From the creators of 'A Very Potter Musical' and 'Holy Musical B@man!', comes 'Twisted: The Untold Story of a Royal Vizier.' Hop on your flying carpet, because this musical parody retells the classic tale of Aladdin... from the villain's point of view! Long ago in a Magic Kingdom, one misunderstood Royal Vizier will go on a quest to save his city from its bumbling sultan, an invading prince, and the most notorious thief to ever live! With the help of the Kingdom's free-spirited, teenage Princess, the Vizier must find a magical lamp containing a wish-granting Djinn (who's really funny, by the way) and defeat the city's most-wanted criminal... Aladdin! This musical adventure celebrates and lovingly pokes fun at everyone's favorite series of hand-drawn, animated films.
'Twisted' features story & script by Matt Lang, Nick Lang, and Eric Kahn Gale. With music by A.J. Holmes and lyrics by Kaley McMahon. It is directed by Brian Holden.

I just realized that the disney “villains” singing in “Twisted” were not randomly chosen. They each represent one of jafar’s motivations and show him that you can’t always have what you want without hurting other people.
Ursula represents his desire to be respected by the people and to be a fair ruler.
Scar represents his desire for equality between people from all backgrounds.
Gaston represents his love for his wife and his desire to save her.
Maleficent represents his desire to fit in amongst the people and the court.
Captain hook represents his frustration caused by the Princess’ lack of responsibility.
Huge props to the people that wrote this musical. This level of depth is just incredible(unless i’m over-interpreting).
Cruella represents his desire for a puppy coat

Are you going to reply to me? I’m just curious.
@Elly van den Brink Sorry about that, I just wanted to know about why the romance in Twisted worked, while Wicked’s didn’t.
@@thesapphireone Ill respond for this commenter, but the reason why Elpheba and Fiyero don't work is because it pushes the ideal that a woman has to put up with a man's shit because "he just has issues", also their relationship has no impact on the story itself (unlike in twisted where jafar's goal is to get back to his wife), also elpheba and Glinda have way more chemistry and the love triangle is uncomfortable and goes no where

with Black Friday just coming out, the Starkid cast are on twitter like “it’s more dark than our other stuff but we hope you like it!” and every time I see that I just think back to this show with Sherrezade having her ear cut off and then being stolen, Aladdin having an alternate personality and murdering his parents, Aladdin being an actual pedophile, Aladdin threatening to rape Jasmine....
this show is just too real huh
like you said, this show is really dark, but in a real-life way, because there are people who are really pedos, people who murder their parents, but black Friday is dark in the way it plays into pretty common horror movie tropes (a cult being controlled by an eldritch being)
@@meredithreaves2769 but also abuse... And PTSD..... And just everyone dying.....
(But I get Black Friday on a surface level is pretty cliché)
kaaiitlin that is true but black friday was a lot darker in tone and themes than twisted. twisted presented itself as more of a comedy than black friday
also the quote "what if tomorrow never comes"
@@meredithreaves2769 except the fact Twisted ends with the Magic Kingdom becoming a meritocratic democracy thanks to a naive but good-hearted girl, and Ja'far reuniting with the love of his life... while Black Friday ends with the implication of thermonuclear annihilation.

Can we take a quick moment to appreciate all of the variety of voices everyone in the cast can perform? Especially Achmed’s actor, the Djin and the main Guard guy. (I don’t know their names)
It’s so great.
Achmed is Joe Walker, the Djinn is Nick Gage, and the main guard is Jim Povolo :)

“I’m mostly Welsh but-“
I can't believe this "If I Believed In Wishes" thing brought me to tears. This *whole thing* is criminally underrated, just like the protagonist in the world of this musical.
I'm currently revisiting these Starkid musicals and I really have to say that "Twisted" is one of their best musicals they ever did. It's like they managed to take a Disney movie and turn it into a story about a man who not only goes through grief but does everything he can to help the kingdom and the Princess. Plus there's so much to like about it such as the role reversal on both Ja'far and Aladdin is so damn clever, the script is just funny and touching at the same time, the music is brings tears to my eyes and even the character development is great too. I think of all the musicals Starkid has done, this one is my favorite.

