A man that is thinking outside of the box to do what is good for his country. The Government of Greece is stepping up to move the tank from location to another is no small feat. As soon as he started speaking I knew it was a Greek guy. It is funny how all native Greek speakers share such a similar English accent. Very happy to see Greek engineers trying to solve the problems we face in our country.
    The tank looks like a Leopard 1, it is a lightly armored tank focused on mobility, the armor isn't need on this role so this make a perfect carrier for a firetank. The components for these tanks are still manufactured in Greece since there are some Leopard 1 tanks left in service. More retired tanks can be transformed if the government wants to invest in this.

      an old one, Germany has a small fleet of similar firefighting tanks ... 32 on T-55 basis called Spot-55 which have a far more sophisticated pump and delivery system.
      And there are a few more on BMP1 and Marder basis.

    • @thesayxx
      @thesayxx 3 місяці тому

      @@diedampfbrasse98 nothing compares to the Big Wind that the Hungarian MOL has. This also has 4000l more water and an air conditioned crew compartment for passengers.

    • @diedampfbrasse98
      @diedampfbrasse98 3 місяці тому +2

      @@thesayxx Big wind is fed via external tanks and extrenal pumps via piping, and its purposebuild to fight oil fires in industrial settings. With 220 gallons of water per second it would run dry with a tank on its chassie .. so not sure where you got that 4000l more from. So these are not really the same as those firefighting tanks which carry their own supply in order to operate independently in the wild.
      BTW the Spot-55s also can be remote controlled over 1500m, cools itself via a sprinkler system over its hull and maintained the NBC protection .. can literally be driven into the fire if needed for rescue.

    • @thesayxx
      @thesayxx 3 місяці тому

      @@diedampfbrasse98 correct on the big wind stats, it does require a small lake to feed it constantly for putting out fires.
      The 4000l thing is the Jumbo carries 15t of water while the Spot-55 carries 11t. Thats mainly due to the Spot being based on the smaller T55 hull compared to the Leopard 1 hull of the Jumbo. The Spot-55 ability to be remotely operated is also nice.

    I love this. Did you know that Jamie Hyneman from Mythbusters, build a similar wildfire tank called "The Sentry". The big difference is Jamie's tank is remote controlled and can stand heat up to 1800 degrees Fahrenheit, and the water tank is smaller.

    Cool to see a tank tank. Since tanks were originally called tanks to make enemy spies think they were harmless water tanks.

    Designing and building must be in Greek blood!
    I've always had the need to pull things apart in order to find out how they worked.
    Mum didn't buy me many toy's after that 😅

    This is great! Also funny that the name 'tank' is invented by the English during WW1 to trick German spies to let them believe they were building mobile water tanks to supply water onto the battlefield. In fact these were armoured fighting machines. But the name 'tank' was a success and that's how these machines have been called ever since. So this guy has actually adapted the fighting machine into a mobile water tank. The thing it was named after.

    Pretty amazing story and a clever idea. Basically, he needs a working tank hull and then adds the superstructure and equipment.

    There was a video out some years ago about a Russian tank builder that converted some of his chassis to be fire fighters. Never heard what happened to them but the idea is very sound. 15,000 liters is a serious amount of water to haul round.

      this is a rather old "invention" and certainly not of greek origin ... not sure who done it first, but Germany has a small fleet of firefighting tanks ... 32 called Spot-55 (T-55 conversions) with a far more sophisticated pump and water/foam delivery system, also can be remote controlled over a range of 1500m. And there are a few more on basis of the BMP1 and Marder.
