      I like these a lot. I know a few charter boat captains who have this reel as their go to for larger fish. That says a lot. - Dennis

    Thanks again Dennis..... while I will never own a lever drag.... I will watch this video a few times... I'm finding it a little complicated!!
    The main thing I have learned from your channel,is HOW and WHY reels work....... the model might not be one I have,but the technique of servicing certain reels helps me re. some of my own reels.
    Please keep them coming,your videos have been a true inspiration...... stay safe and please keep them coming.🎣

      Will do. And never say never. These reels are getting smaller all the time and the technology makes is a great casting reel with minimum moving parts. Dennis

    I actually sent you an Email tonight about a conventional surf casting reel called a Cozzone that I saw on EBay. It said it had a Pflueger Williams Drag in it. It is a beautiful reel with hard rubber side plates. Unbelievable that you had 5 screws that were the same size on a Shimano reel. LOL I just bought a tub of (the big one for me) of Penn grease because some of my non-Mitchell reels need a higher viscosity grease than the SuperLube I use on all my French Mitchells. Wow, four more screws the same - unbelievable. Well it’s coffee time again. LOL. If I used this type of reel I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one of these. It is a fine reel! When I had an Ambassador 7000 C3 conventional reel I think it had four or five of those brakes and the reel came with different sizes of those little brakes. This is another great instructional video for your library.

    Great video, will bookmark as I will use in the future, but need some advice now please, Have just purchased one of these reels, used, 2 yrs old working perfectly. Only thing done was that seller removed handle and included separately to avoid damage during postage. When received I reattached the handle but reel now winds backwards and spool rotates to let line out, fairly smoothly, and winds forwards with difficulty in jumps and starts, nowhere near like normal. I have had and used a number of Shimano TLD reels over many years and they don't wind backwards. Any suggestions appreciated.

      The spool turning backwards has nothing to do with the handle being removed unless they also pushed in the main gear in the process. The spool is stopped with an anti-reverse dog that is not working properly in this reel. You would need to take the reel apart to determine if the dog is broken or simply detached - Dennis

      @@2ndChanceTackle Dennis, some feedback and a lesson. When the handle is removed on this reel, and possibly on all of the TLD style Shimanos, the main gear/shaft can move inwards about 2 mm, allowing the anti-reverse dog to disengage from the ratchet. Mine was fixed in about 10 minutes by a certified Shimano tech as a warranty issue, and he confirmed what a number of other service videos demonstrated - when refitting the drive side plate after reel disassembly, set the ant-reverse ratchet and dog in their correct position, then fit the handle which holds them in position. The lesson, don't remove the handle unless doing a complete disassembly. Thanks for your guidance.

    Thanks again for a great video. For information purposes, As far as level-wind, Lever Drag reels....there is also another reel on the market that I have seen with both of these options. The Okuma Fishing Tackle Solterra SLX-15L Standard Speed Levelwind Lever Drag Reel..... has both the level wind and lever drag systems along with numerous bearings. Cheers!

      great reels, we have a dozen of them on a fishing charter and they last for ever, drag works great, clicker sound is loud, just one weak point, the black plastic piece that holds the screw for the handle is a bit weak, and it breaks some times, no big deal if you caan get spares...
      This video helped me fix one of them where the clicker was not working. Thanks for such a good video!!!!

    I've taken the reel apart several times and meticulously put it back together. But each time I use the lever drag it gets loose and there's very little drag. And each time I pop the top off I find the little spring held pawl has come off it's little post. Any suggestions?

    I don't know why people can't put a wide piece of tape around the spool or take the line off would make easier on you don't think I could ever work on this reel

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  3 роки тому +2

      I can work around it..... Line should be replaced during an annual service, but that's a recommendation, not a requirement