"You think you're better than me just because you can read? Then get out of my bookstore!" is probably the most underrated line in the whole show. I mean I love a good tigerfucker joke as much as the next guy but that brought tears to my eyes

One of my favourite details is that in "Dream a little harder" when the towns people are singing all the ways Jafar could meet his end, they reference the ways the villains that appear in "Twisted met their ends
Skewed by a ship = Ursula
Eaten by Hyenas = Scar
Plummet to their death from a castle = Gaston
The only villains death that is mentioned but they don't appear in "Twisted" is "hanged in tangled jungle vines" which it obviously references Clayton, who is commonly said to have one of the most brutal and violent deaths in any disney film
The attention to detail in this musical is insane
Technically it also references Ratigan (plummet from a clock) and The Evil Queen from Snow White (plummet from a cliff) who also aren't in "Twisted"
The implications of jafar not escaping after being accused of being a sorcerer are horrifying.
How long before the sultan suspected the princess of being a demon spawn because she was born of the wife of a demon, regardless of fatherhood, after she spirals under Aladdin's influence. It would definitely question her right to the throne.
Really makes the next song hit that much harder.
Then you have the invading army crying ''TIGER FUCKER''

The saddest part about the ending is that by becoming the djinn, he becomes immortal, which means since one of the few limitations of their magic is the inability to restore the dead, he doesn't even have the opportunity to finally meet his wife again, even in death.
Awww the third wish!!!
Rachael's performance in this blew me away. I saw her first in Firebringer and she was great there but she just killed this role on another level. Her singing talent in particular really shines. I love her as the Princess so much.
“except you’re forgetting one thing i’m a thief” literally made that scene so scary
Elizabeth Fowler it seriously took such a dark twist at that point. It was all pretty dark at that point, but the implications behind the “taking what I want” line are so fucked.
It's a dark fucking show. I think its they're darkest. Fuck TGWDLM. So it didn't have a happy ending. At least it never implied rape and hasva guy with split personality disorder killing his family. It didn't have a guy losing his wife to royal asshole. This show is D A R K

Hope you’re doing all right!
Of course I want you to get your happily ever after, but if you're still on the outs it might be time to start thinking about a rebound. 🤷🏻♀️
I'm gonna need an update
I just realized that, as Jafar is singing about wanting to see his wife again in the first act's climax song, he sings the line "[We'll] share an itty bitty living space," which is a reference to the genie in the original when he's talking about his lamp. I didn't need your foreshadowing slapping me in the face after my third run through, damn it.
Someone had to point that out to me. you aren't the only one.
I think because that song is their homage to Wicked's The Wizard and I where Elphaba said "I'm so happy I could melt"

Having the chance to perform as Achmed in a university production of this show is my greatest accomplishment in life and so many lines in the finale stand out to me more now that I've bonded with so many people in the cast. Power In Me used to be one of my least favourite songs, but now that I can appreciate the finality and beauty of it, it's one of the most emotional for me.
You are so lucky- Achmed seems like such a fun role to play!
It is strange that Jafar calls Pixar their vassal while Achmed declares it a sovereign nation and Jafar just stands there. Your vassal just declared its independence in front of you and you do nothing. No wonder they brought whole army to overthrow the sultan.
This play is deep.

yeah that line is a lie. he didn't even get the princess to take of her clothes and that was after he sang an entire musical number about it :/
8 years later and i'm still thinking about how they had so little time to develop ja'far and sherrezade's relationship and did it BEAUTIFULLY
like every part had to fit together just right and it DID
the selling point for me really is their acting. don't get me wrong, it's *maz*ingly written and blocked, but the pure joy with which they speak/sing to each other and the adoring looks in their eyes
no one could pull this off like dylan and meredith
I come back to this musical again and again. It's so funny and lighthearted but also so endearing and emotional. Rarely, if ever, have I seen these two aspects combined so beautifully.
