I got mine today. He was surprisingly heavy! He looks spectacular. Fanstoys gets how a masterpiece should look. Of the figures I own, definitely one of my favorites. Looking at all the figures Fanstoys is releasing this year, 2017 will be the greatest year for collecting masterpieces ever.
The more I watch this videos the more I love and respect Fans Toys Transformers. This "Galvatron" is very good, another TF I must buy even though atm I will have to pay more then I wanted for him. Thanks for the review.

This is why 3rd Party is needed. If you're an MP collector, you may be waiting 20+ years before Takara ever gets your favorite character out. Thank God for KFC (MP Blaster), Fanstoys (Galvatron, Cyclonus, Blurr, Springer, Arcee), etc. The day 3rd Party gets shut down would be a sad day for Transformers indeed (not saying that that's ever going to happen; just talking hypothetical worst case scenarios).
Had this guy for awhile. Transformed him once out of the box and just couldn’t get a few things to line up. Transformed him back to robot and there he sat for months. Finally decided to try it again with the help of your video and it just decided to work out for me. Thanks for posting. Made a figure I wasn’t really happy with in alt mode a lot better for me. Greatly appreciated !! Now to get him back in robot mode just displays way better.
I've been after this one since I first started collecting Third Party TF figures, the after market price for this figure is a bit high so I was waiting for one closer to retail price. Yesterday BBTS had new preorders on the Third Party list so I went looking for new figures, during a page refresh when I was looking at FansToys the FT-16M suddenly showed up as in stock and I bought it immediately. It was categorized as substandard which means the box may be damaged but it's wasn't my first item with that categorization bought on BBTS and normally the boxes aren't that bad.
I got the M while I lived in Hong Kong...just went in (for my money) the best 3rd party shop there, not expecting much because he has some keen customers...and a few of them were sat on the shelf. Instantly bought it, one of my favourites. 👌

Pretty happy with it. I don't think space cannon/transformation is as nice as Tyrant, but the bot is so superior it's out of the realm of subjectivity.
Finally got mine today, photos and reviews do not do this thing justice! I'm simply amazed Fanstoys has out done themselves. Setting the bar high for 2017 right out of the gate.
I love it - basically the Galvatron i've waited for since seeing the movie when I was 7. I was over the moon when that first Armada Unicron came out, and almost as excited now after getting this guy, Eligos and Andras in the past 2 months :D :D :D
Been drooling for this figure since it first showed in prototype. Had tyrant for a while but finally, finally have one of these guys of my very own. And it's everything they said it was. Now I NEED their cyclones and scourge!
The reason for the extra bicep swivel is it also allows you to hide the tank tread piece from view by always being able to rotate it to the back of the arm where it's less visible regardless of how you turn the arm.
This is Galvatron for me, he's just so totally evocative of the character in every way (long fingers aside). Just stunning, and this metallic paint they are using is phenomenal. I want their scourge and cyclonus now that they teased way back done like this. But more than that, its made me realise just how badly I need a G1 Rodimus done to this level, c'mon FT, you know you want to. Great vid, thanks Bobby.
Lupus still hasn't grown on you, lol? It's flawed but I just can't put it down. Then again, I think you one with a bad cockpit if I remember correctly, which is understandable.
Hey Bobby, great review! Is he in anyway top/back heavy? In Peaugh's production sample review, I noticed that when he placed him down standing straight, the minute he lets go of it, I thought I saw Sovereign rocked a bit to the back. He's not falling over or anything but there was still a visible 'rocking'. Does it happen on yours?
i cant speak for the test show, the feet help the rocking from happening but you have to take a second and sort it. i go over that at the end of the articulation bit, for more details :)

As Feb 2019, i looked back at this review and this figure cause i own it, and his shelf presence is still insane. A long side FT cyclonus, they are the best looking figures FT has produced this far.
sorry to comment on a vid from two months ago, but as you know, I watch your reviews as research material. That being said, I have 2 questions, 1. if etailers are sold out, will there be a re release? I went to 215 and they were out. and two, how do you think the transforming playability will hold up over time as far as lose panels/fiddly bits and components? I think I'm going to pull the trigger on this very soon and just want to be as well informed as I can.

