AHHHH. thank you SO much for alleviating my fear of dismantling and cleaning my Berkey. I DID it!! yaaaaaay! we absolutely love our Berkey! and now I'm comfortable with keeping it forever. I love your "confessions" series.. so so helpful.
That's right, forgot about that! They shipped it that way from the factory. We have water in ours constantly for drinking and our moves are generally short, but that would work for sure! Thanks!
Such an important point. All those who review Berkeys for rvs neglect this question. Do you leave it all together if you are only traveling a day at a time?
About a year and a half ago I moved to an apartment with “city water” which I wasn’t used to drinking...after carrying gallons and gallons of h2 o from the store I decided to buy a Berkey and I’m so happy I did...it sits on the counter making it easy to fill from the extendable faucet hose...I’m a big fan of berkey!
We replaced the RV "flip up" sink in our Interstate with a much deeper residential style sink specifically to carry our Berkey in the sink. We brace it with a couple of refrigerator bars. Works great. Btw, make sure you do the "red dye test" every so often. We have found that the filters occasionally fail, perhaps from the regular vibration.
@@IreneIronTravels Oh no, my husband is not going to be happy. Now I don’t just want a Berkey and residential sink, I realize we need them! I couldn’t justify getting one because room is so limited and they are expensive. Now hearing how gross water is and the sink serves as storage, we need both. It really is a no brainer, right?! 😬👍🤞
Great video!! We got our Big Berkey because we spend a lot of time in Arizona where they have arsenic in the water! We are currently in a park where each site has a reverse osmosis system because the water is so bad. Besides the black filters you can get the white arsenic filters and use them for extra protection. Thanks for the video.
I would cover it, sealed in a plastic bag, before setting it on the bathroom floor to keep away dust and other contaminants!!!! I own one for my travel trailer and a bigger one for the house. It is a great product, I love my Berkeys!!!Nice video, thanks for sharing!!!
Love our Big Berkey at home. We have the GO Berkey for when we go in our RV. Before leaving home, we fill up 2 steel water containers from our Big, and make some ice also. Those all go in the RV before leaving. Once at our campsite, we prime the GO Berkey and get it filtering. It is small, but we are always replacing the used water back into our canisters. Works for us! Hint, to make it drip faster, cut a plastic straw about 1/2 to 1/4 inch off the end and slit down the side, then put it in between your 2 Berkey containers. Try it. 🙂
I would put the berkey in the sink. For travelling you could put the berkey inside the other for storage if not in use then put it in the sink. One bit fits inside the other.
Great vid ! We’ve been using a Berkey for many years. We are on a well and our water has a lot of rust in it so we have to clean our filters about every 6 weeks because they get clogged up with rust. It’s worth the hassle. We also have a water softener in our system and Berkey does not recommend using water softened water so we only use water directly from the well (before it gets to the softener) to filter for drinking.
Another fantastic video you two put together. Great information on fresh drinking water. I didn’t realize how many chemicals were found in campgrounds that can harm a person from this. The Berkey looks like a good choice to purchase. Thank you for taking the time to explaining and showing us the way to clean it. I appreciate the time you made for this video . BS & BK
I think if you ck the max capacity on the travel model it's like 15 gals per day if you keep it topped off and continually drain it. We've used one for 3 yrs now and would never go back to any other system. We never use soap to clean it we only use warm water and white vinegar. We actually put a small hook in the wall of the van by the sink and tie it down with bungee cords. Works great and we never forget to secure it.
I am a Berkey lover. However, on trips where we travel more frequently we store our Berkey and use the Zero Water 10 cup pitcher its fast, stores easy fits anywhere and is close to the cleaning power of the best in the water business the Berkey. The filters are disposal. Thanks for the post.
Storage is definitely the down fall of the Berkey for RV'ers and travelers. Glad to hear the Zero Water is working out as well for you! Thanks for watching!
@@IreneIronTravels All the stainless steel portion does is hold the water. The important bits are the filters themselves. You could probably buy a square set of stainless containers from a restaurant supply store, drill the two holes for the filters, and put a 20 dollar spigot on the lower one, and have something that might be easier to store.
