- This is seemingly quite a rare game now. Hard to find and even harder to get running on a modern system. Now what do I think of this? Well, I was playing with a keyboard and I found it much less pleasant to play than the F1 Psygnosis games or even Grand Prix 2, which were both released a year earlier. Perhaps with a wheel it would be better. Cornering seemed a slow, laborious process. If you took a turn too fast, the front wheels would turn more and you'd understeer off the track. The grass and gravel are both made of glue, so put one wheel off the black stuff and your car comes to a stop very quickly. On the other hand - compared to the Psygnosis F1 games at least - the AI are much more fun to race. They're actually very forgiving and they'll intelligently move out of your way if you're alongside rather than just holding their pre-programmed line leading to a crash every time. I think this game would benefit from a closer, more in-depth look one day because it's not really a pickup-and-play kind of F1 game. There are tons of menus and options and the physics were supposedly some of the best of their time. The other draw is that this is one of only two games I know that simulated the 1996 F1 season. However, I feel I'd rather simulate F1 1996 via a Grand Prix 3 or Grand Prix 4 mod. Did you own this game? Comments below!

Note: Running this on Windows 10 meant wrapping the 3dfx version with dgvoodoo, then limiting my framerate in the Radeon control panel to 94fps to match the clockspeed of the game. This means there are frame drops from time to time. Using dgvoodoo also means some of the display graphics are a little corrupt - not an issue in the original game. Any questions about running this on Windows 10, feel free to ask.
Old Racing Games I’m not going to ask question about this game. Instead I’m going to ask about running f1 challenge 99-02. It’s very hard to do so, and I would like some tips. I cannot get it to run on either windows ten or windows 7

I still remember the day my dad bought a new PC so we could play this game. Awesome memories.
Man I remember me and my father being overwhelmed by how the Trees looked, lens flares, that grass would stick to your tires and that you can see yourself on the tracks screen xD. Great times

Oh man.. this brings back memories.. this is the first game i bought for my pc.. it was in a discount bin at the local Aldi.... I think i still have it lying around somewhere..
It was THE sim of the day. Everyone compared GPL to this game when it came out. And yet F1RS is somewhat forgotten now.

I didn't have a computer but I bought this game. I used to go to internet cafe for 1 hour. after playing this game I dreamt about next week... Memories...
Brings back some great memories! I played the heck out of this game. I remember being in awe at the “realistic” gameplay at the time. Setting your pit stop strategy, the realistic AI, and real life failures: engine, exhaust, suspension failures etc. Great fun!
My Dad introduced me to this as a child and we had a decent wheel and pedals setup. This was the first game that genuinely felt like you were ‘controlling’ a real high performance car and the tyres were in contact with the road.
I've loved this game for a VERY long time. About 3 years ago, I got a mint boxed copy on eBay for 30 bucks. I was fucking ecstaic. It stays on the shelf lmao.

I remember playing this as a follow up to GP2 of Geoff Crammond and playing it all day and night :-) Wasn't Villeneuve "Driver X"?

I crash test pretty much every racing game lol. Andretti Racing on the Sega Saturn was the best for that back in 1995/6.

Such a good game. Also I spent hours driving the Nürburgring pitlane in reverse, hitting the wall and trying to get the car to flip as many times as possible.
Damn this brings memories. First proper game I played as a child and oh man I grinded the shit out of this. English isn't my native language but there I was speaking "fluent" English at 4 year old lol. This was the shit!
I remember how our family PC couldn't run this game til my step dad bought a new graphics card. It stil didn't run well but we had so much fun playing this game.

interesting thing: in that game you could miss a race because you are injured after a crash!

Good vid mate! I have Racing Simulation 2 which is basically the same game but with unofficial cars... I remember that it wasn't a good sim compared to GP2. The only good thing was the "classic racing" mode.
GP2 had far more accurate circuits and was a lot more fun, but it was just an arcade game compared to F1RS.
I still have a CD of this game after all these years! Sadly it's beginning to deteriorate and the game crashes more often than it used to. Still, happy memories and thanks for the video!
I got this running but have a weird issue no matter what the car keeps pulling to the side which makes it impossible to steer and I really don’t know what to do

Oh yeah, I remember this game. I love how this and UbiSoft's 1999 F1 game have a bit of the classic layout of the actual F1 races implemented.
Should have the CD at home somewhere...
I can't install it, I think the system once informed me that I didn't have the system32 indeo video driver and since then the installation is not possible in windows 10

I'm actually surprised at how easy this game is to get working on Windows 10. All I needed was just nGlide and running the game's exe file.

Flawed games but still impressive in various ways. The way the cars move is very natural and realistic looking compared to the vast majority of old racing games especially and the suspension having an affect going over kerbs for a game this old is amazing
F***. I remember playing this in '98 and 99'. I was heckin' 9-10 years old. And this game was real struggle. I only won a race once. It was MonteCarlo, and it was so effing amazing. I would but this game if it were ported to Windows 10. Workarounds don't make the cut.
Isn't it easier to build a retro gaming rig for games just like this and have an authentic experience?
I'm running this game on a high-end 1997 gaming box with a Dual Pentium Pro 200/1M, Riva 128 and Voodoo Graphics and it's just amazing.
And yeah, I'm running it on Windows 95 which is better than Windows 10 just cause the number is higher!
For personal purposes, absolutely. It would be cheap too. But it would be difficult to capture in this quality.
