bell hooks was a fucking genius. I saw another comment saying that her work infantilizes men and shifts accountability away from them, but I didn't get that from this book at all. She speaks about how certain men who are babied by their mothers don't really want girlfriends they just want new mothers that they can have sex with (SO FUCKING REAL), and how that is detrimental to women's sense of self and how we view our romantic relationships. She is able to condemn that behavior while still acknowledging that it is a result of thousands of years of societal conditioning that teaches men and women that it is a woman's responsibility to manage men's emotions, and that men can and should unlearn this conditioning.
such a great review! i love bell hooks, her thoughts and insights are so inspiring, especially when she discuss love as a phenomenon that is revolutionary and alive
I’m really happy I’ve found Bell Hooks work. It feels so relevant to today - which, considering most of her work is 20 years old is a tad depressing. Her book Feminism is for Everybody really resonated with me on a personal level. I’ll definitely check out All About Love!
Excellent video, I would suggest reading the book where bell hooks got the Erich Fromm quote from: The Art of Loving. I think All About Love could be seen as an addition to and updating of The Art of Loving, and both of them have impacted me very much. I just started All About Love, but the first chapter specifically has helped to clarify and cement SO MANY of the ideas that were presented to me in The Art of Loving. Edit: I would also suggest watching oliSUNvia's video: our conception of love is messed up.
this just inspires me to buy the book, this video felt like a conversation more than a lecture i cant wait to watch more book deep dives (if you choose to do so) much love 💕💕💕
Side note: do you have any makeup on...lol...I like the look its nice..(fangirl moment). The video is too short...criminally too short. a series on the main points would be nice ...as a longer commentary
Bell Hooks passed in 2021… 0:17
Omg didn’t even notice I said 2001! Thanks for pointing it out!
As a man, reading bell hooks completely changed by Perspective on what true Feminism is.
Love to hear it!
Gurl you are so eloquent and your videos are so well structured. I would love for you to post more consistently, I wish more people knew your channel.
Working on it! Thank you for your kind words!