I have been pushing for one of these for our trailer. We do not have any counter space, I think I have 2 inches between the sink and stove so I have to get creative with my water storage but it would be well worth it. Thanks for being so thorough, I always wondered about the filters and how to clean etc.
We purchased the "Big Berkey" 2.25 gallon model which we use for all of our drinking and cooking water at home. It proved to be a bit big for the camper so we purchased a "Travel Berkey" 1.5 gallon model to carry with us. In addition, we purchased a couple of filter bags (Lot of 2 x 1 Micron 7"x16" Singed Polyester Felt Filter Bag PESP1S Size 1) to pre-filter silt, algae, etc. should we ever need to use water from a lake, creek or river...figured that it could help keep from gumming up the Berkey filters.
We really wanted to be able to fit a bigger one in here like the Big Berkey, but the Travel Berkey turned out to be a perfect size. Good tip on the pre filter bags, thanks!
So funny. When I first started my investigation into full time life, the Berkey was one of the first things I researched and decided I must have it ! Haha
Will you be doing some type of conversion or build and posting videos? I am in the process of converting a shortbus, always looking for new ideas or new ways to build it out.
Glad to see you guys use the Berkey too! We opted for the metal spout for ours to add a little more durability to the system. The deal breaker for us was seeing a UA-camr offer their dog water from two separate sources in identical bowls. Dog smelled both bowls and went for the Berkey filtered water bowl. Too, the company recommends not letting the filters stay dry for more than (I think) 24 hours. Due to its size, this is never a problem with the travel size.
I am definitely going to have a filter system, it makes sense when your traveling and you're not sure of the water source where you are going. I am not on the road yet, hope to in the next few years or so. Congrats on two years full-time rv life, I am envious!!! Even at every 3-4 month cleaning is not bad at all.
Love your video thanks! If your Berkey fits under the counter, how about installing it with the spout over the sink for filling your glasses? Have a great day☀️ Sonja
@@IreneIronTravels just kidding. 🤣 You guys put out great content. My wife and I just started Vanlife, only part time. We have extensive RV experience but Vanlife is a different animal. We have picked up some great tips from your videos. Thank you and take care.
i just bought the big berkey for home and was planning on carrying it every time we leave in the rv. Here is my take, and advice or ideas appreciated but I find in a bit annoying. We left for a beach vacation and i followed the rules of setting it out on a plate to dry and set a papertowel over it, we got back home, and i did the whole priming thing but just decided to do a dye test for kicks and grins and it did not pass the dye test so berkey sent me new filters. This has me wondering if every time we take a vacation that our filters will go bad? I also find it annoying to refill every 2 days to make sure filters stay wet and that also causes me to worry and wonder if they are really doing there job. Our son is starting college football so we will be traveling every single weekend now and that puts me in the dilemma of i must carry it with us every weekend to keep them wet or i am gonna have to empty, dry and re prime every single weekend. I just wish that I had went with an under the sink mount now, install and forget it.
