Always interested in Czech, Hungarian, ? citizenship as my grandmother was from the Austrian Hungarian empire and came to the US in 1912-13. The problem for me is the family name changes with every document. It is Kiscler, Kislok, Kizlock, Kisler on different documents from census to Soc Sec etc. records and no known city they lived in so no way to check the city records, Ellis island records etc... Family said she was from Budapest but a couple census's showed Czech as language and country of origin but no one is still living and no luck narrowing it down.

Hello and thanks for your enquiry! It does sound like a difficult situation to navigate though - if you would like us to assess your case and see if there is anything we can do on our end, please email us at citizenship@polaron.com.au

My understanding is unless your parents came from the Czech Republic and not from the Slovak Republic unless they declared in 1993 that they wanted Czech recognition you do not qualify for Czech citizenship. Is this correct?

Hi! The process for Czech citizenship is, fortunately, more complicated than that. We need to see the whole picture to be able to assess the case. The fact that they didn't declare Czech recognition does not automatically disqualify them! Feel free to contact us at citizenship@polaron.com.au for more information
