    Our dog only barks at bikes when I ride them, haven't been able to get him to stop yet. These two tone FXWGDG's are extremely rare. Have not seen one myself since the 1980's. Got this one from the original owner

    I converted my 84 softtail to rear belt, never had a problem, rode another 84 for 6000 miles before I sold it, never had to adjust the rear chain one time

    Great bike! Your dog is super-cool...,our dogs (5) love to bark at the bikes too,I think dogs believe that bikes are big loud barking dogs too and they wanna communicate with them in their best known way:by barking back at them!

      I agree. My first Harley was a new 1982 FXE & ten years I later I got a 1985 Wide Glide--- Evo motor/4 speed/kickstart/belt drive/old style 4 speed frame--- the best of the old and new. Willie G. always did the mostest with the leastest--- his genius with Milwaukee's parts bin is what enabled the company to survive the AMF years. People love to hate on AMF, but Harley's most memorable models were produced during that era, and after the buyback in '81, it seemed that Willie only got better. Those early-to-mid-80s Harleys are the zenith of the Shovelhead model. The motor was as bulletproof as the Evo (my wife and I got married on my 82 and rode from Little Rock to NYC and back several times with zero problems--- I only changed plugs & oil), and no line of Harleys since the 80s can compare with the class of those Shovels. After HD phased out the 4 speed frame with the last Wide Glide in '86, I lost interest in new Harleys--- they might as well be Hondas. I'm not just blowing smoke--- last week I bought an original low-mileage 1982 FXB Sturgis! $8K, but a bargain compared to these fake Harleys you see at today's dealerships.LOL

    Yes I have a 1983 FXDG. Just got done with a 5 hr. ride. I still have a can of the original Harley paint. It's part # is 98603-GC. They call the color Dark Maroon. This is one of the prettiest shovels out there. If I could figure out how to post a picture I would.

    Alex Davis, in 1984 both Shovel's and EVO's were made concurrently (at the same time). 1984 EVO models were all BT rubber mounts and the just introduced FXST Softtail. 1985 saw ALL BT's as EVO motored machines. Still being made in 195 and mid 1986 were formerly popular Shovel models, the FXEF Superglide and the FXWG Wideglide, but with the new EVO motor. 1985 FXEF's came with a rear chain, but I have seen some with a rear belt which makes me speculate that mid year HD might have switched the FXEF to a belt drive. 1985 FXWG's were rear belt, always.

    Thank you very much ¡¡¡¡ , this shovelhead model is fantastic, and I find a harley interporal a harley shovelhead and evolution transitional between, I've only seen three in Mexico and not in the condition of the motorcycle described Tod, one in Colima, Mexico, and the other two in Leon Guanajuato, Mexico, in an event similar to sturgis in United States

Sketched out when I bought it NEW in ‘84, but has proven to be dependable throughout the last 34 yrs. 60,000 miles on it now and allz well..... It needs one more gear!!! Ride safe ya’ll!!

      simple, cheaper to make and the braking power was increased

    • @styga1969
      @styga1969 10 років тому

      That makes sense. Also I noticed some have the big "banana" back brake caliper and some had the smaller one. Mine had the smaller one in the rear. I'm guessing it's for weight also. My brother had an 81 lowrider with inner and outer belt drive. I wonder why they didn't continue with the inner/outer belt drives. Thanks for the great info.

    The VIN numbers on this bike and the title call out an FXWG; the 1983 FXDG Special Edition had it's own VIN designation. I would be willing to bet this bike was just a standard Wide Glide that had the solid rear wheel put on at some point (also note that the rear rotor is not a factory rotor). The solid wheel (made by Centerline) could be bought, it's part number 41057-83, and it was used on the FXDG, FXRDG, and the first FXSTC models. I can't find any evidence of a special edition 1984 like this anywhere other than this video. If there were 1000 made, there must be another one someplace...? I could be wrong, I was riding Rupp's, not Harleys in 84.

    • @HuntingHarleys
      @HuntingHarleys  8 років тому

      your thinking the Purple bike that was made 1000 each in 1983 and 1984. Also, they made this model. This was according to the sales fliers the dealer's gave out at the time. I was there.

    • @jdaugustin
      @jdaugustin 8 років тому

      +HuntingHarleys Is there any chance you have one of the fliers you're referencing? I'm not arguing with you or saying you aren't correct, I'm just very interested it the bike. I have an FXDG (what you call the purple one), so I know all about those. I've just never seen anything on this 84.

    • @HuntingHarleys
      @HuntingHarleys  8 років тому

      no, you don't think about 30 years later when your in your early 20's. Even if I had saved one, I highly doubt I would still have it today. too many implosions and having to move life events on my side.

  • @1michsaun

    In 1984 they made a disc glide but it was the FXRDG. I don't believe it's a Willie G. Special Edition Twin Belt Wide Glide.

      yes, they made two types of Willie G Specials, the purple ones and these two tone editions. They were made in 1983 and 1983, for both years. Word at the time had a production of 1000 units of each type to be made.

    Not a FXDG, Harley Davidson did produce a disk glide in 84 but was based on the FXRS, the disk rear wheel was a dealer sold accessory , in 83 the Vin# 1HD1BG designates the Twin belt wide glide, plus this bike dose not have any of the special trim items that were on the 83 Disk Glide, the tank Decal for the 83 was 14046-83 and the 84 decal wich looks similar is 14057-84 so sorry to say there was no such thing as a 84 FXDG !

    • @HuntingHarleys
      @HuntingHarleys  7 років тому

      The parts - numbers are relevant, not exact, to 1st year of production. Both 83 and 84 saw the FXWG produced with two models of disc glides. Only the purple ones were the Willie G specials. I can't recall any of the FXWG disc glides with the decale you mentioned. It is entirely possibly those decals were for the FXR disc glide series.

      a standard FXWG is different from the special editions by the paint and in some cases the center line rear wheel also. You cannot tell by motor numbers, only what the basic model was, such as FXWG, FXB, FXSB, FXE etc. If a bike had special paint on it at one time but was re painted, only Harley would have those records. You can also tell the year model by motor or frame numbers, ALWAYS.
