we just experienced a massive pandemic… licking sculpture seems to me to be utter madness I do love the idea of using sugar as a sculpture/ art material though!
i can imagine kids are the majority who licks the sculptures instead of adults. Kids do not stop and ponder who has lick them or not. Just the curiosity of things. Similar to how us when we were young how we ate snow to know what it taste like etc.
As someone who's worked 10 years in customer service, and who frequents museums and art galleries, without a doubt, I can tell you that it's gonna be full grown adults. Kids cannot reach without the help of an adult anyway. Most sculptures sit on pedestals. The people who touch things, who lick things, who hide things the most are adults.
My guess is that people thought that nobody would ever dare to lick it. That's just too gross. So that means no ones ever licked the sculpture before so it's safe to lick. Hmm, then I'll lick it. Not knowing there were people who thought the exact same thing. And thus the paradox was born. And so the paradox is born.

Those sculptures really are beautiful the technique. But the last art work is really touching, relying on strangers to keep your art work safe. I really could never.
5:58 I didn't consider the changes that the sugar goes through over time, that's actually incredibly cool. A changing and temporary piece of art. And the heart especially is cool considering that, just like our hearts that are slowly decaying with time, the art piece shows that.
It grosses me out that these people are walking up to something in a public place and not just putting part of their tongue on it but THEIR WHOLE MOUTH. The art is beautiful. The people are foul.
Involving people in ar and "keeping it alive" is always what I look up to for inspiration. Art can bring us together, albeit the licking part is kind of a gross way, especially after suffering through the pandemic. Predating those times that wouldn't be so weird.
Considering he's used 3D-scanning for his other sculptures, I'm surprised he carved the heart sculpture. If the theme is he's putting his heart out there, shouldn't he have used a CAT scan of his real heart?
in Poland there is a Wieliczka salt mine and they have the same problem with old sculptures, there is a ban on licking because it destroys beautiful monuments but the children still try to see if it is really salt 😂😭
I mean its cool but hes not sculpting any of it....i dont consider 3D printing art. Its a copy. Making molds is not hard. Getting the candy just rightnis the tricky bit
While this is neat, it is very weird that this is being called art, since it’s a 3D printer and a mold.. Lots of people do this all the time and we don’t call it art.. Also, the fact that he’s using non-food dye implies that people Really shouldn’t be licking his creations.
This is beautiful but bizarre. This particular process doesn’t involve any fine art skills whatsoever..no drawing, painting or sculpting. I still like it and appreciate it, but there’s no way in hell I would lick it. 😂 the fact that anybody would, or allow their children to is simply disrespectful. You don’t go into a gallery and touch art, much less interfere with it by licking it. You don’t go into someone’s home and lick their furniture or Knick knacks, or even a cake sitting on a bench. Today’s society are so stupid and disrespectful. SMH 🤦♀️
Great artist and sculpture--I was there in the Berlin Kleistpark during the opening. The sculpture was already slowly melting within the first couple hours---it was beautiful in a morbid way.
I was going to say no, but then I heard the art was made from sugar. I love sugar, I'm a sugar addict. I do drugs, and if I could choose between weed and sugar, sugar wins. Pump sugar into my veins. Yes, I would lick the sculpture, and I'm ashamed about it.
These are some of the greatest statues I’ve ever seen; even though he’s essentially just making them out of molds and not forming them or carving them I still think it’s extremely impressive to make them out of organic material that can degrade like sugar.
He could do a replica of a vintage african male fertility statue & call it 'The Pervert Pole'. Nothing would be left on part of that statue within a few weeks.
Let us know in the comments, would you lick these sugar sculptures? AND which sculpture do you like the most? 👀
$200 I would. But only after I get paid

Not knowing what pigment he's using makes me worried. Is it safe to ingest?
how bout you dont lick it
@AkaThePistachio I'm not going to. I was simply responding to pinned prompt
No, because diseases.
He knows that disclosing the pigment would make him in trouble. It's probably toxic.
