Rewatching this video 2 years later it has just occured to me that in the credits the cylinder becomes active again, and the trebhum are repeating history by preparing for it again
No it’s the story of how The Cylinder arrived on the Trebhum’s planet in the first place. It also shows their celestial call, and how they first met the Trewhalla. The elder that dies at the end credits is the elder you pick up the barrier activating light from in the beginning of the game

I think I get it when you defeat the Mathmetician in this fight you free the Human's memories and he takes over the Mathmaticians body and uses it to confront the Cylendor. Maybe it was even origanaly his body but it got mutated and warped by the corrupting powers of the Cylendor?
Because of first look they see it's weird like "dude, why are you playing this crazy game?". Only by passing this awesome game, you will feel how deep and original this masterpiece is...
My theory has always been that the cylinder is what was created as a result of humanity destroying itself somehow. It is sort of an analogy to warn us that we have to love each other, lest we will become tied to the idea of individualism too closely and become something terrible. Perhaps the Mathematician, who I think is the narrator, was the one who created the cylinder as a weapon of war (sort of an Oppenheimer). But humanity's anger gave it sentience, the cylinder created monsters resembling humanity with the one goal, make everything one. Also punishing its creator by making him into its most important servant for eternity, the Mathematician.
At the end, the Narrator states "You accomplished what thousands of civilizations before you have failed to do." This proves the cylinder likely wasn't manmade.
The part where The elder tells them their story is definetly heart-warming, While the little explody trebhum plays around the Home/Incubator, i Burst out laughing on how cute it was.
So the Trebhum probably a pet or some kind of creature that was found by the Humans (space exploration and stuff) then the human teach them technology and make them evolve into an intelligent race then helped them build everything but then the Humans probably going war or something that made them left the planet. The trebhums took over and build statues of the Humans (the faces that we saw in the game) to remind them of the one that helped them then build a civilization of their own. But now the corrupted humans (Mathmeticians) make a super weapon (The Cylinder) to conquer other planets, started attacking the Trewhaalas then the Trewhaalas seek shelter on the Trebhum's planet and help them build and live together happily until the Cylinder comes and destroyed almost everything again. Now we play as a survivor to find a way to defeat or hide from the Cylinder. We seek help from our our Elders and find a way to communicate with our old friends the Trewhaalas. We successfully found a way to stop the Cylinder by helping the corrupted humans regain their humanity and the humans help destroy the Cylinder by nuking the evil out of it. (The humans did sacrificed themselves so RIP) It's my thought

Yeah the trebhums were living there own civilization on there planet sepretly to humanity on earth the cylinder came to earth killed all life and assimilated it. The cylinder then came to the trebhums planet after it discovered them due to the trebhums sending songs into space as messages of peace and friendship. the cylinder became interested in the Celestial Trewhaala mainly the crystal that cover there bodies to gain there power.
I wish I didn't spoil myself on this, because I finally got around to playing the game and I know I would've been freaking out even harder than I already was once I got to this moment. It's such an intense final.. well, I wouldn't say fight, since you're not the one fighting.
Not gonna lie the credits made me cry seeing the elder that leaves the egg that you would later hatch out from and you finding that same elder that put you there dead is really sad

For me it is a good ending, seeing that the cylinder was broken and I mentioned that some time it will continue its path of destruction it can be stopped, the following civilizations will have hopes that they can finally stop it oh not having macthnetician the cylinder stopped forever and now, the hope is that they eliminate it perpetually
the creature behind the cylinder is mainly a liberator which is sent to kill you if you go behind for too much time, liberators are much better suited on the flat terrain like many other servants are.
The greatest structure ever made, that some great race built to destroy material and capture minds of whole universe's living things to stop suffering, and then the peace will come. Seems like they sacrifice themselves to made it and start it's moving.
Came here because I couldn't bear watching a streamer who won't be named completely suck at the game and then complain about it to the point of being too annoying to finish the stream.
They obviously died if you didn't pass the game, I'd say that one of the cut scenes inside cylinder, memories are telling you that cylinder's servants are made of things that cylinder had already swallowed. As we see, all the servants are having humans parts, that means that humans were a very big race, but they couldn't defeat cylinder.
I wish there was a DLC that would be about Cylinder, explain something about it. Where actually did it come from? Why it want everything be one, why it thinks like that? Was Cylinder created by someone? Maybe some question was already answered, and I just forgot about it, but it will be very interesting.

The Narrator was most likely the Mathematician’s original conciousness before the Cylinder corrupted him, so that’s probably accurate.

Well if you look at the left side of its body, you'll notice that it's almost like a new part was put on it to match the shape of the destroyed bits
He gets revived and healed, you'll see him hop over the cylinder with half his body missing in the grashtuub quest