Hi Chris and Aaron! This is a really great video! As you said, water is so important, both for daily life and activities, as well as enduring health. I certainly don't practice that mantra as much as that comment as I typically don't care for water. For many many years, water was our only option to drink. At best, it was in some mega 400 gal water trailer or maybe in the government 5 gal jugs. But also it would be streams, rivers, and swamps; and then treated with iodine tablets. However, as we have talked in our meetings, I do drink more water now! That, plus a diet shift, has brought on great results.....and it can be done without medications! This water filtration/treatment capability that the Berkey provides is awesome! QUESTION: I assume you could use your Berkey to just scoop water out of a stream and drink it? Of course, for longevity, I assume you would maybe want to pre filter that water just to keep the larger contaminates out? QUESTION: Now that you have the travel trailer vice the van , have you looked into a larger Berkey? i.e. sized it and came up with a new storage spot , if it were bigger? As you know, our area in Ouray began in the late 1800s during the gold and silver mining rushes. Our water and sewer system isn't that old, but parts of it do go back to the early 1900s. With regards to the water system, the town doesn't know where all of the pipes are. Plus, they have discovered that the spring water is not displaying evidence of ground contamination. Our sewer system is antiquated, being over used due to the surge of tourism, and contains many types of sewer pipes. When we replaced our main sewer line, it was cast iron (holes rusting into them), Orangeburg (cardboard pipes soaked in tar; mainly used in World War II...so plant roots have grown into them), and clay (which they discovered the main city clay pipe was crushed, so everybody's waste uphill from us was going into the ground). And of course, it is 10s of millions of bucks to repair all of this; which a 1000 person town won't be able to do . So...when I say I fully expect a main water or sewer failure in the future, it is no exaggeration. Our ORV trailer is not only for fun, it is also the escape pod when a town service fails. For the record, the town is moving in a direction to repair these issues; it will just take a long time. Hence, with a Berkey type device, I literally could scoop water out of the water fall that flows behind our house. Safe travels
Oops, I think I may have gotten my new Berkey in October and I haven't washed it out at all. I've just been peeking in to make sure there weren't any floaters or weird stuff. Err I better clean it asap. Great advice on drinking water, most people don't drink enough. I use the Berkey at home but got the Travel size for the husband and myself. We always used a Brita pitcher before and still do in our camper, barn shop, and bar fridge but upgraded to the Berkey in our kitchen. Our well water has a lot of iron and you just never know what might have crept into the groundwater :( I normally just check the reservoir before bed and put in the necessary amount of water to filter while we sleep. The small size is easy to keep next to the sink and we can take it along when we travel with the RV if we want. Great explanation on cleaning - you made it simple. My only dislike was priming the new filters, that wasn't as easy as I had hoped, but not a deal-breaker.
Thank you for this video! TOTALLY AGREE with the importance of drinking water, I drink a minimum of 64 oz. & typically more, not quite at 100 oz. though sounds like a good goal for me & easily obtainable. Initially bought the Big Berkey then realized it’d be too big when traveling in our van. I exchanged it for the Travel Berkey. Due to being a caregiver for my elderly parents have not had the chance to travel extensively as originally planned. When we did take our Berkey we haven’t been able to find a suitable way to secure it when moving. We had an incident of it coming apart & breaking the filters even though we thought we had secured it. My husband just wants to use something that’s easier to secure. We don’t have a permanent bathroom & it won’t fit in any of our cabinets. Hopefully will be able to figure out something to make traveling with the Berkey possible.
I keep looking at them. We do double filter all water coming into the trailer, but it's nothing like the Berkey. Thanks! Love the Mad Max scenario comment! 😁
Great looking body's. I see there's a super small one.. I'm going micro small trailer hoping on having a lighter 4x4 with bugout toy in truck bead. I like the idea of using those collapsible bags seeing I my self will not have much if at all a tank. I want snow and rain collecting.. Challenge's/fun. Be safe and thanks for shearing.
Great explanation and demo of the Berkey! We keep a travel size Berkey in our van too, as well as a larger one in our house. We have been using them for year and love them. We spent some time in AZ as well, and I think I read that the filters don’t remove salt/sodium, but not 100% sure. What have you found?
I don't think they do remove sodium either, or at least haven't seen anything that says that specifically. We were in AZ when we first got the Berkey and I remember the first water out of it tasted so good! Like spring water from a bottle.
The carbon filters don't remove all the minerals that can be dissolved in water. It does reduce how many of those minerals are in the water though, so it's better than nothing. Much better than nothing. Berkey does sell a mineral filter which you can screw onto the bottom of the carbon filters. They sit in the lower tank though, so I don't know if that system would work for Chris and Aaron's set up, as I doubt they'd want the mineral filters submerged in their drinking water. They'd probably have to get a bigger container or drain it off faster. I don't know if the mineral filters remove sodium either, but they do remove fluorine and chlorine, and a bunch of other minerals, so it ain't gonna hurt anything if you used them. Like everything else Berkey related, they're not cheap though.
Great segment and information. We’ve been using the collapsing containers for drinking water but the Berkey is definitely something to consider. Always wondered how you were storing that while traveling! It’s great getting to read about the options your viewers come up with too. Like the idea of the residential sink but we like the extra counter space when the lid is closed.
