Good list. I was 14, saw most of these at the theater. Lawrence was quite the spectacle. 1 Carnival of Souls. The first time I was aware of the sound design. 2 How the West was Won. The last movie using three projectors for the Cinerama Process. Hollywood was into making big cast features. 3 The Longest Day. Had anyone who was anyone doing a cameo here. 4 The Music Man. Beautiful to screen version of the Musical. Preston was magnificent 5 Gypsy. Another brilliant musical. 6 Mutiny on the Bounty. an admirable remake 7 Birdman of Alcatraz. Award winner. I saw it on a double. bill with The Miracle Worker. 8 Hatari was my John Wayne favorites. Fine Mancini score Hawks directs 9 Tales of Terror. Great cast a Corman gem. 10. Manturian Candidate. my favorite double feature, played with, Dr No.
The Manchurian Candidate & Cape Fear are my Top 2. 3. Whatever Happened To Baby Jane. 4. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. 5. The Days Of Wine & Roses. 6. Carnival Of Souls. 7. To Kill A Mockingbird. 8. Dr. No 9. Requiem For A Heavyweight. 10. Experiment In Terror.
I'm convinced that Il Sorpasso was a big influence on (or even a secret text for) all the US 'movie brat' directors of the late '60s and '70s. Fateful roadtrips are all over that period of US film starting with Easy Rider and it's Il Sorpasso that nailed the template and tone for that kind of story. Good on Harry for getting it in at #3; Il Sorpasso's one of the most influential films ever made.
I'm enjoying enormously your year by year lists. Considering that you must be much younger than me I found it reassuring to see Lolita and Il Sorpasso for instance, among your choices. Plus I love the inclusion of your grandmother among your favorites
Big mistake forget Seppuku (Harakiri) Maybe one of the best years in the history of films... Days of wine and roses... La Jetée El ángel exterminador The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner The Manchurian Candidate Cléo de 5 à 7 Vivre sa vie ...even ... Dr. No... But the Teo best: Lawrence of Arabia Seppuku No doubt
Also in 1962 (truly a great year in cinema) : - Ivan's Childhood (Andrei Tarkovsky) - The Eclipse (Michelangelo Antonioni) - Mamma Roma (Pier Paolo Pasolini) - Cléo from 5 to 7 (Agnès Varda) - Cape Fear (J. Lee Thompson) - Carnival of Souls (Herk Harvey) - Lonely Are the Brave (David Miller) - The Trial (Orson Welles) - Eyes Without a Face (Georges Franju) - Two Women (Vittorio De Sica)
@@QueenJneeuQ It's a year that would have deserved a "20 Best Films..." imho. Ivan's Childhood could well be my number 2 of all time, come to think of it.
Some more movies i would include for a possibly impossible list would be... atraco a las tres (love this little film), le doulos, El angel exterminador, Cronaca familiare, Ivan´s childhood (the first of Tarko´s 7 in what is probably my favorite run in film along Bergman´s 1970´s movies and Haneke´s 2000´s), Loneliness of the long distance runner, Salvatore Giuliano, 2 weeks in another town, The trial, Proces de Jeanne d´arc, Lonely are the brave... then throw the dice or, wait, maybe i will change it to my 20 or 30 favorite movies and skip the dice bit ... easier than to tire my neuron with the endless, hopeless process of choosing i get into!

Lawrence of Arabia is leagues beyond most movies
Somehow feels fresh and ahead of its time, like all other movies of the 50s and 60s were practice

I'm surprised that "The Longest day" isn't among them. unbelievable.
The Longest Day was indeed an interesting movie!
My favorite movie from 1962 is: "The Longest Day" Sean Connery / John Wayne / Richard Burton. A warmovie with an all star cast!
I'm enjoying enormously your year by year lists. Considering that you must be much younger than me I found it reassuring to see Lolita and Il Sorpasso for instance, among your choices. Plus I love the inclusion of your grandmother among your favorites
One of my favorite is Birdman of Alcatraz with Burt Lancaster Telly Savalas & karl Malden
Nice Christopher Walken impression over the Liberty Valance review
If only Liberty had more cowbell...
Cape fear, the original one.Dont mind the remake, just unsure of Nick Nolte casting, possibly needed a less gruff actor?
I totally agree. He looks like he's up f or a fight from the beginning.
blessings!
What about "Advise and Consent" (1962)? It's brilliant!
David and Lisa 62 was a great film.
My top 2 are:
2 Dr. No
1 Carry On Cruising
Big mistake forget Seppuku (Harakiri)
Maybe one of the best years in the history of films...
Days of wine and roses...
La Jetée
El ángel exterminador
The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner
The Manchurian Candidate
Cléo de 5 à 7
Vivre sa vie
...even ... Dr. No...
But the Teo best:
Lawrence of Arabia
Seppuku
No doubt
I am alone in regarding Lawrence of Arabia as perhaps the most boring and overrated films ever.
I think Bridge on The River Kwai is a better David Lean movie
@@hta5172 Both are historical fiction, but calling LoA boring and overrated is simply juvenile
@@Music--ng8cd I didn't mean to hate LoA, both are superior but I think BotRK is better

Surprised some of these wern't mentioned, cleo from 5 to 7 would be my number 2 of the year.

It's fun to play the "which films did he forget to mention" game, but overall I like his selections a lot.
To Kill A Mockingbird
