Really??! I very much strive to set a good example on these videos as I know many use them as a resource for information. I don't want to give bad info so I made sure I looked into this before I did it on a different bike. I'm lucky that I also have great contacts that I can draw solid info from when what I'm reading is unclear. Thank you for the compliment and thank you for watching!

@@BrickHouseBuilds back in the 80's a mechanic friend fitted new rings to a VW combi, as he had done many times before. A week later the customer came back complaining the engine used a litre of oil. It was smoking too. He stripped it down again. I looked at the rings with a mag glass and saw scratches and vertical wear marks like someone poured sand in the bores. Then he told me he honed it himself, washing the cylinders in his parts washer. So honing grit got trapped in the cyl cross hatch and ground the rings to bits. Again he honed the cyls and fitted new rings, but washed the cyls in detergent, (till a wiped rag stays clean). The result, no more oil burning or fuming. I got the idea from oem car engine assemblers in Australia. They had similar problems at a new production facility, engines coming back with problems. Cost a ton to sort out. So now I pass this down hoping it may benefit others.
Hey, i have some questions. Can I go trough the cylinder block with the Dremel and a brass brush head? Can you say which size of Hon brush you used? Thx
Is it okay to wash it in detergent like that with the bearings still in the casing? I want to do a deep clean like you but I don’t know if it’s good for the bearings
So the important part is to not let them dry via evaporation. I had coated the metal bearings with wd40 before going in the tub. I had the garage setup and ready with my air hose as once I was done scrubbing I ran the block up to the garage and used compressed air to dry off the bearings and steel surfaces throughout. I think quickly get more wd40 on the bearings and other steel to prevent flash rust. The detergent is used for lifting metal from the fresh hone marks. Very important to get the bore surgically clean as I show with the rag
Looking great. Love your attention to detail and those fantastic safety flipflops you‘re wearing 😂😂.. Just finished painting my cx 500 engine and expecting the frame and wheels next week from powdercoating.
I'm channeling my inner David Freiburger! Its super hot in this little shop so it was nice to have a week of detail work that allowed a more lax dress code!
I had the drill spinning to the right but in truth I assume it would not matter as long as you are creating the same degree of cut. The ball hone won't care which way its spinning. Entry and exit from the cylinder are very important so be sure to focus on that part. Thanks for watching!
No I am not really on any forums as if I join I tend to spend way too much time on there. Thats more how I structure the Facebook page as a build thread on the albums side.
Brick House Builds Yeah, that’s how I feel about social media in general these days. Well, here’s a link to the build. I’m hoping to have it rideable next week. I still have a few things to sort out before it’s registration ready. forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,179952.0.html
you are the first mechanic I have seen on YT who has cleaned a cylinder bore properly before assembly. Good job, its a pleasure to watch you work.

@@BrickHouseBuilds apparently few people know that cleaning a cyl bore with solvent isn't good enough.

With the smooth jazz and the ASMR tape peeling, I'm in a coma now. Now I have to go to work. :P
🤣🤣 love it!
Your attention to detail is truly inspiring - thank you once more for sharing!
I can't just leave stuff alone. Next video should be cool too!
I fabricated my battery box yesterday got a lot of ideas from your design, looks great
Thats awesome to hear!
Looks great. I don’t have the patience you do.
Thank ya!
Nice work buddy!!!
Thank you!
What size hone did you use?
I went with a 3 1/4"
@@BrickHouseBuilds Cool. Thanks!

You mean to clean stuff up I guess? What do you mean Hon brush?
What should I do if there is rust on my cylinder?
Gonna expect a sensual tape peeling sequence in all your videos from now on!
Hahahaha! From here out its sensual moto only

@@BrickHouseBuilds thank you I really appreciate it! Is there special detergent to use for engines or can I just use laundry detergent?
Looks awesome! Where did you get your engine hardware kit from?
You can find them on ebay actually. There is a company that has red packaging that makes a lot of kits

Awesome job man! Did you spray paint primer on the engine before you sprayed the black paint?
Never mind I just reviewed your paint links and answered my own question. Great work Man.
@@johnsutton7799 lol no worries. Thanks for watching!
Stumbled upon your channel this weekend. Great Videos! Question: When honing, was the drill in FWD or REV? Does it matter? Thanks.

Nice, that satin black looks real good too. Few things are more satisfying than removing the masking after a great paint job...
That tape peeling is definitely satisfying 👌
Oddly satisfying
Thanks Paul!
Was not ready for sensual tape peeling.
🤣🤣🤣 that it was!
BTW, are you on the SOHC forums? I've got a 73 CB500 project with a Bruce Lee theme, and I post my progress there.

What if I use my brain and don't force things? Thats how I normally operate
You can’t beat a bit of peel porn. 👍
That music at the end reminded me of the film Enter the Ninja..
Greetings from Scotland 🏴
Hahahaha when editing I just couldn't take it seriously and tossed the music in there for fun and laughs. Hello Scotland!

I had to light up a cigarette after editing that part...
It's like sex, but better, lol