I very much enjoy your videos, thank you for doing them. They are well thought out and executed and fun to watch. I am a fan. When it comes to water filters, I am not on board. I am not saying the birkey doesn't perform and work well for you, I'm sure it does. But for me, the high cost is not justified. I can't get around the fact that Birkey doesn't submit it's units to NSF/ANSI certification testing. They have employed independent labs (Envirotek and Los Angeles County Lab) for testing, but neither of these is as rigorous as NSF/ANSI testing. Other filter companies have submitted their products, and this allows them to be compared on an equal footing to each other. I'm not saying anything Birkey is doing is wrong, but submitting to NSF/ANSI testing would allow complete comparison with other products on the market. Be well!
You can make your own system which mirrors this. There are tons of vids on youtube showing you various materials and methods. I made one for myself using ceramic candles (which are not thought to be as good as Berkey's carbon ceramic filters) and 2 crockpots. So you could get another filter from a company who you do trust, and make the same sort of system, for pretty cheap. I think the two crock pots, 5 gallon bucket i put them cost like 30 bucks all together. The ceramic candles were the most expensive part, and they were only like 25 bucks a piece.
Hello! Thank you for watching and we appreciate your comment. You have some good points. It is hard to know exactly what we are drinking and how good a filter is working for sure. We drink about a gallon of water a day each and at the very least we are making an effort to make it safe while getting it from so many unknown sources. Thanks again for the comment and watching!
Could you , when the water is done filtering, take the top part off and use the lid on the bottom part for easier transportation? How about a Tupperware lid? Use that press and seal wrap to keep water in? I was thinking about putting a Pure water filter onto my camper faucet. I use it at home and the dog loves the water as do we.
You could separate them for travel, but the lid does not fit on the bottom chamber. Also, the top chamber has the filter stems sticking out so you would have to store it upside down as well. We just don't have much space in the van. Haven't tried the Pur before, but it's a good idea to have some type of filter system in the camper for sure.👍👍
If you get the largest one you can afford that is also suitable for the space you have, that should suffice. The larger statement is obvious because it is less time filling and searching for water and you will soon learn how long your water will last you. The storage aspect really depends on how much space you can afford to give for your water system. As it is a fundamental need I would say bigger is better. You could always use your tanks for showering or anything that you may boil. Except being Scottish/Brittish keep your best water for tea ! Much love. Rab
The water stays pretty cool in the stainless steel reservoir as long as you keep your RV a decent temp! We also refill two 1.5 liter bottles in the fridge for that really cold water!!
Have you seen the video where the guy actually uses an air pressure to blow the stuff and water out of the filter? It literally pushes the gunk out and you will see the water flow free. It is Ritchie From Boston but he has a new channel. He is a licensed plummer so he will do his own stuff before he will rebut.
Here's a thought for a new post. Where do you draw the line on how cold you are willing to expose your RV to without winterizing it? I've heard that you can let it drop to as low as 20 degrees without fear of freezing pipes. Does it make a difference if you are driving versus stationary? I have a class B with tank heaters. That helps the tanks but does it help with the water lines? Have you ever been on a trip and been forced to stay in weather colder than you feel comfortable with? I'm not talking physically comfortable but rather comfortable with not damaging your RV? I'm sure I'm not the only one with those questions. I even hesitate to take my Class B Era out from heated storage for service for fear it will be parked outside in subfreezing temperatures.Where should we draw the line?
Great idea on a video. We've been in the high 20's overnight without any problems, but if it stayed below freezing for more than a couple hours I would be worried about the lines, valves, macerator pump as well. We have tank heaters too but haven't had to use them. It might help circulate the water if you pulled it through the lines, but still would be worried about it in sub zero temps! We just drive south fast!😂It shouldn't matter with driving (wind chill) as long as the ambient air temp is above freezing.
I'm not sure if you could or not. The replacement filters are $120, so I'd hate to ruin them, but Berkey did say you can use vinegar on the stainless steal chamber while clean that.
