    Its such a pity we 're not able to see the boy's face when Valentina is demonstrating her passion for expression. From his body language it is clear he is absorbing and enthralled by the experience, as are we. She's a truly inspiring teacher and that's reflected in the boy's enthusiasm. Thanks Valentina.

    Lucky kid! Love her down to earth approach to something many find confusing. My vocal coach was much like Valentina, and I assure you, her teaching method works better then any other, because she makes it fun, and easy to remember.....if only I had the talent to be her student, but alas, at 49, I think I’m too old to fulfill my dreams of being a concert pianist. since I was about to start university (U of T here in Toronto) at the age of 20 (I took a year off to save money) I got sick, very sick, first with Crohn’s disease, then colon cancer...each time I thought I could go back to school, something else happened...and now, 29 years, 33 surgeries, and 5 close calls with death, not to mention the countless side effects of years of chemotherapeutic drugs, radiation, and treatments, giving me osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, PTSD, depression, anxiety, DDD, GERD, hypertension, short bowel disease (I’m left with less then 5% of my entire GI tract), plus many other issues....well.....do you think I could still become a pianist? The arthritis isn’t too bad, it hurts my hands a little, but the passion I have for classical piano has only grown. Please be honest with me for those of you with the knowledge....is it too late to start all over? If not, does anyone know of an affordable means to learn the piano from scratch (I say affordable because 29 years of hospitalization and living on long term disability for the rest of my life hasn’t exactly been a windfall) in the Toronto area? I’ve memorized practically every piece of classical piano, my favourite composers being Mozart, Chopin, Rachmaninov, Debussy, Beethoven, Liszt, Bach, and Brahmas. I never learned how to read music, at least, not treble clef. All throughout school, from grade 3-12, I played the trombone (bass clef only), and sang first bass in several choirs. I auditioned and was accepted to three universities....but thanks to all those years of illness, I’ve lost all memories from my youth, so I’m starting from scratch. I had a natural talent for music since I was a small boy, the only one in the family....probably because I’m adopted. In 2001 I met my biological mother and three half siblings I didn’t know existed, and discovered my maternal grandmother was a concert pianist, who died from a ruptured colon! Ironic I did too when I was 21, was just lucky I was already hospitalized when it happened, so they were able to open me up, start my heart, which stopped for 2 minutes, and save my life (that’s also when they found my first tumours which were growing on the outside of my shattered colon). So now I knew where I got my musical ability and my diseases from! My bio-mom didn’t know too much about my bio-father, he left her after he got her pregnant (what a bastard!), but I discovered that almost everyone in my genetic family made their living from music, going back 10 generation that I’ve been blue to trace so far. Some of my family were apparently quite famous classical pianists in Germany and Austria back in the late 1600’s and up, so I know why I love music so much, it’s in my blood, literally! I’ve had the same dream hundreds of times, of being on stage playing the piano with an orchestra, but back in the late 1700’s or early 1800’s (I’m guessing from the clothes and the feeling I get)....now it all makes sense, but I fear because of my heath and age, it’s too late for me. What do you think? Before getting sick, I was able to play simple pieces like Clair de Lune, Moonlight Sonata 1,2 and 3, and the like, just from playing by ear, funny, the longer I write this, the more I’m convincing myself I’m going to try anyways...if I can’t because of the arthritis, so be it, but I’ve got to try, but as I said, if anyone knows a good teacher I could afford in the Toronto area, PLEASE let me know ASAP...thanks for listening, most times just talking about my experiences helps me cope with it much better then remaining silent. Most call me a troll, but I really don’t care what they call me, I know I’m honest and sincere, I just love to verbalized everything, because believe me, living through what I’ve had to, it’s bloody difficult to deal with!!

    Almost done with this piece! I remember my first thoughts after hearing it for the first time on THIS video: "Holy shit This will be one difficult project!"
    But the entire piece has not been as hard as it seems, and has trained me in many different techniques! My 4 5 finger trills have become much stronger as a result, and ive strengthened the coordination of my left hand SUPERBLY after learning the many different parts of this piece!
    Learn it, and you will come out a much better pianist for it!

    Nothing turns me colder to an interpretation than a programatic overlay onto the piece. With Beethoven, in particular, we need to give primacy to motivic development - after that, we unfold the dramatic dimensions of the work.

    • @JairCrawford
      @JairCrawford 6 років тому +1

      lourak613 For people who are very visually oriented like Valentina, imposing a program onto the music can be one of the best ways to pull expression out of their playing. It’s not for everyone, but there is certainly nothing inherently wrong with it and when working with younger students it works rather well more often than not, as evidenced here.

    Geez fix your intro it says mater class. That and thanks for posting she is so wonderful! I got to be "schooled" by her in a small private setting to moonlight all 3 parts and promo-ing her Rachmaninoff: The Piano Concertos. It was magical. Moonlight part 3: I can't even hit all the wrong notes that fast. :) Thanks again !!!

    Oh. Only can dream of meeting great musicians like Valentina, Lang Lang. What about some accompaniment of same generation Amira Willighagen. It will happen.

    Considering that there were multiple cameras set up, why did we not see the student's face and hands?
