People cannot be that ignorant to believe what they see in movies and television as a true reflection of what the U.S. is. Worldwide, everyone understands parody. The U.S. is just waking up to the fact that our foods for the most part, are banned in Europe and for good reason, there is nothing healthy in our foods. They are for the most part either full of carcinogens or are high carb. Since Europe has adopted our foods and pharmaceuticals, we Americans will now not be the only worldwide lab rats in obesity and long-term health issues. We are backing away from processed foods and drive-thru foods, while Europe is embracing it. Good luck. Why was Trump elected? We were tired of lifetime-politicians gaming the system. Our politicians are as corrupt as any third world nation. Our media is as corrupt as any third world nation. Europeans calling Americans lazy - that's rich, since we generally have a later retirement age, less maternity leave and on average we only have12 days of vacation - that includes sick days. 60% of Americans do not have passports, because we don't have the luxury of travel time and or money to make use of a passport and we can travel the length and breadth of Europe in our own country without a passport. Because of our corrupt politicians this country has stuck its nose where it shouldn't have, and we've helped rebuild and defend (asking nothing in return) Europeans that are so ungrateful to the point they hate Americans? As far as learning a new language, how many languages would you like us to learn? From the beginning of migration (we are a nation of migrants), on the concept "we should learn to speak the language", we would have learned Irish, German, French, Portuguese, Cantonese, Spanish, Arabic, Sudanese, you name it, we would need to learn it. Historically, all of our ancestors had to learn the national language. But I digress, that was when migrants came to a new nation and assimilated, grateful to have shelter from starvation and persecution, silly me!

The Dutch have been slave traders since ***the 1500s***, and were SO atrocious that only 3 (MUCH larger) countries traded more human flesh of innocent men, women, and children than the tiny Netherlands. Not only were your sheer numbers horrendous - especially for your size - your treatment of slaves was considered particularly vicious, even by the British.
They lost their entire country to the Nazis in only five days and then spent the rest of the war cowering and fornicating with Nazis. While AMERICA was BY FAR the largest and strongest force killing those same Nazis and running them out of Europe.

I'm an American 🇺🇸 and I loved this video! I agree with many if not all the things they have said about America and us Americans. We and I are loud, obese, and don't know too much of what goes on outside of the US. Looking at our news I see a lot about mass shootings, gun violence, and politics. But I do not own a gun, have never been arrested, and where I live it's relatively safe. I especially loved what they said about Trump, they just said his name as if to say that's a force within himself. Lol 😆 I feel as if America is more divided now more than ever thanks to Trump. And this whole Migrant crisis we have been having is making things worse imo. Again, I loved this video and appreciate their honesty. ❤

      Perhaps, quite a brunt assessment.
Frankly, these people hit every deep negative stereotype which is a little shocking, but I question their perspective based on second-hand information on what they hear and conceptualize vs. actually traveling to America and formulating their own opinion. I took notice of the one guy who said he's been to America, so I respect that.
It could also be counterbalanced with videos of Europeans who live three to six months or more and travel the entire US to gain more perspective.
The same goes for Americans gaining perspective across all the countries of Europe and discovering and appreciating their intricacies.
It seems those who take time to visit have a more positive outlook on America (and Europe) in general. As an American, I would feel bad for any tourist or visitor who makes a full assessment based on a short trip to a single area like NYC or LA, which really is in its own bubble. Each region and state is completely different, and yields different perspectives, cultures, accents and more.
I hope more people soften up and gain more first-hand perspective on life and experience in other places, and yes, it goes both ways.

The interviewer should ask what they think about the 8,000+ American soldiers buried on Dutch soil and the 1700+ American soldiers missing in action who died liberating the Netherlands. Or about the hundreds of US aircrews who risked their lives to drop food supplies to the starving Dutch citizens during the "Hongerwinter." It is ironic that those aspects of America are so easily forgotten by the Dutch and sadly only the negative aspects of America have left an impression.
Its okay to put down America, we have many faults, but remember there is also good in America...there are 8000+ examples of that goodness lying in the ground at Margraten.

This is what pisses me off about Americans. Your country joined the wars late- BOTH of them- and only joined when AMERICA felt that there was a chance AMERICAN safety would be compromised. America didn't join the wars to fight for US Europeans. If they did, if America cared, they wouldn't have waited until millions of Europeans were slaughtered, our cities bombed, our governments economically draind and armies struggling before making the first move. Being out for your own is fine, just don't make it out that you were selfless liberators who did it solely for us because you didn't.

