    As a young boy of 5 or 6, I heard the melody which begins at the 6:00 mark. From my childhood on, I was haunted by it and would often hum it. At last, at age 72, I am hearing it once more, by a true master violinist! At last, I have once more been captivated by this exquisitely beautiful music; at last, I know what it is! A timeless masterpiece!

    What I have always loved about Perlman's playing is that, unlike that of old maestros like Heifetz or Kogan, it's so accessible to the layman audience. I don't mean to say that his music lacks sophistication or anything - far from it. I think we tend to forget that music was meant to be enjoyed by everyone, and not only those who have honed their taste for it through learning classical violin, piano, etc. As a means of communication, it's incredible how clearly Perlman always conveys what is in the music.

Perlman is fun. I listened to this piece by other artists and Ishy ,that's what we called him, stands clear in his playing. he also probably has the best recording equipment.

    There is something in Perlman‘s playing that touches me deeply. I don’t know how or why and I don’t need to know. It has certainly nothing to do with Perlman being “better” than other players, a value judgement some commentators seem able to make. I am just grateful. I wanted to add more comments to my previous comment. Mr. Perlman's "three finger bow hold" is another amazing thing I've seen on this video and others. He hardly uses his index and pinky fingers, despite his sound is so dynamic and yet sweet and warm full of emotion.
    Mr. Perlman is my favorite violinist! My 40 years of interest in classical music, I see there's nothing Mr. Perlman can't perform!
    From the day's just when the stereo cassette player came out in the late 70's in Japan, but high quality recordings of classical music in stereo was expensive (in the range of $30 per tape with only one piece. i.e Beethoven 4th).
    Now with internet, TrackID, etc. I can find so many piece that I couldn't find before and now even with video! No more moving parts! Everything records onto memory card. Things have really changed in such a short time.
    I am so lucky I lived to see Mr. Perlman's performance on video before I die!
    Thank you so much for posting such great pieces by Mr. Perlman!

      +Alejandro Martinez Yes Mr. Perlman (Sir) as I call him is truly one of the greats. But also check out Maxime Vengerov. (Another absolute genius crossover for 20th into 21st century. As well as miss Kyung Wha Chung from South Korea and Hilary Hahn from Canada to just name just a few from that upper echelon that have joined the rank of truly great violinists. There ARE other violinists of that calibre at the present time. Take your time and look and listen.

    • @lxdgr8
      @lxdgr8 8 років тому +2

      +David De Verteuil . Yes, sir, there are other great violinists today and yesteryear, and hopefully, in the future, as well; but, in my quite humble opinion, none compare to Mr. Perlman, except Mr. Heifetz, Jascha. If God allows us to hear the quality of Paganinini in heaven, then we'll be able to hear the best.

    • @daviddeverteuil8663

      +Alejandro Martinez
      Hi Alejandro., thanks for your lovely reply. I cant blame you for your high regard for (Sir) Itzak.
      There is such a long list of truly great violinists going all the way back to Nicolo Paganini. (Some silly people back then thought that he was in league with the Devil.) I just happen to be a fan of all of them including Heitfetz and Lord Menuhin. (By the way the Strad that Itzak is playing he aquired from Yehudi Menuhin after he retired.
      When you get a chance just check out documentary Maxime Vengerov 'playing by heart'. Goes for just a tad over 50 minutes.
      (I am also a big fan of Jazz music., just check out Stephan Grapelli and Yehudi Menuhin playing together.)
      Thanks. Dave D.V.

    • @lxdgr8
      @lxdgr8 8 років тому +1

      Thanks, Dave. How crazy is that, about Paganini?? I will listen to that Menuhin/Grapelli violin jazz duet and the Vengerov documentary, soon. I'm sure it's out of this world!
      &===(==OI=D)
      I'm sure someone out there knows how to make a violin out of alpha-numeric characters. I'm not that guy. LOL

    • @barrygoldberg8936
      @barrygoldberg8936 8 років тому

      +Alejandro Martinez Indeed, Paganini was in league with the Devil, so it is said, but Heifetz was in league with God! For perhaps the single most sublime rendition of the single most exquisite composition, listen to Heifetz playing Beethoven's violin concerto! There's nothing-and no one-comparable, I believe.

    Very emotional piece. I feel up to 7:49 the composer was trying to get across that the world is sometimes a harsh and unfair place, but then following 7:49 life and the world goes on and is filled with moments of fun and joy.
    Only Perlman could pull of this emotional heart string.

      Frank Robinson , Actually listen to Sarasate's own recording of the piece, available on UA-cam. He plays his composition as a little trifle, a mere show piece, not intending any true musical depth in it, just heart-on -sleeve, rather superficial little piece. That said, I love this piece because I think there is room in this world for all sort of music in the classical style. And at the same time, I truly admire Perlman's rendition of this piece, how much more depth he can put into this piece and justify it all. Just amazing! Hats off to him!

    I discovered the musician just two years ago…. It was this specific recording that touched me in wanting to know more who this funny guy is….. Itzhak is a musician by nature, straight from the heart, and also very comedian in a way I immediately adopted him in my heart. Through this video I explored many more of his recordings. I really got excited when I found all kind of historic recordings of Itzhak Perlman together with….Pinchas Zukerman….( Pinky for Itzhak and friends).
    You definitely must see this recording @Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman - Grand Duo 1….. and also Grand Duo 2.