Gr8 review Bobby B. For me personally I wonder how this would've looked if t was a Matte purple instead of the glossy purple I see. Would like to own this in my collection but my resolution is try and save money and stop stuff especially when im intoxicated lol. Btw you drink beer thru your nose.?
Excellent / Detailed review. My action hit on Friday and I am impressed. No need to look elsewhere for a Masterpiece Galvatron. I agree 100% would have gone a long way to have a couple of heal spurs / kickstands for dynamic posing. The feet work and are fine but would have been a nice touch. Also agree I like energy blasts but not when so many companies fail at recognizing the blast shoots the ground because the arm doesn't support...............how is this overlooked? Love the stand and very happy makes up for Weirdwolf and now seeing Fans Toys Galvatron next to Xtransbots Cylconus..........makes for much anticipation for Fans Toys Cyclonus LOL
bobby would you recommend him if you hated his alt mode? i plan on transforming him just once and display or tinker with him in bot mode forever. is he worth it for the price if i just want him in bot mode?
This is my favorite review youve done. Sovereign, for my money, is probably the best Trsnsformer made. Third party or official. And the price point, for what you get, is incredible. If this exact piece had a Decepticon emblem and was released by Takara, this would be a $250-275 figure easy. I think this is the figure all Transformer figures shoukd be judged by.
Yeah first thing I noticed when I took this out of the packaging is the sheer weight of it. This thing is way heavier than Quakewave they did a few years back. I actually took apart the rachet joints in the knee just to see the material. Almost lego grade for the actual joints. Top notch stuff!

The Matrix is absolutely necessary. Because with this Unicron my master I'll make you my slave LOL!!! Great review and I love the look of this figure. However here's the million dollar question. I can only afford one 3rd party Galvatron. Would you say that this one is the best overall or should I grab one of the others? Thanks for your help and keep up the great work...
Great review, dude! Man, this figure looks freakin' awesome in both mode to me! It has a huge amount of moving parts though, but as with Megatron, the nature of this character sort of demands it to be able to look right. If it didn't have this level of complex engineering, they would probably have to sacrifice the esthetics on one or both of the modes. Overall I thing they hit the spot on this figure. Can't complain about much to be honest. Its those damn articulated hands though... I think they could have made the hands a little smaller if it wasn't for the engineering required to be able to have individually articulated fingers. I know some people don't mind them, but to me its just more fragile pieces to be consern with in my opinion. Personally I will pass on this one, as I do with all 3rd party figures, as I highly suspect that a official figure will be available down the line, and I don't need placeholders because thats just a waste of money to me. But judging by the look of this one and this review, I'd say that this is a pretty damn good option if the wait for a official one gets too long. At the end of the day it all comes down to personal taste and having options is always great!

This is absolutely superb. A shame I don't collect MPs, because this is a thing of beauty. I'd kinda like to see Maketoys have a stab at him, if only because I adore Maketoys' more stylized proportions, but this might be the best Galvatron we ever get.

I've seen a few people criticise the tracks being on the backs of the arms ( not that you did too much) but it's both G1 toy and cartoon accurate. Good review overall and I love this figure.

Mine arrived today and yeah he is pretty much amazing. The flipper hands must be trending (bad cube speed bump and lorry) lol. Dolphin syndrome... Hey as a side note X tranzbotz Cyclonus is pretty good. They fixed the shoulder "wing attachments" not perfect but he does look the part. Is there something better in the pipeline for a Cyclonus option?

This is FT at their best - IMO. A real collection centerpiece (I"m a Galvatron fan so I'm biased). Their best and early leader in the clubhouse for Figure of the Year. If I get five figures this year that match or beat this one, I'll be a happy collector.

If your happy with it, I am happy for you. I may get it if I have the chance later but it isn't at the top of my list. That being said, I am super excited to see that he comes with a flight stand! Cause I know someone is going to sell it, and I can finally replace the one that broke for my Soar.