    • @dfdf-rj8jr
      @dfdf-rj8jr 4 місяці тому +9

@@wondertyzipp8260 This doesn't change the fact that without America, the Netherlands would be speaking German or Russian. Stalin said himself that without American aid, Hitler would have won the war. And after World War II, the Soviets wanted every last piece of Europe, and they would've gotten it had the USA not stepped in.
Because the Cold War was won decisively, Europeans forget how close it really was. There is only one country that could protect the world from Soviet influence (whether it did so for its own interest, or to help, or both), and because of the selfish Americans, the Netherlands did not end up like Poland, Hungary, Romania or the other countries that endured Soviet rule.
Here's a simple question for you. If the US really carries NATO for its own self-interest, then why did Europeans start panicking when Trump threatened to leave? Why don't they leave, to escape the selfish US?
Let's be real - you hate us, our society, and our culture. And many Americans, myself included, don't want to pay for the defense of people that hate us. And if NATO is just in our self interest - if we're doing it to save ourselves - then you should have no problem with us leaving, right?

@ThetaSigmaTheOriginal The problem with Europeans is that they act as if Americans should be more like Europeans.
The US is on the other side of the globe, and it's much easier for a person from France to go to another country than the US. Most Latin America is unstable , countries with crap economies, or there's Canada. The US Mexico border is the most economically lopsided border in the world, whereas Europe has similar economies with their neighbors. Truth is that the US is beating Europe technology and economically. While our population is growing, Europe's is declining.
No country in the near future is taking over the UScplace in the near future as China has peaked, India has way too many problems, and Russia, like China, has a declining population.
Also, our land plays à big role in or continued success. At worst, we share world power with another nation. I just don't see one coming anytime soon.

But Europeans seem to be bit obsessed about the USA until they come here (a German friend of mine visited here and was amazed by the nature, amazing Universities and the ability to own big houses and the vastness of the suburbs) and like seeing what's possible. My uncle from London said the quality of life you get in the US for the price isn't possible anywhere else (like people own huge farmlands and every middle class person can own land if they wish to). The US has a lot of negatives but the positives seem to only be understood when experienced and lived.

No one is bitter or obsessed about the US. This thinking is exactly the superiority people feel the US has. Of course there are many positives and negatives in any country. When people are asked this, they have to think quickly so the obvious comes to mind. Compared to the quality of life in Europe, US isn't as great as other countries. But people in the Netherlands are envious of owning more land. We are a tiny country with a lot of density, so land is expensive. I personally like American people in general, very warm people who care a lot about their communities. The civil society there is wonderful. And of course the creativity: music and film industry.

This video actually says more about Dutch people than Americans or America. @hunchbackaudio said it well. The Dutch are known for their lack of filter. Dutch people are brutally honest and straightforward, which is a euphemistic way of saying that they cab be very critical and negative.
I have often been in situations, personally and professionally, where Dutch people laid out all the ways something is wrong or could go wrong. When I asked, "Okay, so can we figure out a way to [get it done]?", there would often be silence or "Het is niet mogelijk", which means "That is not possible". That response is the antithesis of the American way of thinking.
Interesting fact, while it's true that many Americans are indeed obese, the U.S. isn't in the top 10 for BMI index. In fact, it's 20. That's still not good, but the stereotype is a bit more hyped up than is actually true.

I partly agree. The Dutch have a lack of filters but I think that has both benefits and drawbacks the former of which you don't mention - it does promote honesty. Most Dutch people are good people that have no bad intentions whatsoever. If you ask them something they will answer you exactly as they see it, which personally I appreciate. That said, I'm aware of the downside as well, some people can be overly crude and as a result come across or be disrespectful. This in my experience is a minority though. I do agree however that Americans overall have a more entrepreneurial spirit.

Indeed. They are very insular and aren't aware that most of the world has an awful opinion of the Dutch due to the immorality of their historical and sometimes current character of their contacts all over the world.
I also find a lot are not even aware how relatively tiny their country is or how poor it would have been without the exploitation of other people and their resources. Or either they pretend to be. I'm not sure which is worse.
A lot of European countries are about to find that sad truth. The real regret should be thinking about what the positive possibilities would have been today if instead of abject exploitation they had developed territories with mutual respect and actually happily given them independence with a developing middle class and created a strong market and purveyor of resources with a dedicated feeling of loyalty and gratitude towards the Dutch.
That was the missed opportunity of all European countries. They knew better, in terms of the basics tenants of ethics and past contact, than to trade in inferiority politics but they did it anyway.

