This video "sacrifices" a 12v 100Ah Lifepo4 Battery Sold Under the Name KEPWORTH (viewer discretion is advised 😁
In an effort to demonstrate the overall safety of Lifepo4, I am sacrificing one of my own batteries. I hope this video goes someway to reassure viewers as to the abuse these pouch cells can take.

I never thought that watching a battery video could be so entertaining, Emergency exit and running shoes. Thank you for this video and again for your advice. You have definitely got a life long subscriber.
Aww thanks man, that means a lot to a guy that struggles to even turn a phone on these day lol I'm no Steven Spielberg ha ha
@@DCGUY lol
I just bought the 200ah version and it is working fine. Thank you for your sacrifice, the battery is placed in my sleeping room and i'm relieved that it will not explode. I hope Kepworth sees this and sends you a new one. Underrated channel, keep it up.
Thanks for watching and taking time to comment, your support is Appreciated as are your kind words.
Is the capacity really 200Ah or just 30 Ah? Pls check it....
got a smoke alarm? :)
Thank you dude I really appreciate one more subscriber here
Thanks for watching and taking time to comment 🙏 it's appreciated. Welcome to the channel
Thanks for doing the test, interesting. By the way I am a fire safety expert. Good to see LFP is much safer than nmc.

Great video, 7 more packs left,
The puncture test could be the most violent,
Putting a new pack in a tub of water?
Over charging one?
No idea on any others,
Ya, right, your doing it so I don't have to.
Thanks for watching and taking time to comment 🙏 it's appreciated
Excellent video!! Thank you for sacrificing your own battery like this, it's appreciated. I'd like to see a fully charged cell given a dead short, or a dead short introduced to a few cells in series, to see if they would chain react in some way, or would only the first cell take the hit. Would give an idea what would happen inside a battery if one cell shorted out.
That's a good 💡 idea cheers 🍻
I can feel your fear. Fun to watch 👍
Thanks for watching and taking time to comment 🙏 it's appreciated
They are links to several tests of the LTO, LifePO4 and other Li batteries. Both the LTO and LifePO4 are the safest you will find. No explosion via shorts, overcharged or structural damage. The other types are all explosive.
Sodium will be even safer from what I have read so far.
‘Thermal runaway’ or something along that idea “…. Runaway” is the One thing that keeps my anxiety regarding pouch format. No real idea what it is, or how to ensure that it doesn’t happen; but, the people that bring it up seem fairly well-informed.
Appreciate the vid. Just found your channel (subscribing)
Might be a good idea to wear gloves, face/eye protection for these (Tests)
Anyone bringing up thermal runaway in regards to LiFePO4 is not well informed. Thermal Runaway is near impossible with this chemistry and it creates a fraction of the heat NMC/NCA/LCO create.
The ONLY concern with this chemistry (besides the low IR and massive power) is the electrolyte and the fumes. You DO NOT want to breath those in.
Thanks!
Thanks for watching and taking time to comment. Appreciated
I suppose you could add a spark to the one with water and set fire to the hydrogen that I would think is being produced. It might be interesting in a confined space. An unlikely scenario, much less likely than a hydrogen explosion in a lead acid one that liberally sprays sulphuric acid about the place that everyone forgets about in their rush to decry the ‘dangers’ of lithium while being completely ignorant of the different lithium chemistries.
That's an interesting scenario 🤔 thanks for watching and taking time to comment
The real question is will pouch cells get the same cycle life/have the same degradation pattern as prismatic or cylindrical. And how do they perform at high C ratings.
The pouches do have larger surface area for heat dissipation which is one thing in their favour. Prismatic are thicker, denser and cylinder cells are also better at heat dissipation. Time will show what's better or worse.
That first cell has a sticker showing it tested for 49.9Ah...not good. Prismatic Grade A's test 2-5% over rated. Cylindricals typically test over rated as well. Two 100Ah batteries I tested came out at 105Ah with pouch cells....Makes me wonder if KEPWORTH is using used cells or Grade B
And please tell me you didnt breathe in those fumes....
No, I didn't breathe the fumes. At the price they must be grade B. But reality is we will never know, they could have been used previously in larger packs for electric buses.
My Kepworth,24V/100Ah/ fuse 100A?
Smoking BMS. Warranty? Do not expect
Sorry to hear that, you can but try to claim on warranty. Hope it works out for you
does anyone have an idea why lifepo4 pouch is not popular vs prismatic?
Thanks for watching and taking time to comment 🙏 it's appreciated. Pouch cells are probably more popular than you may think. Laptops, phones, even buses have used Pouch cells but because they were getting easily damaged, especially during transit the car industry wanted better protection, so the prismatic cells you see now all stem from that. Same chemistry wearing different coats.
Lithium tea?
🤣🤣
Mine exploded when punctured through one of its terminals so don't sing víctory.
Can you elaborate? Did it combust? Curious about your experience 🤔
