Baby Phabeni Rests & Plays in the Sand Beside Setombe, Klaserie & the Elephants

- Phabeni tries to rest on the ground of the sand mounds out in the bush, while the elephants surround him, but Klaserie and Setombe won’t let him. Concerned with his safety, they try to get him back up. Klaserie sweetly puts her trunk into her mother’s mouth - perhaps checking in with her to read her thoughts of the situation.
Elephants communicate in this tactile while, conversing through the scents they share and detect through the Jacobson organ at the roof of their palate in the mouth.
Khanyisa, Limpopo and Kumbura also stay close to the mobile little bull as he explores the joys of sand bathing.
Phabeni is SO adorable, and seeing all of the loving care his herd gives him is just beautiful❣️🥹

Phabeni is a lucky little baby, at HERD he had a choice to pick up as his mother any of the females who wanted to adopt him; I thought he had chosen Lundi. Did he not? How did he end up with beautiful Setombe as his mum and a sister. He’s so fortunate! Just looking at him playing and just being a baby is so heartwarming. I adore this video. I absolutely love how this elephant family are keeping a watchful eye on Phabeni and it sure looks like he’s not having it either.😂🐘❤️. It definitely amazes me how the elephants know right where the little one is and they know not to step on him too. It’s almost like they have eyes right in the back of their heads or a really good sense of where he’s at at all times. Also, Phabeni is surly growing so nicely too which is so wonderful to see. I wish I could hug every single elephant there and especially my two favorite Bulls Fishon and Jabulani.😘❤️🥰🐘🐘. I do hope they are also doing well? Oh happy days! It’s great to see that even the teenager Khanyisa is loving having a younger brother! She is as attentive and supportive as the older wiser ones. They are so gentle when it comes to a young one! He’s like a child playing in a sand box…it’s hard to get them to stop. He has brought a sense of matriarchal responsibility to all these beautiful girls! You can tell he’s loving every minute of it! It’s a true blessing that you found him and adopted him…and allowing him to live this peaceful life…you are all proof that ANGELS WALK THE EARTH

There's a reason. Out door enclosures AND it's preferable little calves are on their feet🐾as much as possible. Little calves need to be as agile & adaptable as much as possible IF or WHEN facing dangers. HOWEVER it's better to equip baby calves NOW so as not to develop a l@zy attitude. The mama Elephants are setting & creating firm boundaries for Phabeni & future baby calves.

Just incredible how the adults move with such delicacy around a very sleepy, lazy and at the same time playful and busy little boykie! At the same time, comforting him and protecting him. Incredibly touching and endearing. 🥰❤️

He loves the scratchy grit of that sand. Calms the itchiness he has. He's such a cute baby the way he doesn't even suspect another big elephant might step on him. Not the say Setombe sees it. While Klaserie is telling her mother to let him play, Setombe worries. She keeps bringing him up. You can't really blame her. She really cares about her sweet little bull. She has definitely claimed him as her own. Sweet!

Phabeni won't be able to nap for long with 'mums' around. They will wake him up.. 😆 I used to wonder why they disturd baby ellis when they sleep.. it seems that mothers worried if their babies might be dead or when there is any danger, the little ones will not be alert or have time to run from danger. So mothers are always on guard. 🥰 We can see how reluctant Phabby to get up when he is told to do so.. hahaha.. bet he is sleepy and tired. Love to see Khanyisa very attentive towards Phabby while she herself is still little elli.