The relentless wave of criticism towards America, proliferating across social media platforms, emanates not just from elite circles but from the voices of ordinary Europeans. This constant barrage of disapproval is marked by its intensity and ubiquity, reaching Americans through the pervasive nature of digital connectivity. As everyday Europeans express their discontent, often with stark candor, it paints a picture of deep-seated disdain rather than mere disagreement. This unyielding stream of criticism is not lost on the American populace, which is increasingly coming to perceive these sentiments as reflective of a broader European consensus.
The pervasive nature of these critiques, coupled with their often harsh and dismissive tone, is leading many Americans to believe that the sentiment in Europe goes beyond simple policy disagreements or cultural misunderstandings. Instead, it's fostering a perception that there is a fundamental and widespread European animosity towards America. This perception is being fed and amplified by the immediacy and emotional charge of social media interactions, where hyperbolic and vehement expressions often gain the most visibility.
As these negative portrayals of America circulate widely and frequently, the impact goes beyond hurt feelings or diplomatic irritations. It's prompting a serious reconsideration of the transatlantic relationship among the American public. The idea that Europe may not just be critical but fundamentally antagonistic is stirring a debate about the merit, extent, and nature of America's involvement in European affairs. In the face of this relentless criticism, it's not far-fetched for Americans to contemplate a future where they might significantly reduce or even sever their ties with Europe, should they feel their partnership is undervalued or outright rejected.
This scenario underscores the profound effect that public sentiment, especially when amplified through social media, can have on international relationships. It highlights the need for constructive, moderated dialogue to bridge misunderstandings and temper the growing divide. As the criticisms continue unabated, the urgency for such dialogue only intensifies, with the hope of mitigating the rising tensions and fostering a mutual understanding that transcends the current wave of discontent.

@@CultureCompassTV To begin with, Europe's delicate geopolitical situation is underscored by significant demographic changes. The average total fertility rate across Europe is below 1.5, indicating a rapidly aging population that will likely necessitate substantial welfare reforms. In France, a particularly notable shift is occurring within its Muslim population, currently at 17% and rising, with a fertility rate that suggests it may become a Muslim-majority country within the next couple of decades. This demographic shift is critical, considering France's status as a nuclear-armed nation. Such a profound change in the demographic makeup of a key ally will compel America to reassess its transatlantic ties and strategies.
Understanding Tipping Point Theory, it's evident that it won't require the Muslim population reaching an absolute majority to start having profound effects on France's broader cultural and geostrategic aspects. Well before reaching a majority, this growing demographic can influence national policies, cultural norms, and international relations. The nearing of such a critical threshold suggests that the impact on France's identity, internal cohesion, and external alliances will become increasingly significant, urging both European and American policymakers to adopt early and adaptive responses to these evolving dynamics.
Observing the rise of Trump, it's clear that America's perception of its global standing and its relationship with Europe is evolving. Despite the persistence of views within elite media, academia, and political circles regarding the transatlantic relationship, there is an undeniable shift in the cultural tectonic plates beneath the surface. This shift is particularly visible in the attitudes towards the war in Ukraine, where a substantial portion of Americans express reluctance to provide further aid. This sentiment reflects a broader reevaluation of America's role on the international stage and its commitments abroad.
Another pivotal moment was Trump's address to the United Nations, where the German delegation notably laughed at his warnings about Germany's growing dependency on Russian natural gas resources. This incident was widely viewed as a shocking display of disrespect and contempt but has gained significance over time as Trump's concerns have been historically validated. The reaction to his address was an eye-opening demonstration of the evolving dynamics and tensions within international relations, emphasizing the need for serious consideration of differing viewpoints and the potential consequences of dismissing them outright.
The contempt displayed in these videos, including yours, is rather shocking, especially given America's historical sacrifices for Europe and its people. These attitudes undermine transatlantic cooperation. Before cooperation can be effective, there must be mutual respect; without it, collaboration falters. I fear these attitudes are prompting a reevaluation of America's commitment to Europe and the broader transatlantic community. Such a shift could be tragic, as it might lead to diminished collaboration and understanding between these long-standing allies. The potential unraveling of this relationship could have significant consequences for both regions and the global community.

Triggered Americans in the comments: All Dutch people generalize!
Seriously though, it's odd to think of a people as cultured or uncultured. Culture is inflicted upon people since birth, and Americans are just people living their life in theirs and being shaped by it. It is that way everywhere. I feel sorry for them because I think in many ways American macroculture is one of extremes of spectacle, greed and fear that we have the luxury of being too small and manageable for for it to reach such degrees. Any Dutch person raised in the US would be culturally American and vice versa. It's not something you partake in, it's something that happens to you. Americans don't exist outside the context of referring to someone born to the society called America. I mean, we have a colloquial meaning for cultured but how you apply that to people is also just a result of the culture you and they are brought up in.
We shouldn't confuse things produced by such cultures for the passive objects of it. None of us are free and we all suffer under the greed and evil of others.

