I love that in the Rigaudon, Perlman doesn't bother to shift at all. He just extends his fourth finger a ridiculous amount and manages to have perfect intonation. That's a true master violinist.
Many people play sicilienne and rigaudon, but the thing is how they play it. I doubt many violinists can play it like Perlman, even playing jingle bells you can notice how good is a violinist. The thing that matters is the quality not the amount. When im studying, many times i play songs i studied 7 years ago just to see the difference and how i developed in all that time.
it makes me too jealous to hear him play this! i'm standing at my stand for an hour every day looking at this piece like "how the heck do i play that???" and he has it memorized!
i played the Sicilieene and am currently working on the Rigaudon which is extremely hard and he obviously practiced a lot. this takes talent but im 14 and working on it and ive only been playing for 5 years soooo. yup. its good.
@@gordonwu6828 Also, the reason you see more professionals playing this is because this is a piece at an advanced level, for this piece is quite difficult.
I got to watch you play this today at Musicfest (my daughter was also in your class), and I thought you did a very nice job. Good bow control! I enjoyed your performance. You should be very pleased! I play violin too (almost 40 years now) --- I wish my bow technique had been like yours when I was your age!
I play this song on violin too. I will play this song at my elementary school as a morning concert. It is a wonderful violin performance! I love Itzhak Perlman player!
I live in NJ too...I'm playing that piece, but not trying out for the regionals this year...not good enough. Perlman is amazing, butt listening to this depresses me...I could never go that fast in a million years!
seems like a lot of people commenting here really need to practice and/or get into their music... the man has clearly mastered the piece and has learned to fully enjoy it. stop complaining and strive for the same thing.
Did it ever occur to you that Perlman extends because it's easy for him? Perhaps easier or more convienient than shifting? because it requires smaller movements than shifting therefore it is more efficient. The initial comment was complimenting how his intonation remained perfect in the midst of all the extensions. Now if you know how extensions work, they contort the hand out of it's "natural" frame, and many people find it difficult to play in tune this way, especially at high speeds
I have to learn how to play this for an audition for an honors concert orchestra, and after listening to it, I don't think there is any possible way for me to play this, the Rigaudon part at least. We have to play all of Sicilienne and play to the repeat of Rigaudon.
YES! Finally someone who understands it, my mom especially doesn't understand that I just can't play it, it's physically impossible for me, and yea it is for PMEA honors orchestra.
Granted, he is able to do this because of his incredible talent and skill, but the size of his hands do play a significant factor aka they don't have to break "out of frame" as much, to reach second position, etc. What i'm trying to say is that it's all CONNECTED! When you compliment his intonation during extensions, you are also indirectly and perhaps unawarely highlighting how the size of his hands make this effortless for him.
I played that piece at my recitel, and Itzak seems to use a lot more dynamics than me... Well as they say, get to Carnegie hall by PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!! :P p.s Im 12
And let's not generalize about "large hands" either, because you have many variables including finger thickness, width of palm, length of fingers, difference between length of fingers, (especially the difference between the pinky and the middle finger). Each of these have advantages and disadvantages in certain contexts. We haven't even discussed minute variations in the size and contour of different fiddles and/or fingerboards. ALL of these, have an affect on extensions, etc, etc, etc
He seems to have a lot of passion when he plays.. but still it looks like so easy for him. As I once said, like "a little bit this and that and voila".
0_0 i'm doing this for my college auditions, and i did NOT no rigaudon was so fast. kind of depressed and jealous at the same time because i can't play that fast.... sigh time for practice... again.

I love this piece! I just cant play as good as him. He also went more faster than I expected which left me shocked😅 This is amazing

Well, that's the thing, Perlman probably can play twinkle-twinkle in such a way that it would be awesome.
I was following along in my music when I first listened to this and it was the most jarring page turn of my life
OMG Perlman- stop killing my self esteem! *cries in a corner*
He makes it look easy

This song is actually extremely hard. I’ve played it and I can only get the rigoudon to about 75% of his speed. Don’t say it’s easy.
how does he make it look so easy to play it with perfect intonation at that speed
I play violin and it's just amazing how calm his right hand is. I've struggled with this ever since I've started.
Andrea Ramos right? only just recently have i been able to relax my right hand, and sometimes i still stiffen up on accident
Me too my right hand is so hard to get it properly on the bow
How the heck does he make it look so effortless?! This version is so amazing......
1:51 you see that purple glow on the board, that's itzhak perlman's awesomeness
Cool, i didn't notice 😅😂
Reflects how much practice and how much time it took to compose and play this song

I really like Itzhak's sound and how he closed his eyes when he played. Great job!
Same!
how he manages to shift with perfect intonation WITH HIS EYES CLOSED is waaaaaaaaaaay beyond me
if you know your instrument like your body you feel where you have to be with the fingers...you don't need eyes...just soul, heart and practicing! ;)
I can shift without my eyes, not as good as he can obviously
We violinists never need to look at our fingers. It's unuseful because the fingerboard doesn't have marks on. We use the kinaesthetic memory.
i don't look at my fingers almost at all because I get distracted
The more amazing part is that he can match his bow perfectly with his fingers
it makes me too jealous to hear him play this! i'm standing at my stand for an hour every day looking at this piece like "how the heck do i play that???" and he has it memorized!
i just "finished" learning this piece and i can't understand how he can play it that fast and controled?
