  • In the Gǒuquán 狗拳 style, the dog style, there is an important repertoire of technical ground fighting. In particular, this combination of three basic techniques is common in many Nan Quan styles from southern China and also in the Vietnamese Chinese Dragon style taught in our school. These are techniques also present in modern Wu Shu, but athletes often have no idea how they can be applied.

This is real groundfighting! I'm so happy to see it. Not that anaconda style that's killing martial arts.

This is what most ground fighting looks like in Chinese styles. I think it's different from what is practiced in Japanese native arts

This is really interesting and these are useful/effective. I've always liked grappling as a sport and as technical martial arts. In jiu jitsu and most forms of wrestling these basic concepts shown here would be a couple really interesting sweeps and then some equally interesting ankle/knee picks. Also that break fall takedown into the "crocodile" is something I haven't seen before and from my jiu jitsu experience I'm pretty certain it will just work well if set up right. These were some interesting takes on basic effective/real world grappling concepts that work well against untrained and high level fighters. Thank you!

Yes, this work, characteristic of the South China Dog style, is very interesting. I know it has also developed in other martial arts. 🙏🏽

@@DanteBasili I find it interesting how different grappling systems that are actually effective end up with the same or very similar basic concepts. The fact that many arts have so many common points tells me that some of these are just basic ways of how the body moves that are relevant to grappling. Just as an example, the arm drag is a really basic grappling technique that many different arts have very similar versions of that same basic technique. Then I like to see the points where things differ based on different experiences and cultures. To me, those spots where they are different are the most interesting like the sweeps, knee/ankle picks and that break fall takedown are different in some interesting ways from things I've seen before but also similar enough that I can immediately tell that they are effective useful and that I want to try these in jiu jitsu because people won't see it coming at first.

    Hola.

Very interesting! My only problem is that done on a hard floor, as you are doing it, could cause injuries. Of course if done on a mat you could not rotate so smoothly, a trade of is necessary. Please careful with the falls, specially with the knees. Cheers

this is lovely thanks for sharing.
i am working on similar stuff, based off of my liu bin bagua zhang movements.
so much of it can be translated onto the ground, also going to ground, working on ground, then getting back up fluidly and functionally.
good example of ground work and an older guy whos still alive and growing in the art.

So I am applying with my legs the same concept used with my arms thats used to apply an arm bar on the hinge joint of the arm but without silk reeling against the hinge joint of the leg? At the bottom part are you hitting the muscle/ tendon between the heel and beginning of the calf? It looks like it. From the sweat on your shirt sir, vigorous exercise as you say compared to Tai Apps. Thank you I can see how that is going to work the abdominals.