I’m sure the quality of living in Europe must be great so Europeans no need to feel jealous. I’ve noticed in some videos that Europeans tend to critique Americans for things like being ‘too nice’ or ‘too focused’ on success and money, which might come off as jealousy. I don’t know, I just felt like those comments have some emotion underneath. Conversely, Americans often highlight positive aspects when discussing Europe. It’s just an observation though, watching it from outside.
Maybe I felt a little bit uncomfortable by some UK lady said racism is bad in America. It appears that individuals may not fully recognize the complexities within their own countries. I believe it's important for us to acknowledge and address these issues within our own societies before passing open judgment on others. Dear Americans, as a Dutch person: I'm so sorry the media has given many of us such a skewed view. We only get your news stories when something horrible happens and for some reason many people think movies, series and reality tv are an honest and accurate depiction of people. Not thinking about the fact that those things need drama to attract viewers.
I'm trying my best to assure people the media only shows the extremes of what the US has to offer. Americans are some of the friendliest people I've ever met, I think how outgoing many are can be a bit of a shock to people from the more silent and introvert European countries. It's my favorite holiday destination because it is the most diverse country in the world, which also makes it impossible to sum up in a few sentences when you know more about it than what the media has spoon-fed you.

I love my country. And it is one of the best. Firstly, it’s funny how their mentality is formed around news and not actually being there and living. Secondly, there is so much beauty. From our national parks, starting and running businesses, freedom to explore so many outlets and interests, commercially available goods, convenience, sports, events, there’s just so much. And the average American is hard working, kind and overall good people. We need cars because we’re vastly bigger country lol. There’s a difference between being blunt and being a bigot. And this isn’t bluntness but just goes to show their own warped “understanding” of our land, history, culture and values by their own news media. I love America, my home. Europe is great too, and we all have our pluses and minuses, this was mostly just a hate video.

      @MonsieurRaki 10 місяців тому +15

It really wasn't. People addressed some real issues the US is facing, that is not bigotry. America used to be respected in the world, but not anymore. You are usually not 'the best' when it comes to quality of life, but a lot of people are not aware of that because they don't leave their country to see how others live. Nor are they aware how the rest of the world sees the US, as Americans are being taught that the US is the best. When Americans travel it opens their minds about their own country (and the same goes for us travelling abroad too). The things mentioned are just things that come to mind when you have to answer a question quickly. That doesn't mean the US doesn't have great people or good qualities. And of course you love your home country. I have plenty of negative things to say about my own country, but it's still "home". We form our opinions not just from the news but experiencing visiting the US, talking to other Americans online or in our country and scientific data. Of course there are always stereotypes and opinions aren't always nuanced, but that's with everyone. Americans also have stereotypes about other countries, it goes back and forth. As an American, I love the Netherlands and many of their progressive policies, but some of these comments about us seem a bit naïve. For example, the comment about Americans relying on cars is a bit ridiculous given the relative size of our countries. The US has 3.9 MILLION square miles while the Netherlands has just 16,200 square miles. You can literally fit all of the Netherlands in the southern 1/4 of the state I live in (Minnesota). Many Americans have family dispersed in the state they live or nearby states and an automobile is by far the easiest way to visit them. The Netherlands also has the highest population density of any European country, and many people would agree that that is not necessarily a good thing. Also, all the talk about Americans and the rich vs. poor shows a lack of self-awareness of many Dutch of the situation in their country: the top 1% of the distribution owns around 24% of all net wealth and the top 10% owns 60% of all net wealth, while the bottom three quintiles own almost no wealth. So, it seems that both countries have quite a lot to strive for to truly be democracies that work for all of their citizens.

dude the dutch are known for thinking they are better than every1 else. theyve gone deep with it by now. its like a country wide personality disorder. lots of europe is a bit bitter toward america. understandable. we are the descendents of their throwaways, and look at what we became. this is why we need to crush our involvement with globalism. its dragging us down. we need to leash the elite abusing our capitalism. if u want to travel to europe, germany is ok. europeans dont smile and wave. theyre cold and bitter. but theyll answer any questions or help u if in need. england, scottland, wales, ireland, will all be pretty friendly. france is rude. spain is ok sometimes. portugal rude. holland very rude. swiss depends. finland and sweden arent rude. italy used to be rude, probably depends where u go. and everywhere u go ull of course get exceptions. but dont count on too many in holland:) my family is obnoxious, even here in america. echos of being dutch i guess. but i love how its just cnn koolaid opinions. funny. i expected more. when we left, pride was in our quality of work and being good. thrifty. sensible. now, im not sure what theyre proud of. even though germany took advantage of it, holland is very free imo. dutch dont like being told what to do, nor do they need it. thats why they dont have big political systems. but they need to get rid of their outsiders trying to unravel their culture. perhaps thats the reason for the hostility

