In an interview, the actor who plays Jesus said that the way he greeted Mary in this scene is the way he greets his own mother every time he sees her.
So I've never connected the fact that Jesus choosing twelve disciples was a direct correlation to the twelve tribes of Israel! My DUH moment!😂😂😂 I'm learning so much from you guys, and I LOVE The Chosen series! Please continue to teach us God's Word, especially with the sense of humor you also bring! To God Be The Glory!
I think it was also important that in this, He was honoring His mother. A very gracious display of honor.
Thaddeus' talk (and voice over) about masonry 19:18 during the water-to-wine scene gives it so much depth, making it more powerful to watch. Such a good episode!
The lady who plays Mary is just perfect
As you were talking about how God can extend time, i meditated on the very short time that water changed to wine as Jesus' hand cut through the water. When God's power comes down to earth, He can extend 1 second to the time that wine can be made by man alone. To make wine you need grapes that are crushed for its juice. Grapes in the gospel and book of revelation are often symbolic of the nonrepentant sinners said to be gathered by angels and crushed. so that His hand in the water might be Him becoming the grapes crushed to become wine.
He became the latter wine which satisfied the cup of wrath of God
Yes they were astounded by Jesus at 12 by his ability to understand and apply.

I love how Tom cannot hold back what the Lord is doing, even in him, as he watches the scene. You can see it in his eyes that he is getting very emotional about the reality of what is being portrayed about Jesus and what He is doing in relation to the people in the scene. Kudos Tom for not making any attempt to stifle your emotions when you speak about the scene.
As someone who can’t help but ask a lot of questions, Jesus’ line about it being okay to do so was encouraging.
Imagine where we would be if we didn't ask questions. Asking questions is a sign of your desire to knowledge and understanding. Be proud and grateful of your hunger.

Y'all talking about the cross, my gosh I cry on every episode. I've rewatched the series 4x over already and still cry at some point in every episode. When THE season starts I'm going to be such a complete wreck. Ugly crying like crazy. I do hope if they put all of those episodes in theaters as well, I hope they have full boxes of tissue for sell at the popcorn counters, cause they'll not be a dry eye on the house!

In ancient Greek the word for potato is γεώμηλο meaning apple of the earth as well (μήλο is the plain apple). I think it's because potatoes didn't exist in the region at that point so when they were imported (from the Americas I think) they used a compound word for a round-ish fruit that grows inside the earth.
In French potato is "pomme de terre", apple of the earth, also.

Most of all the religious leaders where afraid for their own personal motivations. Even those who did believe were afraid of what the consequence would be if they spoke up. The faith of all the leaders were not in God but in their own understanding. Jesus was the catalyst. I love watching your channel.

As you guys are exploring the symbolism of the wine and maybe why it was the first public miracle something kind of occured to me (i'll have to think about it more because it's vague right now). So the water becomes wine (first step of 'taking up the cross'), at the last supper the wine becomes his blood (that he spills on the way and on the cross), then on the cross his blood pours out like water. Maybe i'm thinking too much, but it's kind of like it's going full circle.

About the apple/potato reference, in French happens the same, apple is pomme and potato is pomme de terre (apple of the earth) 🤯

@@Grafted Potatoes were introduced to Europe in the 17th century. They are from South America. In German we either say Kartoffel, a variant of truffle, or Erdapfel or Grombeer, depends on the region. All I know is what we make out of the potato is also quite similar. Potato pancakes with apple sauce. The potato has an interesting history. I know the Prussian king Friedrich had to force the farmers to plant them. People didn't like to try something new. Now it's one of the main elements of the food pyramid. Solved a lot of problems with hunger. More easily stored. Almost ready to eat, no need to make flour out of it first.

I believe that they took care of Jesus on those three days! They took Him to their house ( if the house was not at the temple )feed Him and give Him water to bathe and return to temple back and forth on those three days.

oh myyyy so basically in Dutch we say aardappels earth-apples, has to be from the Hebrew Tapuach Adama, love those connections!
I don't think so. Many European languages call potatoes earthapples. It comes from Latin malum terrae (apple of the earth) - but this word meant every fruit growing in or on the earth, so also pumpkins and cucumbers.
It's more likely modern Hebrew took this word from one of the European languages, most likely French.
People, you are aware that potatoes come from the new world? So, it should be assumed that they were named by the discoverers of the new world and then spread around as it was brought into the old world by merchants. Maybe Dutch merchants. I would think that Hebrew received the name through that.

I would imagine water in ancient times would be dirty. The human body is made up 60% water. How beautiful that Jesus turns undrinkable water into useful, drinkable and the best tasting wine...

