I came in as a transfer and I loved it. While making friends on the dorm is a good avenue, I'd say don't fully rely on that. There's plenty of avenues within the university to make great friends. Whatever interests you have, you will make some friends there. I was in club sports and still carry a few of my teammates with me through life.
