I'm an American that has lived in different countries. Most people have an opinion similar to this video. Some try to be open minded. Some even agree with the American lifestyle. When they ask my opinion, I tell them usa is a land of extremes. There is no balanced lifestyle. I have lived in third world countries that have taken out my appendix for free, for example, but I cannot expect this in usa. No one can.
Sure I am grateful (platitude) for having the opportunity to work but if I were sincere I wish I could speak Danish or something and live over there. I appreciate Nordic behavior much more than the ghetto of usa lol
I am not "proud" to be an American. But I am proud of my last name. My home education.
I am from Maine in the US but lived in the black hills of SD recently and that is a region that has the most people of Norwegian descent so I have begun to think about Norway and feel that it is a cool culture
USA and yea we're a backsliding democracy with large pockets of third world standard of living on top of third world healthcare access, rising inflation, and stagnant wages. half the country supports the terrorist republican party that is successfully rolling back women's rights, waging war on the middle class, and keeping everyone poor while they enrich themselves whilst pointing the finger at minorities as the problem. meanwhile they support their corporate CEO friends that ship all the jobs overseas.
I am from the USA. It is a breath of fresh air to hear impressions of my own country reflected back to me from The Norwegians. Each one is kind, thoughtful and forthright in their own way. I must say what was discussed of the sense of separation and lack of unity and community in America hits home. I would be nice to know that my government had my best interests at heart and would take care of me if I fell onto hard times. This channel provides such a candid and detailed perspective in both videos you have shared so far. Keep it up!

Norway is a super small country and is on par with americans, their judgements are justified, no school shootings and mass murders in norway except for the one time with Anders behring breivik, plus america is really corrupt and bash conservatism like crazy. Healthcare costs so much money, in norway its free. In america You literally have to pay to Get a treatment for an illness you didint choose to Get, so Yeah no americans are not smarter than Norwegians. You’re clearly just offended
The beauty of America is built by immigrants with freedom and entrepreneurship. That's why US still attracts so many talented individuals across the world in every sector of job market.
Of course, if we were to ask each and one of them if they absolutely like US, they will say no and mention about things like healthcare issues and political stuff. But, US is still such a beautiful country for those who want to achieve great things in life!

Actually, there were many immigrants in the US from Norway.
There were about 5 millions of Norwegian immigrants in the US. They mostly lived in Minnesota.
It sounds like most Norwegian people have a relative in the US. So that's the relationship between Norway and USA.

Americans of Norwegian descendent may have concentrated in the upper midwest originally, but overtime have spread out as other ethnic groups have to other states.

I think the two on the red benches and the girl standing with the tall guy are very prejudice and arrogant. The tall guy was the only one that understands that US is a huge country and most of us do not have the same beliefs. I live in the North East. NE Americans and Permanent Residents are vastly different from those living in the South or the Midwest. Minnesota, although there are a lot of cultural groups living there, is still not as diverse as NYC or LA.
I think USA is in a very bad shape except Aspen , Beverly hills etc. The people very chatty but naiv and badly educated. Healthcare is a biggest disaster there. In an european prison you got better care than in the States. Good healthcare only available for rich people in USA. I met few years ago Chris Gardner in a hotel in Ireland, obviously he is a smart and well informed individual. He started from powetry level to skyhigh. I think most of americans live in a nightmare callled Matrix. Two party delusional fake world were you think you have choices. But not. Philantropist controll the country like Soros, Gates, Clintons, Buffet, Zuckerberg, Blackrock. They controll above the law the entire ecosystem. They live on taxpayers money. They pump the money out of national budget to private sector through military, healthcare, banking circles. California, Virginia, and few other States already lost, just before Z-War( fentanol, homelessness issues). You must stand up. They pushed down on your throat: Vietnam, coldwar, Moonlandings, Saddam as enemy, 9/11, 2008 crisis,Russia as enemy, Afganistan, Syria, now Nato expansion(Ukraine vs Russia war) by USA. Time to wake up , few months left before dollar collapses. 50 trillion national debt is mad.
NE Americans and LA Americans have some good ones and some bad ones, as does the South.
They're just like anyone else who doesn't get out much. Most Americans would spout similar opinions of others, I think.