Just kind of interesting in that 1st scene between Andrew and Peter when they're talking about their father teaching them how to fish they referred to him as "dad" whereas everyone else calls their father Abba. In a subsequent episode they do refer to their father as Abba so I guess this was an oversight that wasn't caught.
I am Shepherding (I think that’s the right word) through watch the chosen and every time they would say a prayer she would say it in Hebrew and that kinda made me laugh because I wrote down “Saba and Savta”, thinking that I would have to explain that, but no I didn’t have to. She works in a Jewish daycare, so she knows a lot of stuff about Judaism.
I loved the reference in the song to Jeremiah 33.11 (voice of the bridegroom)

It always struck me as being a good parallel for Moses -- the "first miracle" of Moses was turning water into blood, and the old covenant was sealed in blood, and the "first miracle" of Jesus is turning water into wine, and the new covenant is, while sealed in the blood of Jesus, is symbolized and celebrated with wine.
Jonathan Roumie said in an interview he told Dallas when he would visit his mom he would lift her in a hug and could he do that if the actor who plays Mary was okay with it. She was- they did it and it made the final cut.

I never thought of Jesus' point of view that this starts something that ends at the cross. This was such a pivotal moment, and so well done and thought out. Jesus's face in the water, the wine dripping like blood, the explanation of the stone masons
work being permanent, even having his mother there. So well done and beautiful. The servants being the ones who witnessed the miracle, and S1E5 when the leper says his sister was a servant at the wedding....I see you writers! Do you think he would've put his hand in all the vessels, just one or none of them?

In John: “ You did not choose me but I chose you”. As Peter explains in this expository moment, Jesus’ later words have to do with his choosing of His disciples rather than the reverse, and have nothing to do with predestination to salvation. We also know this because he says earlier “did not I choose all of you, And yet one of you is a devil?”
Mary and Joseph were with other family and so they could have assumed he decided to hang out with some of the cousins. However, after realizing that he wasn't there, and the fact that they had already traveled quite a bit, it makes sense that some days could have passed. Today, because walking is seen as a leisurely activity, instead of a necessary one, it's sometimes hard to fathom just how much a person in the ancient days would be able to travel in one day, let alone several.
Also, not only would they freak out as any parent today would, but I'm sure they had added stress to keep track of Jesus as the Father in Heaven had entrusted His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to them.
One thing I liked what the Chosen did in this scene was have Joseph find Jesus. It make more sense that Joseph and Jesus would come to Mary, because she could only go into the Temple grounds so far. However, perhaps Joseph and Jesus could enter in courts that even Mary couldn't go.
As for Jesus being at the temple, I have heard some translations that suggest that Jesus was the one teaching the Jewish Leaders, not necessarily them teaching Him.
As to the question about Jesus' intelligence, we need to remember that Matthew was another student of knowledge who was great at numbers and calculations. While I'm sure Jesus was more on the religious side of things, perhaps he and John the Baptizer both came up year after year and were each remarkable in their own way. I know we typically think of John as someone who was a bit wild, but with parents like Elizabeth and Zachariah, as well as the Jewish leaders wondering if he was a Prophet of God, John must have had some knowledge of the scriptures and wisdom while he was growing up.
My point is, perhaps during the time of Jesus, there were other brilliant minds. Also, they assumed that Jesus Christ would save them physically the First time the Messiah came, not at the End of the World.

Average age of men during that time was around the late 40's from what I understand of history. So, to answer your question, my guess is that most of the scholars he was astounding were mostly dead by the time he was in public ministry (age 30'ish)? Just a guess.
3 days Jesus spent at Synagogue with pharisees: might have been revelations and prophesies. Because Holy Spirit wasbwith Him, it was Holy Spirit that opened the Phrisees understanding. I could remember a similar incident when Ezra the priest during exile was just reading Scripture continuously and all Jews who heard understood without question. Kind of in that manner.
The apple and potato thing can also be seen in the French language!

In my Catholic faith we believe that we have that celebration at our mass liturgy. We are just bringing it back to remembrance not redoing it.

I already made the beautiful connection between Christ's Miracle of Wine and the Stone vessels, but I hadn't yet considered the connection between Christ's willingness to perform the miracle and Christ's willingness to go through the Atonement.
Also I didn't know that Wine was a symbol of Joy.
I enjoy learning more things about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the your perspective that helps me connect closer to God.
I also thought about how the Best Wine was saved for Last, and When Jesus Christ comes again for His Millennial Reign, He will be saving the Best Celebration of Last!

When you mentioned the opposition between Joy and Suffering, I thought about a scripture in the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ.
A Prophet and Father named Lehi teaches his son, Jacob, about how God has given opposition so we can use the gift of Agency and know the difference between Righteousness and Wickedness, so we can choose to Follow God.
" And because of the intercession for all, all men come unto God; wherefore, they stand in the presence of him, to be judged of him according to the truth and holiness which is in him. Wherefore, the ends of the law which the Holy One hath given, unto the inflicting of the punishment which is affixed, which punishment that is affixed is in opposition to that of the happiness which is affixed, to answer the ends of the Atonement-
For it must needs be, that there is an aopposition in all things. If not so, my firstborn in the wilderness, righteousness could not be brought to pass, neither wickedness, neither holiness nor misery, neither good nor bad. Jesus disappearing as a 12 year-old to the Temple without telling Mary and Joseph was a transgression. I don't think it was hyperbole. As a kid, Jesus would have been hyper-focused on what he felt he was called to do and, being twelve, didn't necessarily think about how him being gone for 3 days would affect His earthly parents. He was, after all, man.
Loaves and fishes, we bring our meagre amount, He multiplies it.
