Your 2-car DMU is a Class 110, built by Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Works (BRCW) for the Calder Valley line in West Yorkshire/Lancashire - all were allocated to Hammerton Street Depot in Bradford after 1976, and later Neville Hille Depot in Leeds after 1984 (although the second batch were initially allocated to Netwon Heath in Manchester). They lasted in service from 1963 to 1991, and were refurbished in 1979/80. Two units are preserved - a 2-car unit on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway; and a 3-car unit on the East Lancashire Railway.
Another great budget model railways video.....Mike,I wonder if you realise how much you ‘ give ‘ to this hobby of ours?.....I’ve followed you from the very early days of cardboard base boards, home wood, rattan central ,3D printing, and your own merchandise ,and even your own exhibition!....your models and your videos are some of the best on you tube, and it is small wonder that you now have over 20,000 subscribers....I’m sure you have encouraged a lot of younger modellers because of these.....just want to say, brilliant job, well done and keep up the good work!🚂🚃
i agree with the below comment... that 33 doesn't need a sound chip in sounds awesome already... live your shunting sessions... ( right that's it I'm off too the train room to do a bit of overdue shunting ) ATB Neil from Dunkirk
Great little goods and passenger station - my ideal layout 😍 (My dream would be this with an oval through line and extended branch to a concealed fiddle yard).😊 In the meantime these videos are my virtual train set 😀👍
That uncoupling tool will also work to throw Caboose industries ground throws. I have a skewer with the bent paperclip on one end and the narrowed point on the other for uncoupling knuckle couplers. Cheers!
Ahh BR Blue diesels! My favourite period 🤗 As a child of the 70’s and a train spotter in the 80’s, this is the period I have the fondest memories of. Thanks for sharing 😎👏
Really like this! Further to yesterday's discussion on the Beginner's shunting layout, I think this trackplan is probably better for me and my lad. To get this much into a 4ft board is great! Your channel is really helping this newbie get started. Thanks again!
If you have the width this does give you a lot more shunting potential. You could make it narrower by dispensing with the road down the back if needed. Happy to help, any questions just ask
@@BudgetModelRailways thank you. Well, I have a table in my modelling shed, which is 4ft X 2ft, with space to the side for a fold up fiddle yard. So this would fit perfectly, I think? Have you published a trackplan of this anywhere, so I could work out what track and points I would need to buy? I can probably work it out with the help of a friend, if not.
Sorry no, as I work out track plans as I go along I never draw them, but it should be possible to work it out from the various videos. It was all set track so standard points and single and double straights plus r606 curves.
Mike, I can't multi-task either. When I do my Insta live streams I end up either stumbling over my words or forgetting what I am doing! Anyway another great video from you, so thanks for sharing!
The two car 110 in all-blue first appeared around 1989, but I have the 3-car earlier version in 'refurbished' white/blue livery. The model first appeared in the Hornby 1982 catalogue. It's supposed to evoke the Calder Valley route.
@@BudgetModelRailways I took advantage of the body lengths on my track- noticeably shorter than a trailer from say the Lima 117, the cars of which are about the length of a Mk1 each. The Class 142 cars are better still. There is a 'micro-layouts' book which shows you how to create contermporary-era layouts in a small space.
Get hold of some tough clear plastic packaging. Cut out small strips and tuck each end under the sleepers so it creates a small bump. It should give you some free almost invisible uncouplers
Your right about pickup goods it continued in Ireland until the 70’s and the class 121’s, 141’s/181’s and B class ended their lives as station pilots as did WT class number 4
Nice layout great for messing about i have been following Budget Railways for quite a few years and have your controller and a couple of locos all run of great keep it up.
Hi Mike 😎👋 Another fab running session, always a real treat to watch. I am sorry to hear that you continue to have tooth trouble.. Can be very unpleasant. Hope gets sorted soon 😉👍 Try not to be over critical of yourself whilst filming and running trains, you are doing a great job 😉👍 A great mix of trains and again very enjoyable to watch 😊 Take care, keep yourselves safe & well and I look forward to the next update. Best wishes 😎👍👍
Brilliant as always....... Love the prices you seem to get your rolling stock for..... And you don't need automatic points or magic uncoupling. That Class 33 seems to be just fine, its old its working its noisy Say Hello to Douglas.... hope the studies are going well. p.s. Your filming is just fine the boy is redundant
Another great running session with BR Blue. Loved the DMU. It looks similar to my N gauge Graham Farish Class 108 set. Wish I could have bought mine as cheaply as your OO gauge version. N gauge does seem to be more expensive generally at least here in the states.
could be worth putting a cd motor in the 33 to improve it's running performance - I've done it to a few of my locos and the performance difference is incredible
Yes your right the dmu is a 110 they were nickname ' Calder units ' as they worked alot in that area of the pennines , have been on a few in my British rail days on days out on my free passes ,they were very comfy dmus , think one had been preserved?
Fine dunning session. Dont bother if locos are scale correct or not (comming from me: I run Lenz 0 Scale, exactly the opposit price range!), but your session looks good! Thx for posting!
Nice bit of variety today! True enough about branch traffic, but then there were so many more fright workings. I thankfully see much of it from my driving cab to and from Thameshaven and Ripple Lane on our line, c2c (or historically, LTSR). Indeed, until not long ago, Ripple Lane was but a shadow of its former self and Thameshaven desolate and ripped up after cessation of oil traffic. However, both are now enjoying a renaissance, the former as a now busy junction for domestic traffic to meet the Channel Tunnel Rail Link and the latter due to the new deep-water container terminal. There is also a new terminal on the site of Tilbury Power Station and traffic from the docks is up too, so I am actually spoilt in modern terms!😎 Great to see this wee gem really coming into its own again. Any progress planned for that wee port layout you were doing recently? 👍🤔
Really interesting info. We also now have a quiet local passenger branch at Newhaven, suddenly bursting with frieght due to a new aggregates terminal. Harbour on hold while I build a new micro layout, video out soon
No idea, I doubt they are 5 pole, and in any case depending on their age there are several different motors. The newer ones are really good whatever they are
Usually just a wheel clean and a light oil. Most didn't need anything. Sadly with so much old junk being dumped on ebay during lock down its not so easy now
@@BudgetModelRailways Thank you... This is the one thing that confuses me, although Doug's tutorial on it was really good. No matter how many times it's explained, I seem to forget. Maybe it's the MS, as a lot of things seem to confuse me these days :(
Interesting videos, I have about 7 class 33 and none sound like yours,. I think you have a cog issue or dirty commutator. Have you checked bushes ? Cheers
That Lima diesel needs some gearbox cleaning, they often have horrible casting marks on the gears. If you want true crawl control, convert it to a cd motor and add a dcc decoder with F3 (shunt mode) active for voltage limiting and precision control
Hi Mike, Other great video. I reallly enjoyed it. I do love your running sessions. That Lima 33 sounds fairly realistic so I would leave it alone. The driver of the DMU at the end could be in a bit of bother with management though...

The class 33 sounds a lot like a real diesel. Good video though.
Yup, my first thought was "Class 27". You could probably pay £70 for a DCC sound chip for the same effect.
Nice video, I love to shunt. I have that Lima 33 it is brilliant.

nice work as ever could I ask what's happening with the loft lay out how's it progressing ?
