Awesome. Those Cowsill blood harmonies are sooo spine-tingling great! Never seen this video before. Bill's playing a 12-string. Stellar talents. They were big but had Bud not mismanaged them so horribly, they likely would've been a monster musical juggernaut.

You are SO right. This family should have been a bigger and more successful group achieving the recognition and appreciation they deserve. Bud ruined that for them.

Che professionisti! È incredibile. Canta la canzone in italiano così, come se fosse niente. E anche senza accento. Ed era considerato un gruppo 'leggero', Bubbles gum....

Holy cow! This family never ceases to amaze me. I don't know where you found this performance. But it was stunning! Such sumptuous harmonies. Billy Cowsill's powerful singing voice rises to the top of his family's abundant and beautiful singing. Bob did an admirable job taking over lead singing duties after their stupid father Bud fired Bill from the group AND FAMILY. But Bill was destined to be a lead vocalist. He was just too good. Thank you for posting.

They played some other gigs while in Italy, including Paul's first appearnces with the group. Susan was mentioned in an Italian newpaper, that when it was her solo spot onstage, she dedicated her vocal song to Davy Jones of The Monkees. ♥

An interesting song, sadly not appreciated by the audience of the time. The lyrics are about a man named Bartholomew who works in a factory drilling holes on iron slabs, who wants instead to be a poet and dreams of the day in which he will reach fame and fortune with his verses, and everyone will know "Bartholomew's works", which is the title of this song.

I can't understand a word they're singing, but I can't get enough of this. Everybody sounds great, and, I know it's silly, but John doing his little marches are so cute. It looks like he may have had a growth spurt...he is taller than Barry in this video!

Were they Italian and they knew how to speak Italian? Or did they have to practice this for God only knows how long before they actually recorded it in Italian? Is there an English version of them singing this song?

@@zorenxam4693 It's actually them, they also recorded the song on record which I recently got in a second hand shop. In Italy we have an annual Song Festival, Sanremo, that airs on tv which is huge and it's been going on, as you can see, for a long time. In the 60s, artists running in the competition used to perform in pair with another artist, so they would not perform the song together but they'd make two separate performances of the same Italian song. In this case, The Cowsills were performing the same song brought by The Rokes, one of the most popular bands in Italy in the 60s (they were actually british, but moved to Italy and became part of our popular culture) So a lot of times it'd happen that they would bring foreign artists along, and it's a long list actually: you can find italian songs recorded by Paul Anka, Ben E. King, Dusty Springfield, Petula Clark, Sonny & Cher, Mary Hopkin, The Yardbirds, The Cowsills, and the list is quite long. It wasn't unusual at all back then, and even outside of Sanremo I can think of cases where artists recorded songs in italian, like The Rolling Stones (there's a version of As Tears Goes By in italian sang by Jagger himself). Different, beautiful times which I didn't live as I'm quite young so sorry if I said something wrong, but that's what I know :)

The Cowsills were just very talented and could do just about anything. John was playing drums and singing at age 10 and very well at that. He's now drumming for The Beach Boys.

Roadie-ing with Richard. This San Remo Festival was held in early February '68. Paul wasn't listed on an album until 'Captain Sad' which came out in September '68, though he did start to appear onstage with them not long after this performance.
