  • How to make Binutong
    Binutong is a bicolano delicacy made up of glutinous rice with coconut cream, wrapped in banana leaves. The banana leaves give a wonderful flavour to the rice. This is often served as breakfast or merienda, and best paired with hot chocolate or coffee.
    Ingredients:
    8 cups glutinous rice
    2 cups basmati rice
    10 cups coconut cream
    4 tsp salt
    10-20 pcs young banana leaves (cut into 10x10 inches each)
    Water
    How to prepare:
    1. Wash glutinous rice, then soak in water for about 1 hr or overnight.
    2. Remove water, then add the coconut cream and the salt.
    3. Clean and Soften banana leaves overheat so it wouldn't be stiff and won’t tear up easily when we use it for wrapping
    4. Place the banana leaf in a bowl, push the centre part to make a basin-like mould, then scoop about a half a cup of rice mixture, secure the edges to make a pouch, then tie tightly.
    5. Place the pouches in a pot with water. The water level should be about halfway to the sides of pouches.
    6. Cover and cook for about an hour over medium-low heat.
    7. Then remove from the pot. Serve warm.

    My mom is from Bicol at diyan din ako ipinanganak, pero dito na kami sa Mindanao lumaki. Ngayon ko lang nalaman na may ganitong recipe pala ang mga taga Bicol. Hope to try it pag uwi ko diyan. Proud to be Bicolana. Thank you for sharing😍

    Tanong ko lang po, if pwede ba syang i~freeze? Kasi balak ko gumawa ng madami, mahal kasi ng banana leaf dito sa S.Korea. TIA

      donna shayne cruza if no banana leaf u can cook in a rice cooker we called that panakrong pulutan but not same if u cook in banana leaf kasi yun gata sa banan leaf we called that mariputok unlike sa rice cooker di sya nag riputok.