I spent some time in your lovely country in the early 90s while I was in the US Military. I was impressed by how clean your country was and how friendly everybody in the Norwegian Army was to our troops. I believe you might get a different set of opinions from those who have interacted with our military. Anyhow, I have nothing but positive memories from my time in Norway.

I am a South Korean living and working in US. I moved here from Korea for my college study and ended up settling in here with a better career option and now have my own family.
I am immensely thankful for the country when it comes to giving me opportunities and great places where my future generation can learn and grow.
With that being said, I used to work in Europe prior to Covid (i.e., Netherlands, UK, Germany). The one thing I noticed by talking to loads of people in and out of office in Europe is that people from Nothern Europe do not tend to really relate the concept of capitalism and how that very concept has served as an economic engine for the country. I am well aware that the growth/size of a country is not equivalent to quality of life in the country. But, the growth of the sheer economic size does also indicate there are folks in the country who benefit from that wave. That tends to be the case for those who want to achieve great things in life with work ethic and entrepreneurship. I mean after all, there's gotta be a reason why US has been attracting very talented individuals across the world in very much every sector of job market and if we were to look at a list of top 10 market caps, many are US-based firms.
I am not negligent about negative aspects of US such as healthcare and gun issues. But. I wanted to just tell you all that it's still a beautiful country and there's a reason to it :).

The problem is media, and its hyper magnifying on a select few kinds of people that exist in the USA. Which makes people who've never been think most americans might be like that. I've lived here some years and have been surprised at some of the things people believe about Americans lol. I think many people think of the stereotypical Texan when they think of Americans (not a shock since Texas has been adopted into the Norwegian language as a slang word for crazy/insane/huge/radical etc)
I'm an American, when I travel to different countries and they ask me, I tell them "USA is a land of extremes, it is hard to find balance"
That's my opinion of America. You slave at work to probably never own a home. You're either far right or far left. Not many are Independant like myself.

I have friends in Kristiansand and Arendal, Norway, I have been there three times so far, and I can say the life in Norway is the UBER 1st world. It puts it all into perspective. America is definitely dwindling, it still has a lot of great parts that remind you of how well you have it in life (I was in countries recently like Dominican Republic and Cuba), but I can definitely say Norway is the reigning champion of FIRST Worldness. You're right about the selfish part. When we see bad things happen to other people, we figure out how to make sure that doesn't happen to us. I even heard a radio advertising life insurance. It started with a couple talking about how her sister-in-law's brother died, leaving his wife and children with bills, forcing them to declare bankruptcy. Rather than try to help, the couple said how important it was for they themselves to get life insurance. LOL

I think and truly believe we are self centered by nature as Americans. We’re naturally taught in school about our countries origins but not necessarily individual nations cultures. Vehicles like for a small example sports (I’m more hockey oriented so I could talk all day about Sweden Finland Norwegian hockey players) are just sadly ways we learn about other countries. We’re such small fish in a massive pond. I’ve always been fond of Nordic countries for how much citizens are so open to talk about America and have all the right to criticize us. We’re by no means perfect but I think commpeople like myself are open and just generally cool.

Wrong Question - India and Indians cannot be categorised into one. It is diverse, almost like Europe. Indians don't even look, dress, eat, speak similar. India is a land of extremes. From cleanest beach to dirtiest beach, from greenery fresh air to suffocating pollution, from cleanest cities to garbage filled towns, from richest people in world to poorest people, from smartest doctors engineers to scam doctors and engineers, from loudest people to softest spoken, from most nationalistic and religious people to most secular and critical (patriotic), from most kind, friendliest and helpful to most dangerous, from funniest to overly sensitive, from hardly populated mountain valleys to over populated hill stations. Native American here, this video was so true. I loved all the honest commentary here, and it's great how rational and yet still empathetic Norwegians are. One of the reasons i adore my Norwegian boyfriend. That said, Taylor Swift and Beyonce are definitely flying everywhere in there private jets and are some of the worst offenders flying merely across towns when they can just take a car instead. Just gotta point that little detail out.

