Former dog groomer here! Molly, you did great, as far as I could tell. Fun fact: it's easier to feel whether a dog is clean and thoroughly rinsed than it is to see it, so you actually might have done better than a sighted person. Great job!

It's easy to forget she's blind, the way she just knows how everything's placed, I'm not blind and loose everything all the time, is it possible to learn this power?
I would recommend always putting things back in the same spot. I'm sighted, btw. Although, I'm always losing my phone because I put it down in random places. I almost lost it while on vacation because it put it on top of the toilet paper dispenser in a restroom on a sightseeing excursion!

Try putting peanut butter on the side of the bathtub right wear you want his face to be while you wash the doggo! That’s what I do and it works for mine, use whatever your dog likes but peanut butter works SO WELL because you can smear it on and easily rinse off (but you won’t need to.. lol)

I literally just finished washing my cat. She usually goes to the groomer every few months to get a lion cut and LOVES it (she's thicc, and it prevents her fur from matting), but I had to do it this time. She was a total sweetheart, but made it very clear I wasn't getting a good Yelp review...
Toney I have 4 cats & out of all 4 only 1 throws an absolute fit in the bath. The others will just sit there and cry while they’re in the tub but they don’t fight it. It’s the saddest & cutest thing I’ve ever seen lol

No animals actually enjoy going to the groomers. That why I hate when people call it a spa day.
@@tahliatalks8902 Most don't but my girl does. I had to shave her the other day and she was sprawled out puring. The groomers always comment on how calm she is. She just loves attention, and will do just about anything to have all eyes on her. The other three would probably rip someone's arm off. Thankfully they're shorthairs, and leaner, so they don't need much upkeep on our part.

As a professional I suggest “spot cleaning” him once a week. Just take a moist wash rag and rub him down. Not dripping with water, your just taking the surface dirt off and leaving all his oils to do their work
Tips for washing your dog from a former dog washer:
- Brush beforehand to make rinsing go as fast as possible later
- Fill the tub first and then add dog, as the running water can spook the dog
- Use cups to scoop water from the tub and onto dog. If using a sprayer, spray it as close to the dog as possible, like into the fur, for less scare factor. Can add pets in the area to distract dog. If you're doing this to rinse, drain the tub first so less splashing of falling water
-If your dog is really afraid of the water, you can try wrapping them in a towel and lowering them into the water. Give lots of love and treats while towel soaks in. Remove towel once completely wet and go on with the bath
- To dry, drape a towel over their head and run it down the length of the body while pressing a little (to squeeze water out) Then can use a towel dry the rest in a ruffling motion. Let the rest air dry if possible. You can get a microfiber "robe" for your dog to wear after, they'll roll around in it and it helps dry them
- If you have to blow dry, use a cool setting and blow against the grain for faster drying.
I sing “Shake it Off” when giving my dog a bath. He now shakes on command to that.
I’ve tried this with my dog, but he doesn’t like baths and I’m pretty sure shaking at the wrong moment is his way to pay us back 😂

All the men I know regularly shower and wear deodorant, friends, siblings, SOs, etc. Let 'em know you don't like being around them when they smell. They'll clean up quick! I've met some smelly ones, but most aren't particularly smelly...
Cute Content a few things could cause that, things like the water pressure of your faucet touching them, the noise of the faucet, the small space that is a bath or shower, or anything really 🤷🏻♀️

Professional dog groomer here! you did good molly, well done. He's such a big boy 😅 A little tip incase you have to bath him again, we always shampoo twice ;) once to remove dirt and second time for extra fresh smell 🤗
Do you have any advice for keeping a very old and very lazy guinea pig clean? She loves her little plastic hut thing, but she loves it so much that she won't get up and go to the bathroom in a separate area of the cage. Her booty gets pee and poop all over it. I'm afraid to give her a full-on bath like I've done with other guinea pigs because she's older. I don't want her to get a chill or get so scared that her poor ol' heart stops. I've tried doing what I call "butt baths" and just scrubbing her butt and anal gland area with a soapy paper towel, then a wet one, and then drying her off, but I don't feel like that cleans her off well enough.

when we bathe my dog at home we have to bathe her OUTSIDE so we have to have a “hold on to the dog while i grab the hose” situation lol
One time we bathed my dog outside and he got away from us and was all wet and ran into his dog house which had straw in it 🤦♂️

Bathed all 3 of my dogs this morning. One literally hid in a bush in the very back of the yard. It was difficult and they're giving me the silent treatment lol

Laying a towel on the bottom of the tub really helps! My own 90 pound puppy hated baths and was really scared and when I started doing that the whole experience became so much easier for the both of us.
When I bath my mom's dog, I add some Epsom salts. It helps their muscles relax and I find Skippy's fur is fluffier after. Also a trick I saw once was to slather some peanut butter on the back wall of the tub so while the dog is busy licking it you can get them washed.

