In End of Evangelion, Third Impact is scored with Komm Susser Tod, a song about Shinji giving up and dying, for he has disappointed everyone around him beyond redemption. He wishes for nothing more than to escape and let everything fade into nothingness, which is reflected by the song. In Evangelion 2.0, Near Third Impact is scored with Tsubasa wo Kudasai, a hopeful but bittersweet song about wanting "wings" to fly free. One lyric literally translates to "Spread my wings and fly towards the free sky without any sadness." This reflects Shinji's mindset during this Impact. He wants nothing more but to be happy, and to save Rei. He is hoping for a better, peaceful life for himself, and he doesn't care about the apocalypse or the Evas or anything like that. He just wants to be happy, and be free. However in Shin Evangelion, they play Voyager over Additional Impact, the first time an Impact has ever been used to FIX the world rather than doom it, and fittingly it's a happy song. It's a song where, although you are saying goodbye to someone, you are telling them how lucky you were to love them. Shinji is happy, and although it's bittersweet leaving everyone, he is so grateful for meeting the people he did, and spending time with them. It's a peaceful, hopeful sendoff, which fits with the final Impact. Everyone finally gets a chance to be happy, and move on, even if it means leaving those they met behind.

Honestly, this song, in my opinion, is a response to the song "Komm Susser Todd" and it fits perfectly. The latter was a lament about failure and allowing the world to burn out of hatred and self-loathing. Shinji was just a scared boy living in a world that was far bigger than he was. He was used like a pawn in a game that he had no control over. Or so he thought. In this new movie, he realized exactly what he could if he had the willpower to do it. He grew up so much in this final movie. Just like the ending to the original Shin Evangelion anime, he knew that he could not live for himself, so he wanted to live for others. Crying gives one self relief, but not for others. So he didn't cry anymore. He knew he could not fight his father, so he decided to talk to him instead after spending year hating him. At last, after so much pain and heartache, he and his father understood each other. After everything was said and done, he was willing to sacrifice himself so that others could live on and be happy without him, but the same woman that Gendo was willing to burn the world to reunite with was always there for Shinji and he never knew until the end. His mother gave him the chance that his father couldn't. Perhaps that was her plan in the end. In the manga, she once said that anywhere Shinji could go would be paradise. And thus, he went home after casting his wish to erase the Evangelions from existence and created a paradise for not only himself, but his friends as well. This song is a mirror reflection to Komm Susser Todd and it shows what Shinji could be if he let go of his fear, his hatred, and his anger. He was a child soldier in a war he did not fully understand. But now he is so much more than that. He is free. And happy. What got me is the moment that it shows people holding their dog and then a lady holding her cat...I mean the scene is beautiful, but it also makes me think of how me and my animals going to die some day. I am happy that our moment together existed and the chance to love them, but I'll miss them, I'll miss everyone I love, even if I dont exist anymore, even if only a particle of me remains, it miss my wife and my cats. This song feels like the antithesis to KOMM, SUSSER TOD, especially in those rising/falling strings reminiscent to that song. It's so weirdly optimistic to me.
This song was used way back in "Sayonara, Jupiter"; the first film Shinji Higuchi worked on. Before 3.0+1.0, Anno had been in a creative and emotional rut thanks to Evangelion again -- but Higuchi got him on board with Shin Godzilla, which helped Anno regain the energy to finish Evangelion once and for all. This is basically Anno telling him, his best friend and longest-time collaborator, "thank you."
The only anime ending that make you thing. "The weeb part of my life is fulfilled, I'm satisfied. Now let's go back to reality. Thanks myself, all these wasted times watching countless anime, in the end, it was a actually precious moment of mine. Sayonara...."
As a young man entering his adulthood, this song just resonates a lot of things. Love, loss, sadness, happiness, it captures almost my everything. I guess that's the beauty of life. Thank you Hideaki Anno for such amazing experiences.