Can they say hello and Thank you in more than 3 languages? Can they cook different dishes from different cultures. Play music. Solve differential equations? I was born in Hollywood, grew in Southern California, then Chicago, now Texas. I think a big difference is in America there is such a distrust of government that you don’t see in Europe, you have better welfare in Norway and can better implement those kind of programs because you have a much smaller and homogeneous population. The US is so diverse and the government is so corrupt and inefficient that those programs will never work here and I think that generally leads to the attitude of being obsessed with work and money because it’s much more on you to be secure financially. I imagine that makes life much simpler and less stressful for the average Norwegian vs American.

The same IQ test does not necessarily work across different societies. As for the comparative IQs between Americans and Norwegians, the difference is minute and nothing to brag about. I'm an American and my IQ is much higher than any of these averages. The results seem racist to me and that is why I question the methods used to derive the results.

As an American this video pisses me off. Nobody knows better than I do the difficulties we are dealing with in the USA right now. We are a land of extremes in every sense, and never more so than right now, especially politically. For the record, I and the majority of Americans can't stand Donald Trump, but unfortunately there are still a great many of my countrymen who do support him. As a huge multiethnic country we have to do the best we can to bridge the large philosophical, regional, cultural and political divides just in order to govern our nation. It's not easy. But the Norwegians commenting in this video don't seem to have an understanding of that fact, possibly because Norway is a small homogeneous country blessed with abundant and lucrative natural resources. Norwegians may follow the law of Jante as individuals, but collectively they seem to celebrate a view of Norway's manifest superiority, at least as compared to the United States. While largely ignoring all the beneficial things the United States contributes to the world, exponentially beyond anything Norway has produced.
Quite frankly with all the crap we have to deal with in the United States right now, it does not help to be disrespected and looked down upon by one of our supposed friends and allies. Maybe I should start informing my fellow Americans of the low regard in which they are held by many of the citizens of Norway. Perhaps that will begin to change their view of Norwegians. We will see.

From USA but have traveled extensively, know European geography (so what?) and am not extreme either way in my politics. I found it interesting one group said Americans are self centered yet they admit they stick to their own group. Mistrusting your government is a basic right here, after all the country started a Revolution to remove a government. Norwegians are used to being subservient to a king or another country like Denmark or Sweden. Capitalist not socialist? Thank God for that, yet they fail to see that there are socialistic themes here. It's not like the 1800's anymore.

Norwegians got it about Americans. I'm American and the way this country has become devastates me. I'm very aware of the narcissism of Americans and how little they know about the rest of the world, how they think the universe centers around them. I can empathize with the loudness and being obnoxious because I live in a ski town and see how Americans behave when they go on vacation. They behave in ways they would never behave in their home towns. The culture here is very far right and we're heading toward autocracy if the Democrats don't win in elections in 2024. The Republican Party lies about everything. Our Supreme Court, the highest court in the U.S., is corrupt with six right-wing justices, we only have three justices that are fair. The corruption everywhere is staggering. I never thought the U.S. would be like this. The woman who said she is a fan of Bernie Sanders doesn't have clue about anything if believes Minnesota is conservative. Moreover, there isn't anyone more arrogant than a socialist. A socialist believes in taking hard earned money away from one person and giving it to another. That is true arrogance. Socialism may work in a nation smaller than New York City, but it wouldn't work in a nation of 330 million.
Finally, I hope that Norway enjoys the protection provided by the "arrogant" Americans. It's easy to sit back and speak badly about the US when you having someone else protecting you. Sweden and Finland had the same anti-American mindset until Russia invaded Ukraine. Then they came running to be protected by the "fat" Americans.

It was fascinating to hear the one guy say he didn't like Americans' mistrust of government. He probably also doesn't know that in the 20th century alone, governments killed over 130 million of their OWN people. He should also know that a government that gives you everything you need can also take everything you have. True independence is earning your own way and being beholden to no man...or government.