I just setup my Travel Berkey. I’ve been using the Reverse Osmosis refill stations for over 4 years now. I’m finding that the water tastes smoother and sweeter. But it still tastes a little.... more mineral than the Reverse Osmosis water. Kind of weird.
Good video guys! I am wondering why van & rvers don't get an under the sink water filtration system rather than a Berkey on the counter? Not enough room under the sink? Thanks for the vid and stay safe.
I would say most get a Berkey just because its easier. But, the first van we were going to get did have a built in water filter under the counter. Roadtrek CS Adventurous. So it is doable and you can put your own in!
Yes, we do filter all water once with a RV water filter amzn.to/3nkkk1n and then we filter all drinking water with the Berkey. We do fill it from the fresh water tank from the faucet!
Instead of double stick tape, have you considered heavy duty command strips with large hooks with some sort of bungee to hold your Berkey on the counter during travel?
Thanks so much for watching! Here are the links to our two kinds of water containers. Hard-sided 6 gallon jug amzn.to/2G9FtIf Water bags 2 gallon amzn.to/2S1yzax And the video if you haven't seen it. ua-cam.com/video/1jhWGI9OXas/v-deo.html
That's right, forgot about that! They shipped it that way from the factory. We have water in ours constantly for drinking and our moves are generally short, but that would work for sure! 😊 🙏
Yes the Berkey brand are expensive but last for many years! You can try the $60 generic brand but I don't know anything about them. Looks like they are a direct fit replacement, amzn.to/3fUlc7T
Sorry! We filmed it and forgot to add it in! The filters come with a round rubber piece that you stick on the end of the filter and then "prime" by using a facet or hose to force water through the filter. Very easy and it takes a bout 30 seconds per filter! Keep the rubber piece for after cleaning to re prime if necessary.
@@IreneIronTravels thanks for the quick response - you guys are the “bees knees”! Lol hope I used that phrase correctly. Good to know I don’t need the priner kit they sell on Amazon! ‘“
They don’t ship this product to CA. Do you know why? We are sold on this for our drinking water and will have to pick up in another state.... 🙁 when we hit the road.
That is interesting. I just read it has to do with CA lead free regulations and the stainless steel Berkeys don't comply. They can ship the plastic one. Here's the article www.berkeywaterfilter.com/product-category/berkey-california-approved/?doing_wp_cron=1612488683.1094110012054443359375
I was convinced we don’t need a Berkey, but now after seeing your filters, ewww..... I need a Berkey. Question, would museum wax work to keep it in place?
We don't have any experience with museum wax, but it might ! Keep in mind it is two pieces so even if the bottom holds the top could move on a big bump!
Does the Berkey make your water acidic by removing minerals that keep it from being acidic? If it does, that matter since you guys are health nuts? The reason I ask is because I was using a Zero Water filter. I started getting acid reflux...probably NOT from the Zero water (probably caffeine induced). Anyway, I tested my water after it was filtered and it was on the acidic side after filtration. I've been looking at ways to put minerals back in the water that's healthy and make the water more alkaline but haven't found a solution. So now I just drink Spring water instead of filtered water. Deer Park tested to be neutral while most bottle waters tend to be on the acidic side. At least that I tested. Again, I have no idea if it matters.
That is some interesting points Dwayne. I can't say I know much about it but thanks for bringing it up. Something new to research! I do agree that if we could all just drink fresh spring water we wouldn't have to worry about filtering it!
I wanted to buy one but they are so expensive and after reading all the bad reviews on amazon it kinda scared me as about 85% are unhappy with theirs. A lot of the complaints are bout the filters. Kinda strange that you mention the brita filters are bad also. Sounds like they are sourcing them out to unreliable companys.
The Berkey makes sense for us. Maybe 50 packs(24) of water if they cost 5 bucks. (249/5=49.8) So like 1,200 bottles x 16.9 oz is 20,280oz then divided by 128oz is about 158 gallons. That's about 80 days of drinking water for us instead of 5.5 years. Each Black Berkey filter is supposed to be good for 3000 gallons.