It's not like that, this is the just general idea that Europeans have of the U.S., matured over the most scandalous news that has reached their ears. Then you meet an American and you realize "ah but so they have normal people too" ... "Oh they are nice too"
But honestly this could have happened also if they interviewed me, I would have said, "No, I don't like their ruling class, I don't like the all-hands-on-deck mentality, I don't like shootings, Christian fundamentalists, riots and karens."

I don't think they realize that there's a huge group of african american people who fit into a perfect stereotype that makes a ton of people disrespect them. Basically being brash, poor, and sketchy. it's a horrible hole they fall into and it's very hard to get out of. I have to act happy despite the huge amount of people that would be afraid to even walk on the same side of the road as me just by my image being remembered for theivery/gang image, hood behavior, and just the general awkward standoffish feeling towards someone living a much harder life than you. Minorities like Indians and African groups of Britian have a completely different image over there. America, any black guy who has dread lochs, tattoos, darker skin, and isn't acting refined and happy is immediately associated with gas stations, 90s Los Angeles low rider culture, jail, guns, gangs, and the crime of having the image of the people who can't escape the torment caused by them existing. It's so sad, and is extremely different to people in Netherlands who if ever there are minorities, they are either racist, or extremely fine with them because it's basically themselves but with darker skin.
Netherlands hasn't the faintest clue about American culture and what it means, what we went through to get to where we are, how there's so much more passed the fast food signs, huge miles and miles of neighborhoods, amusement lands like Disney or Universal. It's all charming to me...well not the fast food signs and whole highway off ramp food centers that have nothing else around but highway 50 and forests. But everything else, and how it changes with the different times. It's not just always a eerie dystopian 12:00 hot summer fast food chain. It could be raining at sunset when you go through a McDonald's drive through on the way to a concert, or Winter and snowing at a Wendys in Manhattan. It's just bad product LITERAL placement as in land placement. These companies marketing at extremely popular destinations for people on trips up north or downsouth. It's not that dystopian when 60% of society is a family of 5 who need a quick bite to eat. America has by far the most types of food to choose from out of any other place. Amplified with foreign groups starting family owned restaurants in shabby store lots off town main roads with like a Subway, asain take out place with two seats inside a quant room but has amazing food and so is extremely popular despite the condition that appears cheap and messy (A super american thing), then some Publix, Lions, or I don't know something else. Basically modern malls are these open facade restaurants and shops off the sides of a highway because the USA is 2.5 percent asphalt which is an insane number out of 100% when you think about it.
So no they would never understand any background except a silly country with idiots and fat people, who live in dystopian food places everywhere.

When the locals found out we were American they kept mentioning “America is like Jerry Springer show” and wouldn’t stop. I was pretty amused. Then they asked us to play a game where nails are pounded in a thick piece of wood. Everyone got one shot at a time with the hammer. Last nail that was driven in bought a round of beers. I kinda got the impression they were convinced the Americans would lose and be buying drinks. That wasn’t the case. To make matters worse apparently they were carpenters as I heard the boss of one guy say to another I thought you said you’ve hammered nails before? It was hilarious 😆

Cliched as it may be, what I appreciate about Americans is their friendliness, directness which some dislike, their independent spirit, their can-do attitude despite risks of failures.
Similar to certain other races or older civilisations with longer histories of culture, traditions and / or conflict, Europeans understand the necessity of public goods like healthcare, education, etc., and r more nuanced.
However, whether good or bad, they r never really open to outsiders and perspectives outside their cultural norms.

Interesting . I'm an American living in Brazil for the last 11 years . Some of the comments ring true : living under a rock ( we generally know little about other cultures and countries ) and the rise of Trump , who is certainly not my cup of tea . But America is so large and diverse that it's hard to generalize much . New York is almost a different world than Arkansas , which is very different from New Hampshire . I think that Americans are generally friendly and open . Brazil is a wonderful country and Brazilians , for example , are extremely friendly and easy to approach , but of course there are certain problems here as well ( crime in urban areas , inequality ) .