Just saw the movie for the first time, what an ending! Sayonara Evangelion- I’m giving the franchise a salute of rememberance just before I post this comment
I was only in grade 8 when I started watching NGE. Now I’m 27 and the Evangelion has finally come to an end. It just feels like a part of my childhood has ended, but damn what an amazing ending to the series! Thank you for amazing memories Evangelion!
Huge shoutout to those(cool people) who watched Sayonara Jupiter and got the reference when this plays. Honestly really cool that anno got megumi hayashibara to do a cover of a forgotten toho sci fi movie that his buddy, shinji higuchi worked on and got rejected by his girlfriend.
This is probably the best ending in any media that I've watched. The protagonist in all of the Evangelion series, Shinji, after all the pain and suffering, has found true happiness, at last. And he finally restored the world in its initial phase, except that now everyone is also happy. Sayonara, subete no Evangelion.
Just watched 3.0 + 1.0 yesterday, and I have to say, this series has been one of my favorites for so long, and it's both happy and sad to see it draw to a close. I don't think I'd rather have it any other way. The rebuilds certainly weren't perfect movies, but I love them anyways. Goodbye Evangelion, and thank you Hideaki Anno
This is how you end a serie very greatly, so many reference to the previous titles, so many winks to the fans, those who basicaly grew and got older with this serie. Living the wait for this movie is a chance.
I think EOE is better overall, but the ending to this movie, from Gendo finally opening up to Shinji to the end, is some of the best if not the best Eva of all time. I wasn’t expecting the ending to be as perfect as it was. Goodbye Evangelion.
EoE is a better movie but this is a better ending to the whole series overall. I don't feel these movies have as much impact without first watching the anike and EoE
Nothing will beat EoE, but this is sooooo earned as a capstone for Anno with his greatest creation, and as a cathartic end and promise to everyone who so heavily identified with Shinji: you’re going to make it.
As someone who digested the original series, End of Evangelion, and the Rebuild in a span of just over 2 weeks, I, well, I really wish had more words. I don't think I can express in words the storms and floods and rivers of emotions I feel. I hear people argue non-stop about the meaning of it all, but I interpreted it in my own way, and that interpretation I think will stick with me forever. And, one last thing. Seeing Shinji happy made me cry the happiest tears I have ever had. Thank you Evangelion, and I urge every one of you reading this: Take care of yourself.
I never realised how good the full poster is..... Every couple in the series is standing side by side. Shinji and Mari are together Gendo and Yui are together Toji and the Hikari are together Kaji and misato are together Rei and kawaro are not really that close but they are close enough. Which means they do have a connection, we even see them in the ending and kawaro was smiling. Where as characters like Asuka, fuyutsuki,Kenchi, ritsuko are standing all alone in the full poster.
and Asuka is on the far left, while kensuke was on the far right, which would make them together if it was folded and it shows their relationship they had in asuka's memory in the anti-dimension, might be too far a stretch tho
I feel like this song is a continuation of Komm Susser Todd, or more like a reply to it. While that song described suicide and depression, Voyager talks about how they wished they never took away thier life for they loved them. They wanted to give them more love, they wanted to talk to them more,be with them more, grow with them more. This song is the aftermath. The effects of a love one taking their future away and the people they left behind mourning who also understood the pain. They wished that together they could have carried and solved those burdens together. To those who are down right, those who see life as a huge struggle and are in pain, I have been there. I almost left this world four days before this film came out. I thought I was alone until a single soul saved me from my unenviable mistake. Along that aftermath, Ithought I was alone till I expressed what I was feeling and many others stood by me and helped me. Some felt the same and I never knew. Together, I am getting by bit by bit. Of course, life is hard. Its like a roller coaster that never ends. It can be scary on what lies a ahead but you don’t have to go through it alone. You don’t have to carry the pain alone. Please, you aren’t weak if you talk somebody. It makes you stronger. It is strong of you to have told someone about your pain. That took courage so you are not weak. Don’t walk alone, walk with another to help and aid you along. One step at a time. Life will turn. Its up to us to set it right and control it but you never have to do it alone. I believe in you. A total stranger but who cares for your life more than you’ll ever know. We can walk together and it will be okay. Your life matters more than you’ll ever know. Please, let me love you till the day I die. live not just for me or your loved ones but also yourself. There are many more people waiting to meet you and many new things to do and places to see. Take care, my friend. I will be here, getting old and hope we will get old together :))