@@IreneIronTravels you understand that the berkey filter starts growing bacteria the second it gets wet and there is no way I would drink the water it makes after month 2 on the filter. So 5 years on a filter is a bad idea. Btw your math is flawed unless you are drinking 15 bottles a day. Who pays $5 for a 24 pack.......no one. I rarely pay more than 2 or 3 dollars.
Jerry G aren't you concerned about all the plastic consumption and waste from purchasing 24 packs of bottled water? Are you confident that the company profiting from bottling water is checking for over 200 contaminants and bacteria? Bottles of water often just come from someone else's tap water. (See Nestle Corp/Michigan) Everyone needs to do their best to have clean drinking water. Our approaches may not be the same.
That's a good way to do it for sure. The Berkey is just an easier option for some to get good water filtration without any installation. Projects are always tough on the road especially when you are living in it and don't have all the tools you need.
I'm not entirely clear. Do you use water from your fresh water tank for drinking, cooking, etc., filtering it through your Berkey first? Or do you bring all your drinking water aboard from other sources, filter it through your Berkey, and only use the tank water for bathing, hand washing, use of that nature. And, either way, what's your method to treat/sanitize your fresh water tank?
Because our fresh tank is only 26 gallons we bring on a extra 12 gallons of water to extend our dry camping stays. So to keep things simple for the week we drink from the 12 gallons till it runs out (usually 6ish days) and then we drink from the tank. The tank water then is mostly for showering, washing dishes & hands, and the toilet. We don't really cook with water, but if we need it for something we would use the Berkey water. All water goes through a RV hose style filter and then the drinking water gets filtered a second time in the Berkey. We haven't bleached or sanitized the RV fresh tank, but we do flush it with water and completely drain it out.
@@IreneIronTravels Thanks for responding. I own an Interstate too (not a full-timer), and I've been avoiding drinking water from the fresh water tank, using what I bring on instead. Some say the potable coach tank is acceptable to drink, others say no. Your practice, filtering when filling the tank and filtering again with the Berkey, sounds good to me. Thanks again.
I totally get the confusion and both sides of the argument. I always think back to being a kid and drinking from random warm garden hoses in the summer time. Before bpa was a thing! As a precaution I would go with the RV Geeks method of tank sanitization.. with a bleach water mixture a couple times a year. After all they've been fulltim, ing for two decades! Thanks for watching Tim!

Hey Jason, thanks for watching! That's great you and your wife are planning to get on the road this summer. Exciting and we're glad we can help!
Berkey needs to design an RV suitable unit. Specifically, more square and with tie down loops.
Now we're talking! They would sell thousands!😀
I agree, I am not on the road yet, but having something I could incorporate into the water system would be a plus.
Thanks for info! I’ve had a 2.5 g Berkey at home since Jan 2020! Love the water. I just bought 1 for my B RV. Now I know how to travel with it! Thanks

When you travel turn the top chamber upside down and it slides into the bottom chamber making it nearly 1/2 the height.
That's right, forgot about that! They shipped it that way from the factory. We have water in ours constantly for drinking and our moves are generally short, but that would work for sure! Thanks!

I have a travel Berkeley. I love it.

If you get a chance, I would love to see what your residential sink/Berkey setup looks like. My husband was interested! 😃
Great video!! We got our Big Berkey because we spend a lot of time in Arizona where they have arsenic in the water! We are currently in a park where each site has a reverse osmosis system because the water is so bad. Besides the black filters you can get the white arsenic filters and use them for extra protection. Try it. 🙂
Thanks for sharing your setup and thanks for the tip. We'll try it!
We live in a house and we have a Burkey..We would buy a lot of bottled water but now we use the Berkey and love it
Nice 👌 It totally makes sense and is a great move away from bottle water!
I love my Berkey. In my B + I have the same trouble as you do. So I do what you do.
It works!
Great to hear your Berkey is giving you years of service! Good to know they last. Thanks for watching!
BS & BK
Glad you enjoyed it Larry! Thanks for watching, appreciate it! BS & BK😀
Good to know, thanks John. Appreciate hearing your experience with it!
