    Great layout! You hit all the notes in a compact space and used all your budget skills. I went to a train sale/exhibition last weekend and I bought nothing but second-hand bargains. I refuse to pay the exorbitant prices for locomotives and stock these days.

      Model railways can be very therapeutic, especially if you keep them simple. All the best with your recovery and thanks for watching and commenting

    Your little fantasy layout is very convincing. Fantasy, yes, but coherent and with a realistic setting, that makes the difference.
    I really love your industrial backscene, I have already said it. I will experiment with an homemade drawn backscene. Thanks to show us your job on your layout !

      There has to be an element of plausibility to make it work I think. Thanks for your kind comments and support

    Just moved housed and have just started on my own first N gauge layout. The real spark for me was finding that Graham Farish released a really nice GWR N Gauge set, and I love me some Era 3 GWR. My 00 is just sitting in boxes as I just don't have the space for a decent sized layout. I could squeeze in a shunting layout again but much prefer something i can set up and run around.
    Love your work, thanks for the videos!

    Thanks for the video, looking great with the added extras.00 is such a beautiful size but definitely the room is the problem for most of us!!😎🚂🚃🚃🚃🇬🇧

      I've come to the conclusion that OO is great for models but less good for running a model railway

    Hello,even the smallest of things like electric wires makes it more realistic and the platform being fitted.brilliant work so far.

      @BudgetModelRailways if you do that to this layout, wouldn't the wires get in the way?

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  7 місяців тому

      @@PlatformONE I think the comment meant the masts. Correct the wires would get in the way, it's also very fiddley which is why most N gauge layouts don't actually model the wires

    As an aside, where I live in Western Australia some model magazines, and prototype, are available online from our local library.

    Excellent progress! I really like the backdrops. Here in the states, we often refer to switching (shunting) industrial areas in cities as "railroad canyons," as they are bracketed by tall buildings. If you imagine more tall buildings from your perspective at the front of your layout, you have a very realistic railroad canyon.

  • @Maurice00PA
    @Maurice00PA 7 місяців тому +1

    Nice progress! The backdrop looks good. I have been looking for one for my N-scale Inglenook and did not have much luck until I came across the January 2024 issue of Railway Modeler. It includes two photo backscenes. They are both country scenes but that will work for me. Cheers!

    Hey, it's all coming together really nicely. I love N gauge although I have to say that building kits in N can be really fiddly. Some of mine come from Scalescenes which I love but I don't know that my cutting skills are up to being accurate enough😀

    Great video and also what a coincidence! As i am actually building a small Inglenook style layout at present too , also in the past I actually did a real ' Inglenook ' at the spa valley railway, with some shunting with the class 10 deisel - electric shunter.

    Nice progress! I'm not paying close attention here in the US, but from what I'm seeing N is catching up with HO. Partly I think it's due to being able to have more layout in a small space. Although I do think it's also being driven by the ability to have longer and more realistic modern trains in a room or basement layout than you can with HO these days. Me, I'm sticking with Z for now. :)

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  7 місяців тому +1

      Thanks. Yes I think you are right, N has its advantages as we are discovering. I did toy with Z but it's pretty limited in the UK

    That look's great Mike you do make some really nice layouts and film them well.Please do a 'rant video' i enjoy seeing other people's view's on what you have to say.Me i think where it's gone a bit Pete Tong is people now want perfection and detail in their Loco's and rolling stock etc,and of course that comes with a higher price.Still that's for another day !

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  7 місяців тому +1

      I agree fully, it's the perfection at any cost Brigade that have brought this on themselves

    UK N gauge was stymied for years because it lacked detail, didn't shunt or run slowly very well, and was rather expensive compared to 00.

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  7 місяців тому +2

      And it's not much better now lol. Yet Kato can manage it even at the budget end. Had Hornby released a budget N gauge range with good reliable locos it could have been a game changer

    Agree with you that it was dissapointing that the Tri-ang TT wasn't continued.
    I have N, Tri-ang TT and Tri-ang Hornby OO Gauge layouts and prefer the old TT over N scale beasuse it's easier to handle.
    Happy Modelling.

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  7 місяців тому +2

      Thanks. TT is the ideal scale, but I fear the range now is too small and expensive. Sam's trains did a survey and 88% of people were not interested. If Hornby had done N they could have tapped into an existing market

    I think you could have left out the bridge side. Just going through a narrow gap between the buildings in the corner would have worked as well.

    Looking really good but the 4 catenary masts together look odd. Perhaps 2 island masts with supports either side or even a 4 track gantry?
    Just a thought
    ..

  • @southjersey10
    @southjersey10 7 місяців тому +1

    Are the catenary masts from Kato? The layout is really coming along. My version of this layout design will be using Kato track. The main downside is that I’ll be using #6 points which makes the curves much longer in distance. Consequently, I may have a longer length layout than what you have. Oh, this is so much fun 😁

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  7 місяців тому

      Sorry should have said, yes Kato catenary, much cheaper than anyone else's. The Length of the Kato points is an issue but is offset by the reliability and convenience

    One thing is unlike others, you don't go on & on with irreverent stuff, such as unboxing, etc.
    Back to your subject. To be honest, the backscene is okay, where you're going to put the chimneys, is hardly noticeable.

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  7 місяців тому +1

      I did build and exhibit one 009 layout. The new stuff is eye wateringly expensive, and I would be limited to what I can 3d print. As the buildings are still OO you don't get the space advantages of N