That's why I have bathtub on my must have list whenever I get a new place. 2 biggish furry dogs (55 and 65 pounds)? Yeah, they need a bath tub. One of them loves going to the groomer, because omg new people, but I only do that twice a year for when he blows his coat.
I think its so much easier to bathe my 80 lbs Shepard in our shower than in the bath but it's a pretty big shower

I find it so fascinating how well Molly can 'see' with her other senses. It is so cool, like when gallops booty was not yet in the tub, she knew, but I would probably just have assumed my dog jumped in all at once

We take our dog in the shower! Misty knows when she's dirty and loves to get showers so much she waits by the shower to get in!

Endless patience and understanding from you, your mom and Gallop. One of the things I admire most about you Molly.
I feel like Gallop doesn't mind being wet, he just doesn't want to be in the water, so that's not a terrible strategy for him
As a groomer, I am cringing.
But I'm also proud. In my city I am considered essential and I'm really proud of people trying their best to groom their own dogs during this time because I am definitely not essential unless it's an emergency groom.
Bathing people can do at home. Grooming fur no, cutting nails, depends on dog and if their nails are black or not. Expressing anal glands no. It all really depends on the dog. Our dog has had 2 back surgeries so we can really do much with him at home. So in a way groomers are more essential than say barbers. Some people can't groom their dogs at home.

In SF, the grooming salon at PetSmart is not considered essential. I have a mini poodle who needs to be groomed. All grooming salons for both humans and pets are closed. The shopping area at PetSmart is open though. You just can't get your pet groomed.

You can get silicone mats with suction cups on the back so you can stick them to the bathroom wall and then smear treats like peanut butter or cream cheese on that your dog can lick whilst being bathed ❤️
As a groomer I love hearing “this is hard work. This is worth the money” cause not a lot of people understand what it takes to thoroughly groom a pup

Molly, a bit of advice: a watering can works wonders for dog bathing! I like the kind that has a really long, unobstructed handle so its easy to change angles!
As someone who worked for a groomer as a dog/cat bather, you did an amazing job! You did so well making sure he was comfortable and clean!
I love playful Gallop!!! Most people may think that he's just a chilled out kinda old dog and we never see this side of him but he gets do into it while he's playing and it's adorable 😂♥️

You have to point to the tub and say "boca, get in" and she'll look at you sheepishly like "I don't wanna".

It's so nice to know that even highly trained service dogs have issues with stuff like taking a bath. I originally got my dog with the intent of training him as a SD (before realizing it wasn't for either of us) and I would get so discouraged whenever we dealt with a behavioral issue or fear. Seeing Gallop overcome things like baths and swimming pools really shows that all dogs have challenges that can be worked through.

Trainee dog groomer here. I was dreading this as labradors are the worst to groom, but you did a really good job! Given the constraints you had (a human hairbrush and no shower head) you managed really well, especially being blind as plenty of students struggle when they can see. I loved how you blocked him with your body, that's exactly what I do with dogs who like to wander off, and how you managed to get so much water out of his coat: I've spent half an hour drying a lab before with a proper dog dryer, so I was impressed! Also very glad you did his ears, most owners will probably ignore them and that can lead to a lot of problems, but you look after him really well.
One thing I would say is just to check his nails, especially if you're not getting out as much as they're likely to grow and if they get too long they can curl over which will be very painful for him. Also, if groomers are going to be closed for a while you may want to invest in a slicker brush and an undercoat rake. With labradors undercoat rakes work wonders, and then you wouldn't have all that fur in the bath (well, not as much of it anyway, it'll still go everywhere because labrador!).
Just wanted to give a comment as someone who after lockdown is going to be building up a dog grooming business as I've nearly finished my course (thankfully have my little dog to practise my clipping on, just be grateful Gallop's coat doesn't grow or you'd be doing that every six weeks too!), just to say well done, as your comment about dog groomers cringing in my opinion is wrong as you did a great job, and also give a couple of tips of how to look after him if this situation carries on. Love your videos Molly, and obviously love Gallop too! ❤️

My dog is small enough that we just put him in the sink, the bathtub proved there was too much space for him to escape/scramble/attempt to run around in a circle, etc. He definitely doesn't like baths in general, but he is usually fairly calm in the sink as long as one of us cuddles him while the other washes.

Loved his growly playing noises. We used to have a small poodle cross and our basset hound, and when they played together you'd think they were killing each other, and I'm like no they're fine, he's just the noisest player ever lol.
Also last night my 4-year-old son was having a bath and he got up and closed the door then I heard these not so happy meowing noises and sure enough, he had our 15 pound, super fluffy cat in the bath with him!! ...again!!! 🙀

Hey Molly, random question. How do you clean? I know keeping tidy and organized is important since you're blind but how do you actually clean/know when things are dirty? I'm sure your mom helps you now but when you lived alone? Do you hire someone?
There's methods to properly clean that blind people are taught/use. Like vacuuming or wiping in a crisscross manner (sorry, not a native english speaker), so you don't miss a spot.
Other than that it's probably a routine thing like it is for me and many other sighted people. I don't only clean when my place is dirty, I simply clean once a weak, parts of my kitchen and bathroom twice a week. Plus, if you spill something, you know, you gotta clean it.
And in case you were wondering, whether you can overuse the word 'clean'? Oh, yeah.