In addition, we purchased a couple of filter bags (Lot of 2 x 1 Micron 7"x16" Singed Polyester Felt Filter Bag PESP1S Size 1)
to pre-filter silt, algae, etc. should we ever need to use water from a lake, creek or river...figured that it could help keep from gumming up the Berkey filters.
We really wanted to be able to fit a bigger one in here like the Big Berkey, but the Travel Berkey turned out to be a perfect size. Good tip on the pre filter bags, thanks!
Ty for this video, guys:) our Travel Berkey just came in 3 days ago:) fall in love with drinking water to stay away from maintenance medicine.
That is awesome! Thanks for watching!
So funny. When I first started my investigation into full time life, the Berkey was one of the first things I researched and decided I must have it ! Haha
🤣 its sooooo true!!
Well that would seal the deal! Too funny and I'm glad it's k9 approved!🐶Thanks!
I love my Burkey!
First thing I bought

It is a must! EVERYONE needs a Berkey😂 Thanks JJ!
Yes, it totally makes sense for some kind of water filtration setup! Appreciate you watching, thanks!
Love your video thanks!
If your Berkey fits under the counter, how about installing it with the spout over the sink for filling your glasses?
Have a great day☀️ Sonja
Great video Chris....Aaron, nice job too 😆 Safe travels.
She is pretty good!😂😂 I'm just here for the tech support. Thanks for watching!
@@IreneIronTravels just kidding. 🤣 You guys put out great content. My wife and I just started Vanlife, only part time. We have extensive RV experience but Vanlife is a different animal. We have picked up some great tips from your videos. Thank you and take care.
Another great video. Keep up the quality of your videos, they're very helpful and informative.
Thank you! Appreciate you watching!
i just bought the big berkey for home and was planning on carrying it every time we leave in the rv.
At long last, the Berkey vid!!!
Long overdue! 😂😂💦💦
Thanks for the heads up on the Berkey.
Just added it to my list.
Who's Irene?
Thanks for watching Tony!
Who IS Irene 🤐🙊🙋
It is commonly overlooked.... we did it too! Oh, well now its on the list of quarterly things to clean.😂 Thanks for sharing your setup!
Good idea on using the Berkey. I would also consider placing the Berkey in a plastic bin while in transit. Drinking water as I watch your video.🤓
👍😊
Awesome info.... i will clean the filters in ours asap.... !!!
You'll be happy you did! Thanks for watching!
They are totally worth it in our opinion. And then there's the Mad Max scenario of course! 😂😂
Thx for the important & practical information
Our pleasure!
Right on!
@@IreneIronTravels Exactly! The water always tastes so good. Worth every penny.
@@IreneIronTravels I live in southern AZ (south of Tucson) and we have very hard water (high calcium content) which effects the water quality.
You must be a Jay-Z fan! 😁 Thanks for the review, very helpful!
I am!! I've always been into hip hop. Thanks for watching - Chris
How do you handle laundry? Just laundromats?
Yes, laundromats and also campgrounds, rv parks, and sometimes friends and fam!
We have a Big Berkey. Great size for home and for taking in the RV. I hope you explained the banana hammock to Chris.
Nice 👌 big Berkey! Yup, Chris learned something new that day. 🤣😅🤣
Glad it was helpful! Yes, lots of great information in the comments. We love learning from it too!
Much love. Rab
Hey Rab 👋
Thanks for writing in! All good advice, appreciate it!
Love the berkie. You should check out how to clean the filters so it can last...
It is great! I think we followed Berkley's instructions and they should last us about 5 years, but I think we might replace them sooner.
Great info! I’m very picky about how the water tastes as I grew up with Lake Michigan water.
Thanks! Taste is important! We noticed it right away the first time we used it.
Wait... You can clean your filters rather than replace them? Does your water get warm? I like a bit cooler water to drink.

Great video guys! I always wondered about this Berkey thing :o)
Thanks for watching!😀
Another great video! Thanks for the info.
Thanks for watching!
I heard the berky from another itinerary Robin with creatively Rv.
She's good!
Thanks for the great video on the how toos!!! Could you use a solution of vinegar and water to clean the outside of the filter?