Anyone else hear Fly Me To The Moon in the harmonica? At first I could only hear “let me see what spring is like” and I thought it was too insubstantial to be intended, but then I sang along and I *swear* it harmonizes.
It has been a long time since an anime film has been made so well and with so much budget and artistic creativity. We haven't seen anything like this since the 80's, 90's. Nowadays anime has more flaws in creativity and artistic daring, which makes that some works can't become cult as they should. And it's a very good choice to put a song like this as Final Ending.
Bye-bye all of Evangelion. I believe maybe if I try , I can also face, what I have always been running away from, myself, my family, friends, life, goals and my present. when this song came on,i really cried a lot...
Even if I was already crying in this sequence, when I saw a hand stopping the new Spear reaching Shinji, those simple couple of frames devastated me.
When one last kiss hit it was like a bullet to my feelings and cried I didn't think it hit me so hard. And I didn't think that song would play at the end for some reason.
I was largely very confused but also very happy for the characters finally finding happiness and for Shinji growing up. That's what I've always cared about the most in Eva, the characters. Them finally being mentally sane and happy really feels like a proper ending and goodbye to all of Evangelion.
@@pavelestrada7988 same here, I finished off two beers and began to finishing off the bourbon. And as soon as I saw the scene with Yui and Shinji, I could no longer hold on.
me too, for Gendou
It's a ture love story
When i hear this song i cant stop crying because of my favorite series is coming to an end
Dont be sad because its ending, be happy that ot happened 😁
we really proud of shinji with this satisfied ending at least be happy we actually stay with this series till the end, sayonara evangalion.
Its probably for the best. At least we know Eva will never end up like Star Wars. For that I am eternally thankful.
i need a fucking spin-off of the ending
@@n-crab9196 it’ll probably come in the form of a manga, Eva has a millions spin off mangas so one more seems likely
I had high hopes for 3.0+1.0 and I gotta admit, I am fully satisfied. This has to be the best way the rebuilds and all of evangelion could have ended. Closure finally, after so many years.
This is for the people that didn't make it, we did it friends. To the end.
I lost a friend in 2019 that I think he'll loved Evangelion 3.0+1.0
@@KoeSeer damn bro I'm sorry
bro ... , yeah for those people that didn't make it :")
I'm not even that big of Evangelion fan but it made me so happy to see Shinji grow up and become a better and stronger person.
same
Yeah bro causing 3 disasters was growth. Totally XD
@@AryanSingh-vw7ry I think you forgot to finish the movie =)
I'm the exact same way. I 'm not too big on EVA, but this was literally the best send off to a series I've seen so far.
When gendo huged shinji that part made me cry so hard
that made me cry
The scene of all the souls falling from the sky in white and with peace on their faces for some reason filled me with joy
Life is beautiful, but it's not fair that everyone has to go away. Death is something terrible...I hope we beat death someday...simply dying shouldn't be our fate. This actually makes me angry and realize there is no god or anything...I wish god existed because then I would be sure that death is not the end.
@@aleeeisonfire you completely missed the point of this song and series if you consider death would make your life pointless.
Death is the reason life has a meaning.
@@hamdal3282 You are using a cliché saying created to only convince ourselves that mortality is a good thing, because we don't know any other way. How do you know life was no meaning without death? Nobody never lived forever, and I guarantee that there is a LOT of meaning in an eternal life.
Think for yourself rather than repeat these same old sayings that makes no sense.
@@aleeeisonfire lmao you sounds like an anime villain. Eternal life for mortal being would only bring destruction to the world man, imagine nobody died and people keep reproducing.
@@aleeeisonfire and aside from that, immortality would make life meaningless, it's like having an infinite deadline for a job.
Why bother doing it today? You literally can do it anytime you want. That's so stupid you'd end up doing nothing because you're already deep in having the comfort of having infinite deadline.
We didn't get a proper finale for Berserk (RIP, Miura), but our boy Hideaki Anno did deliver the goods with finesse and unmatchable mastery!
2021 is basically my year to say goodbye to my childhood anime franchise.
Goodbye, Digimon and Evangelion.
This post didn't age well
This song feels like the antithesis to KOMM, SUSSER TOD, especially in those rising/falling strings reminiscent to that song. It's so weirdly optimistic to me.
3.0+1.0 OST, aka "Songs to play whilst you erase mechas from reality."
Through thick and this across the years, beginning to end. Farewell Neon Genesis. Farewell, Evangelion.
The only anime ending that make you thing.
"The weeb part of my life is fulfilled, I'm satisfied. Now let's go back to reality. Thanks myself, all these wasted times watching countless anime, in the end, it was a actually precious moment of mine. Sayonara...."
so real
this film squeezed out so many tears from me...