great objective review as always. u did kinda ruin the hands and feet for me there 😀. altmode won't be used much I think, so the sacrifices seem legit. tbh, the only reason I won't get this, is cos then I would have to get cyclonus, ultra magnus, radius and the scourge aswell😂. are you planning on doing fanstoys phoenix and terminus gigantus? 😎✌ ps: I always "like", but I skip transformations, is that a problem for the way youtube acknowledges views nowadays?
Great review Bobby as always. Great figure. Just a heads up, the effects piece actually comes apart so you can make it smaller and lighter. It just pops together.
This is one of my favorite figures I own. But the unexpected thing is how much better I like FT-16M paired with FT-29 and FT-16 with FT-29T. I was really expecting the repaint of Quietus to pair better with the newer repaint of Sovereign, but my preference is to switch them.
I think he's great. I'd like him to be the toy version rather than the film/toon version, as that's what he was coloured as in the G1 comics, but if FT make a toy version I'd be all over it as well. I don't usually buy colour variants, but for this guy I'll make an exception. Just with the chain was longer so you can do the "You will do my bidding, or taste my wrath!" pose from the movie.
dude I was waiting for you to do the iconic scene with mp starscream and his Cape... this galvy would be perfect for that in cannon mode. heres a hint!
I sold mine last year at a profit. Still kinda regret it though. I just didn't have any space to display him where I live right now. Maybe one day I'll buy him again, or maybe Takara blows this out of the water one day, which they are totally capable of doing...minus the die-cast of course.
I feel ya on the filler figures. There is just so much product out now (which is great) that the wallet is on life support trying to keep up. Just don't have the disposable income to make bad decisions anymore. This coming from a guy who collect's multiple lines and has a healthy collecting budget. It's Galvatron,Takara will get to him eventually. I love FT's,I have almost all of their figures up to this point. I think Sovereign looks great....but I gotta save the denero's for other things at this point and wait it out. Two years ago I would have pulled the trigger instantly.
My very first MP purchase. When I got him and opened the styrofoam and he appeared before my eyes for the first time in person, I said with the deepest voice possible, “BEHOLD..... GALVATRON!!!”
Just transformed it to canon mode. It's pretty good. I do think they should have had a light gimmick. Quake wave and the Dibots got them. This character needs one. Hopefully they will add that feature in a some other future release.

The definitive galvatron for me though to be fair his alternate space cannon mode is less streamlined than tyrant but well some sacrfices is to be expected I guess
How can Galvatron see what he’s aiming for with those huge shoulders in the way? Guess that’s how Rodimus managed to beat ole Galvy, no peripheral vision! ;)
I hope you'd see the light and come to appreciate articulating fingers :) To me they add a lot more character and expression to a figure, I truly love them especially when the finger base is on a ball joint! A good example would be KFC's Ultra Magnus MP-22 hand upgrade. The figure as a whole is not the mode posable, but the hand upgrades allow you to "express" your pose more if that makes sense.
Great review. The feet and hands definitely do not make this a dealbreaker for me. although those hands look like he wants to pet all the animals at the pet store. That blast effect may be curved for movie accuracy. When he said to cybertron and used it as a thruster to fly onto his ship. Or it might just be an individual results may vary.
The hand size is good because you can actually hold or pick up smaller bots. If the hands were smaller, it wouldn't be very functional. The proportion/size isn't so far off to be very noticeable, especially if his hands are doing something or holding something rather than held up right next to his face :)

Great review, you hit the nail in the head in regards to FansToys Sovereign, what an amazing figure, I'm getting mine tomorrow but honestly, any Masterpiece Scale version of Galvatron that you get, you are doing good, this is a good time to be a collector, many good options available and just you said it in H U N G R Y, "...at the end of the day If you like it you win"

IMO, the Perceptor face is better/more show accurate than Tesla's original face. So a definite plus.

1) I would imagine but it may take some time. 2) its really impossible to say but I will say that I don't have that fear

Excellent / Detailed review. My action hit on Friday and I am impressed. No need to look elsewhere for a Masterpiece Galvatron. I agree 100% would have gone a long way to have a couple of heal spurs / kickstands for dynamic posing. The feet work and are fine but would have been a nice touch. Also agree I like energy blasts but not when so many companies fail at recognizing the blast shoots the ground because the arm doesn't support...............how is this overlooked? Love the stand and very happy makes up for Weirdwolf and now seeing Fans Toys Galvatron next to Xtransbots Cylconus..........makes for much anticipation for Fans Toys Cyclonus LOL

This is my favorite review youve done. Sovereign, for my money, is probably the best Trsnsformer made. Third party or official. And the price point, for what you get, is incredible. If this exact piece had a Decepticon emblem and was released by Takara, this would be a $250-275 figure easy. I think this is the figure all Transformer figures shoukd be judged by.
I agree, I think the only ones that might give it a real run for it's money are the Giga Power Dinobots.
Yeah first thing I noticed when I took this out of the packaging is the sheer weight of it. This thing is way heavier than Quakewave they did a few years back. I actually took apart the rachet joints in the knee just to see the material. Almost lego grade for the actual joints. Top notch stuff!