Do y’all filter the water w one of those blue filters before it comes into the Rv? And do u ever use water from the Rv faucets in your Berkey’s?
Yes, we do filter all water once with a RV water filter amzn.to/3nkkk1n and then we filter all drinking water with the Berkey. We do fill it from the fresh water tank from the faucet!
Can I put water from the lake in here to make it drinkable?
I've heard you can.......but we've never tried it!
Great video on the berkey. Looks like a awesome product. We have a 100 gallon fresh water tank. We are using a britax system. Thanks Don
A 100 gallons whoa! That's awesome, glad you have a water system in place!
They need to make one specifically for fitting in an RV cabinet.
That would be cool!

@@IreneIronTravels Great Videos ! Keep it up
Instead of double stick tape, have you considered heavy duty command strips with large hooks with some sort of bungee to hold your Berkey on the counter during travel?
That could defiantly work! I think if we did one strap for the bottom chamber and one for the top it would hold. Especially if it was mostly empty.
@@IreneIronTravels Glad I could be of help!

👉🚐👍 So if I follow correctly you get water wherever you are and put in your water bags to use from there? 🤔
You can reduce the height of the Berkey by almost 50% by turning the top chamber upside down and insert it into the bottom chamber.
That's right, forgot about that! They shipped it that way from the factory. We have water in ours constantly for drinking and our moves are generally short, but that would work for sure! 😊 🙏
Hey, a quick question, how much water to you guys drink on the road, thanks
We go through about 2 gallons of water per day for the both of us. That is for drinking water and coffee.
Where can I buy black filters without pay $150 !!!
Please help. I bought a used one off mrktplace and it came with white ceramics
Yes the Berkey brand are expensive but last for many years! You can try the $60 generic brand but I don't know anything about them. Looks like they are a direct fit replacement, amzn.to/3fUlc7T
I put my berkey in the sink while traveling in my class B. Except the one time I forgot. Horrible mess!
You didn’t show how to prime the filters. Is it hard? I’ve been looking at getting a Berkey but the priming looks difficult. Any hints?

Excellent info.
Thanks for watching!
They don’t ship this product to CA. Do you know why? We are sold on this for our drinking water and will have to pick up in another state.... 🙁 when we hit the road.
That is interesting. I just read it has to do with CA lead free regulations and the stainless steel Berkeys don't comply. They can ship the plastic one. Here's the article www.berkeywaterfilter.com/product-category/berkey-california-approved/?doing_wp_cron=1612488683.1094110012054443359375

You said "grab some toilet paper and get a berkey" that was Funny! 😅
😂
Great topic! Can you store it in your kitchen sink during travel and just prop it up so it does not tip?
The rv sink is pretty shallow, but someone commented they replaced their sink with a deeper one and store the Berkey in that!
OMG I just heard some say "It's the BEES NEES" ! That's an old saying.........yes I might be old! Thomyt
Yup, she said it! Don't know where she got it from🤣😂
I was convinced we don’t need a Berkey, but now after seeing your filters, ewww.....
Berkey adds PPMs to your water, it is banned in California, what exactly toxic chemicals is it shedding in the water ???/
We really love ours!
THANK YOU 🙏 , VERY INFORMATIVE . IM SOLD 🏄♂️🤙
Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching!
Nice thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Berkey doesn't remove nitrates and I don't think Nitrites either... Only filter that will truly remove everything is a quality RO filter.
I heard that as well. A built in RO system would be pretty cool!
How many 24 packs of water can you buy for the amount that berkey cost.....and then storing it.
Why not install a water filtration for the entire rv? That's what I'm gonna do - install a system under the sink and call it a day
That's a good way to do it for sure. The Berkey is just an easier option for some to get good water filtration without any installation. Projects are always tough on the road especially when you are living in it and don't have all the tools you need.
@@IreneIronTravels oh they are tough when not traveling also lmao especially plumbing in rv - thanks - that makes more sense now.
Yes 👏
💦😃👍
Do some research on the Berkey. It's not all they claim.
I thought irene was your wife!! She is ripped
She is! Christine Irene! It's her middle name and also a family name we named our business after.
