  • Wondering what the cheapest grocery stores are in Norway, what the alcohol law is, or need some tips to make your trip cheaper?
In this video, I’ll be digging deep into the Norwegian grocery stores. I'll show some stores to avoid and some cheaper alternatives you can find here in Norway. All of the different stores have cheaper brands and i will show these. There are a few things to be aware of so you don't get shocked when you check out.
I'll guide you through the stores, such as how to shop for fruits and vegetables, the bread machine, what to do with your bottles, and how to use the self check out system, so you know how it works before shopping,
I've heard many times how shocked people are that we don't have stores open on Sundays, but it has become more common for stores to have a really small area open. But these areas can't be over a certain size so the items there are limited, though I have seen some places that have employees that will fetch what you need from the main store.
I really recommend if you are over the age of 18 that you see the alcohol laws section in this video. This way you won't be shocked when going shopping.
If you are interested in making your trip cheaper I have collected my best tips and tricks in this video as well!
    DISCLAIMER:
    - alcohol opening times can be different from municipalities to municipalities so be aware, the most common change is the opening time that often can be opened from 09.00 instead. Many stores have their opening time displayed by the alcohol.
    - there aren’t a rule applied to the age limit in energy drinks, but many stores have rules in their stores, it varies from 14-18 years age limit. in the self check out you might have an employee confirming that you are buying it.
    - if you use the self check out with alcohol you will have to have an employee confirm.
    - Coop mega is the most expensive when it comes to a larger grocery store, while the smaller Coop Market are a smaller store with higher prices.

Quite a few things that were wrong in this video. Here are the most notable.
1:06 NorgesGruppen doesn't own Bunnpris. They own Kiwi, Nærbutikken, Meny, Spar/Eurospar, Joker, Gigaboks and Jacob's.
Also 2:20, the most expensive Coop store is by far Coop Marked, not Coop Mega. Coop Marked is a store that's placed strategically in places where there is no other store nearby, because of this they can up charge the customers that do live near the store. Coop Mega on the other hand is Coops regular supermarket chain. While it is more expensive than Extra, shopping at Coop Mega would be the equivalent to shopping at Ica in Sweden, Sainsbury's in the UK or Edeka in Germany. (Grocery stores in Norway are quite bad, so if you are from other European countries you might be disappointed due to the lack of selection across the board😕)
7:18 This is not true for everywhere. By law, supermarkets are only allowed to sell alcohol from 08.00-18.00 on weekdays or from 08.00-15.00 on Saturdays. Only municipalities that have applied for an exemption to this law have it till 20.00 on weekdays and till 18.00 on Saturdays. In most municipalities the alcohol sale is from 09.00 in the morning, and in the capital Oslo the alcohol sale in supermarkets is from 09.00-20.00/09.00-18.00.
7.55 This is not true, there is no age limit for energy drinks in Norway. NorgesGruppen stores have a self imposed limit, but in all other stores there is no age limit. There has been a lot of debate whether an age limit should be imposed or not, but this has not yet come to fruition as of march 2024.

Hi Steffen! Thank you for watching my video! ◡̈
yes you are correct, there are a few slips, Bunnprus used to be in NorgesGruppen, but are not anymore.
Coop market is a little like Joker won’t you say? But out of the more large stores mega is quite expensive. Very good point about the comparison of the other countries!
Haha I’ve heard this too, especially that our fruits and vegetables are bad.
It is true about the alcohol law, it change from municipalities to municipalities.
Ah I see, it might give away that I worked at a NorgesGruppen store where we had age limit for energy drinks 😂
Thank you for your informative comment, I will leave a disclaimer in the description!

@@NorwegianRoamerYes, Coop Marked is very much like Joker.
Grocery shopping is in my opinion the worst thing about Norway. People say we have few options in the store due to our small population, but this is so not true.
In Finland they have a hypermarket chain called K-Citymarket, which literally has anything you can imagine a grocery store to have. And Finland has the same population as Norway :(

What does that number means kiwi 7 - 23 , coop prix 8-22

    • @NorwegianRoamer
      @NorwegianRoamer  2 місяці тому +2

It is the opening times so it often looks something like this -
7-23 (21) - 7-23 is from mon to fri and 21 is closing time on Saturday◡̈
But in rema1000 case in this video they have printed 7-23 (mon-fri) and under it say lør 7-23 witch means Saturday.
And they have a Sunday (Søn) open part open which are highlighted in red
