- Exercises are always good for our body as a general rule but especially for health of our hearts.
When it comes to health of our heart then any exercise will be good which achieves all or some of following goals
.Heart pumping should improve.
.Circulation of blood in our vessels should improve
.our weight should come within normal limit
.Exercise should normalise our blood pressure
.exercise should help us maintain our blood sugar within normal ranges
Doctors recommend 3 types of exercises for an optimal health of heart
1=Aerobic Exercises.these include brisk Walk,running,swimming,cycling,playing tennis and rope skipping.the main aim of these aerobic exercises is not only to improve heart pumping but also improve circulation of blood in vessels.
2=Strenghting Exercises.these include weight lifting,gym exercises with dumbells and bar bells and push ups,chin ups and squats.The main aim of these strengthen exercises is to reduce belly ,improve good cholesterol in our body I.e HDL And reduce bad cholesterol in our body I.e LDL and all of this collectively helps our heart have a good health.
3=Stretching Exercises.These are flexibility exercises like yoga and tai chi and their main aim is to help us have relaxed and well tonned muscles and also help us maintain our balance during above 2 mentioned exercises

I agree with you Dr. Sahib that aerobic/cardio exercise combined with strength exercises and stretching are essential for a healthy heart and body. I am a fitness instructor and train men from 50-90 years old. I do not recommend yoga but instead recommend pilates as pirates is not a form of worship like yoga.
