    Can I get all the colors that you tapped into the TBi and the names that went to the colors .... I need to smog my vehicle so would this work ?this is what I'm thinking using the LS wiring harness The way it comes out of the donor truck and then type in the TBI wires to each item is this correct if so can I get those colors and where they go thank you .... I have a CCLB dually 93 tbi 454 but I think I'm going to go with the 6.0 engine .

    • @Joe_Jackstands
      @Joe_Jackstands  5 років тому +2

      The wire colors i know some off the top of my head. I usually just focus on 1 sensor at a time and tap into the tbi harness as i go. The key power and tach, i went to the plug on the distributor has a red and white wire on it. the red wire is key power and white is tach. Vss went straight from ecu to the far left wire on the drac module behind the glove box i think it was blue. The coolant temp i used 98 camaro 3 wire temp 2 wires went to ecu and the the one extra one will go to the green wire for temp sensor. I didnt do nothing for volts gauge or the gas guage. The tcc wire will go to the back of the brake pedal. I never messed with ac i was going to use stock compressor and stock wires without going to the ls harness. I dont have smog in missouri so i dont know about smog stuff.

    • @Joe_Jackstands
      @Joe_Jackstands  5 років тому

      Not the timing of the engine, just the timing of the shift points. the ecu was tuned for 3.08 and the truck had 3.42 so the shift points will hit alot sooner. It still will drive fine but for the best performance have to retune for right gears.

      Start off with a 99-02 harness. Follow lt1swap.com write up for stand alone harness. From there it's just connecting wires from LS ecu to factory wires under your hood. Once you tap into the couple you need just clean it up and clean the rest. You only need like 5-10 wires from your factory harness.

  • @taylorh3930
    @taylorh3930 6 років тому +1

    Neat swap but I just don't understand what's so good about this overrated 5.3. I've owned a 2012 GMC and 2013 Silverado both had 5.3s and I'v found that it seemed like I really needed to have my foot into the floor to make any power. Now my 94 5.7 TBI has tons of low end great around town and in the city. I will say on the highway pulling out to pass that's were my old 5.7 TBI struggles and the 5.3s were nice but in my personal experience I've owned lots of 5.7tbi Chevy's as well as many 5.3s and in a pull off sheer low end off the line the 5.7 TBI eats the 5.3 hands down without a doubt. My opinion the 5.3 is way over ratted definitely not a tow rig motor unless you like towing at 5000rpm just to maintain highway speed. I owned a 08 6.0 6spd Auto 2500HD with 3:73 gears and wow what a truck great MPG lots of grunt loved it miss it. Long story short I'd take a 5.7tbi over a 5.3 as I tow and haul things but I'd take a 07+ 6.0 6spd vortec over both. Nice swap but with the work involved I'd upgraded to 6.0 vortec.

    • @Joe_Jackstands
      @Joe_Jackstands  6 років тому +1

      theres a huge debate which is better the tbi or the ls engine. Comes down to personal preference . This truck was a original 4.3 v6 and i had a 5.3 sitting around so i just thru it all in there. I would of went with a 6.0 but the price for one around here is around 1200 and i can get a 5.3 all day long for around 600 from the junkyards. I only cruise and do a burnout every now and then and the 5.3 does great for that.

    • @taylorh3930
      @taylorh3930 6 років тому +3

      +Joe Jackson yup 4.3 to 5.3 is definitely a upgrade plus your truck is a regular cab short box plus you already had the motor sitting around. Definitely not dissing the swap I'v contaplated a 6.0 swap many times. I'm just tired of people dissing the 5.7TBI I find they are great low end stump pullers. I find people only look at how much HP it has not what curve it puts the power down. A truck like yours yes a 5.3 suits its great.

    • @Joe_Jackstands
      @Joe_Jackstands  3 роки тому

      Your biggest expense is motor and trans. If you already got that and all accessories then you only need a couple things to make work. Convert the harness to stand alone take a couple days yous first time. Then fuel pump a cheap kemso I have used plenty of times with good results is $30. Get some $30 adapter mounts for engine. Tune the vats out ecu $100. So for a average swap very basic I'd about $1000-$1500 if yours doing all the work. If you add ac then price goes up a little for brackets.

      PondDestroyer 99 the price of everything really varys on how much you spend on your swap. Try to get everything you can. Every sensor,belt, starter, intake, hose and anything really bolted to the motor. Other wise the swap will nickle and dime you to death. Once you have that the other stuff is farily cheap.

      You can just kinda depends on the year. If its a 99-02 drive by cable setup you can get away with no tune and just a basic flash. On a 03-up with drive by wire it will act up since the throttle is computer controlled. I havent done a 5spd swap yet so Im not 100 percent on it. If your getting ecu flashed just tell the tuner and he can take out the automatic trans control and swap it to the 5spd setting.

      @@jcphillips476 The tips and tricks I can think of is when putting the engine in (I did it with transmission connected) strip the motor all the way down. I tried to keep everything on and kept getting snagged on everything and about broke intake. So strip the intake coils and headers off and it wiggled in there alot easier. I removed the bed to do fuel pump its alot easier that way and paint the frame while its off. Be sure you have every part from the donor truck other wise this swap will nickle and dime you to death. The last couple i have done i did for under 800 using all the parts from donor vehicles. Be sure to fill the coolant thru the upper radiator hose after install cause it wont pump thru the motor just pouring into the radiator. Thats all i can think of at the moment.