I felt the same. Having a little shared motif (even if it's just a coincidence) really helps to reflect how much better things turned out this time.
I was thinking the exact same thing when I heard it
Oh absolutely.
OH WOW excellent catch
also 3:17 reminded me of Expansion of Blockade
I love how they make a 3 different ending of Evangelion 90s,manga and rebuild

I cried like 30 times with this song, I don't know why it makes me so sentimental, it reminds me of all the sad moments in the series. I think it's a good ending for something that has lasted for so long. I think that makes me cry:,)
the one happy "ending" song the series gets is the one that brings me closest to tears
3:14 the tribute to Fly Me To the Moon.. Sagisu-San thank you too. Anno Sensei, i'm very happy for you.
Goodbye to all Evangelions. Beautiful Movie!!
Goodbye Evangelion. Thank you for helping shape the person I am today, I'll follow your advice till the end. I'll be kind to myself, I'll go outside and socialize, I'll be kind to others, I'll be the best person I can. Thank you.

THIS IS HOW YOU SING A GOODBYE! THANK YOU EVERYONE WHO INVOLVED IN EVA
Trully Conguratulations Shinji
and Goodbye to all Evangelion
Just saw the movie for the first time, what an ending! Sayonara Evangelion- I’m giving the franchise a salute of rememberance just before I post this comment
hearing this in imax was different
Megumi Hayashibara’s voice is so soothingg
this is a masterpiece it's just like end of evangelion but opposite of komm süsser todd
All of those Evas getting destroyed was satisfying to see for some reason.
I was only in grade 8 when I started watching NGE. Now I’m 27 and the Evangelion has finally come to an end. It just feels like a part of my childhood has ended, but damn what an amazing ending to the series! Thank you for amazing memories Evangelion!
13 years and evangelion
congratulations

Such a good song, loved when this started playing. Hit me hard
Goodbye, All of Evangelion.
Probably my new favorite EVA track
This makes me feel like I'm back in my mother's womb, where everything is just warm and peaceful...
Goodbye, my youth
Goodbye, All of Evangelion
In case anybody wants to know, it's Megumi Hayashibara who sings this (Pen-Pen's voice actress)
also yui and mana's voice actor
And Rei Ayanami's too.
And Eva Unit 1, pretty sure everyone knows it by this point.
Thank you! I had been listening to the original track these days (there was a reference in a book) but this version has that impact feeling to it
Just watched 3.0 + 1.0 yesterday, and I have to say, this series has been one of my favorites for so long, and it's both happy and sad to see it draw to a close. I don't think I'd rather have it any other way. The rebuilds certainly weren't perfect movies, but I love them anyways. Goodbye Evangelion, and thank you Hideaki Anno
It is over, i am sad that it ended. Happy that it existed.
my man shinji is finally happy
I heard this and was like, "Holy shit, it's Bye Bye Jupiter!!"
This makes me happy and lonely in the same time
Thank you Hideaki Anno , Bye-Bye to all Evangelion....it's been a long wild ride, i'm gonna miss it
Addio a tutti gli Evangelion :,)
I cry tears of joy every time beat drop
I think as evangelion fans we must cheer up each other
Thanks for posting this Amazing ost
Bye bye to all Evangelion :')
As much as I love Komm Susser Tod, this song is the anti Komm Susser Tod and gave me closure.
Goodbye to all Evangelion
What's better about EOE?
@HateHate best scene of evangelion
@@vojtechjilovec indeed
Nothing will beat EoE, but this is sooooo earned as a capstone for Anno with his greatest creation, and as a cathartic end and promise to everyone who so heavily identified with Shinji: you’re going to make it.
That Harmonica solo towards the end is gorgeous :)
Thank you Evangelion, and I urge every one of you reading this:
Take care of yourself.
Man i came back after every evangelion frame in order page finished all their episode
Me tooo
@@mandolen3317 i hope that the page would start over again from eps 1 nge. A neon genesis
I never realised how good the full poster is.....
Every couple in the series is standing side by side.
Shinji and Mari are together
Gendo and Yui are together
Toji and the Hikari are together
Kaji and misato are together
Rei and kawaro are not really that close but they are close enough.
@@UnoTamago
All COUPLES are together, but asuka and kensuke are way far away from each other, this could mean they are everything but a couple.
I will be here, getting old and hope we will get old together :))
it's so nice to see our boy smile.

Beautiful song, makes me cry tears of happiness.
Fun fact: Voyager was also used in Toho's 1984 movie Bye-Bye Jupiter
This song makes me so happy. You did good Final Evangelion!
Anyone else hear Fly Me To The Moon in the harmonica? At first I could only hear “let me see what spring is like” and I thought it was too insubstantial to be intended, but then I sang along and I *swear* it harmonizes.
It was definitely intentional, little homage to the original series.
1:58 "bye bye, all of evangelions"

It has been a long time since an anime film has been made so well and with so much budget and artistic creativity.
We haven't seen anything like this since the 80's, 90's.
Nowadays anime has more flaws in creativity and artistic daring, which makes that some works can't become cult as they should.
And it's a very good choice to put a song like this as Final Ending.
i love evangelion shinji is my fav. character and im still a kid
Same, including the kid part
Be honest, this isn't the first time you are here.
You dont know when you will be deserved in your place, but you always know how to be deserved in that place & all places you go.
Bye-bye all of Evangelion. I believe maybe if I try , I can also face, what I have always been running away from, myself, my family, friends, life, goals and my present. If Shinji can do it, then maybe I can also be confident one day. I know it will not happen in a day or a week or a month but slowly everything will change.
Thank you Evangelion.
I’m gonna add this to the “songs that make you cry from happiness”. Goodbye all of Evangelion
Your mission is completed, return to base..
In the end, Shinji's Mother and father carry the burden for fixing the world.
