People praising the Punch It tool Me - who thinks of himself as bordering on the Intermediate level: "hold up. I never even heard or thought about using Extrude Manifold". Seriously, all this time I've been either using regular extrude or extrude along normals. I didn't even know the Manifold one did it so clean (at least until it meets another edge). Here I was doing regular extrude, deleting overlapping faces and, well, basically reseting everything.
😅 Hopefully this will help speed everything up when. To be fair Blender had so many tools that it's impossible to know all of them until you see them being used.
a general question here, is there a way to taper a bevel on rounded objects in Blender? I noticed this kind of look on some old gas cans from WWII, but don’t really know how to recreate it.
Yeah, I got it just as a way to give Machin3 some money as Machin3 Tools is amazing and it's free. The extra tools are really handy though so it's a total winner all round. 👍🏻
Man, I must be blind! Never even noticed the Punch It tool when pressing Alt + E (I do have this addon installed and enabled - granted, mine is outdate, as the option is called Punch It (a little) which only manifold extrudes a specific small amount... will need to upgrade this for sure). Once again, an addon outshines Blender's native equivalent (not that native Blender is terrible in way, it just seems that outside addon developers think of better/improved functionalities than what Blender offers out of the box so to speak! I guess this is an overall huge plus to the entire Blender echo system... offering choices (be it free or paid).
Maybe I need to update (though I only installed machine tools a few days ago) but I'm not seeing the transparent selector that you show when punching. There is no visual indicator.
With Machin3 and Hops I just let them take over because they integrate with existing tools mostly and I use them constantly. But yes, I do have that problem and sometimes it’s kind of arrogant of the developer in what they assign i.e. Shift A to have a birdy.gif fly across the screen, etc…
I can't say I've had that issue a lot. If I have you can just change the shortcuts. The only one I can think of is with Machin3 Tools changing 1, 2 and 3 and that's all fine as it changes the need for what those shortcuts used to do.
I use a laptop so 1,2,3 were set up for views. However after watching your video about smart stuff. Changed to view pie and wow smart vert super useful

Btw, I do have the DeusEx version (v 1.5) of Machine Tools, and my Punch it is a bit different from yours. First, it's shows up on the menu as "Punch It (a little)" and it's not operated with mouse movement, but rather with a slider menu.
@@ArtisansofVaul As usua,l the solution was self evident: I had to restart Blender. However, your addon still works differently than mine. I'm not sure if it's related to the addon or your own color setup. I say this because in your first demonstration, when you Punch it, you get a green Preview that expands or contracts according to your mouse movement. All I get is a square dot that it's either red (no movement) or turns white as you move your mouse, but I get no colored preview that facilitates where it'll land.
@@ArtisansofVaul Nevermind. I cleared it up with the creator. It was due to my Blender version. One has to use Blender 3.5 or higher. Apologies for clogging up the comment box with technicalities :P
I bought it, but I can't really use it because punchit doesn't work with the blender 4.0 snapping functionality - so I can only eyeball things, and I always get eyeball measurements wrong enough that they show up in the 3d print. :-(
Do you mean the geometry at the side? I don't think you'll ever get something that will be able to calculate that as you go as it would need to prioritise either the existing geometry of the geometry being added on top of it and that would likely produce more errors. I'm not a programmer but I just don't see that being possible.
I looked at the YT guidelines. It’s not permitted to link to an external source but I just had the name of the YT video and said to check it out after your video. I guess I bumped a spider. Anyway, trailer is short and clever.
Thanks for showcasing this tool ΛₒV! I was wondering what this tool was for. I wish machin3 would get someone to make better videos on how to use his tools. I constantly have to figure out how to use them.
@@ArtisansofVaul This is very true! All his tools are brilliant! I would not even know where to begin coding these plugins. Python is a whole thing that takes longer than blender to learn 😛

Great stuff as always man
Thanks brother!
I might have to try this. Thanks!😉
😁 My pleasure.
Nicely done.
Cheers 😁👍🏻
This is perfect for Art Deco
🤣 ???
@ArtisansofVaul art deco is an architectural style using strong shapes with conforming extrusions and bevels
@MonsterJuiced 👍🏻 Cheers man. Happy to learn something new 😁

Best Blender teacher, cheers!
😁 Thanks so much man. What a compliment 😊😊
Thnx for the review, was wondering how this tool can be useful.
😁 Cheers.
Great vid as usual. I keep, forgetting that you get punch it if you get the deus ex in machin tools. 😊

Someone else mentioned the same and it was because their version of Blender wasn't up to date. Hopefully that helps.
Do you ever have the problem of having too many add-ons taking over to many shortcuts?

It isn't really designed for specific distances in mind. I would set up an edge at the correct distance you want and then use that as a guide.
Anyone else see the error at 3:21? It introduced unneeded geometry. 😕 Not a deal breaker, but this needs to be fixed.

Understandable choice there man!👍
I tried it and sometimes it also create non-manifold geometry as well.
It can do. Nothing will.evee be perfect in complex meshes. But it's the tool Ivd found the most reliable by a LONG way.
the addon trailer is good. i mentioned it by title and the comment disappeared :(

@HiTeKun1 I've seen 3dsmax being used. I'll stick to Blender thanks. And that's before Blender being free with a few dollars for an addon.