I'm absolutely in love with this figure, one of the best purchases made. How do you feel in comparison with DX9 Tyrant ? (i don't have him, just curious).
Zeev Goshen this is superior in most ways but I do find both their engineering choices to be about equal in terms of uniqueness and level of interesting choices

I can only afford one 3rd party Galvatron. Would you say that this one is the best overall or should I grab one of the others? Thanks for your help and keep up the great work...

Great review, dude! Man, this figure looks freakin' awesome in both mode to me! It has a huge amount of moving parts though, but as with Megatron, the nature of this character sort of demands it to be able to look right. If it didn't have this level of complex engineering, they would probably have to sacrifice the esthetics on one or both of the modes. Overall I thing they hit the spot on this figure. Can't complain about much to be honest. Its those damn articulated hands though... I think they could have made the hands a little smaller if it wasn't for the engineering required to be able to have individually articulated fingers. I know some people don't mind them, but to me its just more fragile pieces to be consern with in my opinion. Personally I will pass on this one, as I do with all 3rd party figures, as I highly suspect that a official figure will be available down the line, and I don't need placeholders because thats just a waste of money to me. But judging by the look of this one and this review, I'd say that this is a pretty damn good option if the wait for a official one gets too long. At the end of the day it all comes down to personal taste and having options is always great!

This is absolutely superb. A shame I don't collect MPs, because this is a thing of beauty. I'd kinda like to see Maketoys have a stab at him, if only because I adore Maketoys' more stylized proportions, but this might be the best Galvatron we ever get.

I've seen a few people criticise the tracks being on the backs of the arms ( not that you did too much) but it's both G1 toy and cartoon accurate.

Hey as a side note X tranzbotz Cyclonus is pretty good. They fixed the shoulder "wing attachments" not perfect but he does look the part. Is there something better in the pipeline for a Cyclonus option?

This is FT at their best - IMO. A real collection centerpiece (I"m a Galvatron fan so I'm biased). Their best and early leader in the clubhouse for Figure of the Year. If I get five figures this year that match or beat this one, I'll be a happy collector.

This is one of my favorite figures I own. But the unexpected thing is how much better I like FT-16M paired with FT-29 and FT-16 with FT-29T. I was really expecting the repaint of Quietus to pair better with the newer repaint of Sovereign, but my preference is to switch them.
I think he's great. I'd like him to be the toy version rather than the film/toon version, as that's what he was coloured as in the G1 comics, but if FT make a toy version I'd be all over it as well. I don't usually buy colour variants, but for this guy I'll make an exception.
Just with the chain was longer so you can do the "You will do my bidding, or taste my wrath!" pose from the movie.

I sold mine last year at a profit. Still kinda regret it though. I just didn't have any space to display him where I live right now. Maybe one day I'll buy him again, or maybe Takara blows this out of the water one day, which they are totally capable of doing...minus the die-cast of course.

I feel ya on the filler figures. There is just so much product out now (which is great) that the wallet is on life support trying to keep up. Just don't have the disposable income to make bad decisions anymore. This coming from a guy who collect's multiple lines and has a healthy collecting budget. It's Galvatron,Takara will get to him eventually. I love FT's,I have almost all of their figures up to this point. I think Sovereign looks great....but I gotta save the denero's for other things at this point and wait it out. Two years ago I would have pulled the trigger instantly.

Just transformed it to canon mode. It's pretty good. I do think they should have had a light gimmick. Quake wave and the Dibots got them. This character needs one. Hopefully they will add that feature in a some other future release.

To me they add a lot more character and expression to a figure, I truly love them especially when the finger base is on a ball joint!
A good example would be KFC's Ultra Magnus MP-22 hand upgrade. The figure as a whole is not the mode posable, but the hand upgrades allow you to "express" your pose more if that makes sense.
im ok with them as long as theyre not on a ball joint lol, but it seems more often than not youre more in luck than I am lol

The feet and hands definitely do not make this a dealbreaker for me. although those hands look like he wants to pet all the animals at the pet store.
That blast effect may be curved for movie accuracy. When he said to cybertron and used it as a thruster to fly onto his ship.
Or it might just be an individual results may vary.

The hand size is good because you can actually hold or pick up smaller bots. If the hands were smaller, it wouldn't be very functional. The proportion/size isn't so far off to be very noticeable, especially if his hands are doing something or holding something rather than held up right next to his face :)
