i love this...reminds me of the old days with Gerald Wilson's band or Count Basie...don't hear much of this style of music...Great (I wish someone would video taped this session)
This is 9 months after you posted this. If you memorize your scales, major, augmented and diminished, you’ll nail the changes. I’m a sophomore lead trumpet over two juniors a senior and a sophomore. I did this tune and did the middle solo, and took the trumpet head up the octave 😉. Best of luck.
Was told by my junior high jazz band director to listen to it on repeat until we perform. So far it’s awesome. I’m planning on trying out for the improvised Alto Sax solo in the middle. I’m excited.
I played the lead alto part, but my band director gave me the solos in the trumpet part. This was because I am a flute player that wanted a solo in the song.

It's fourth trumpet that actually plays it, and it's not a written part. It's completely improvised. I played this at a concert 10 hours ago. I'm first trumpet in my high school jazz band.
1 st trumpet part is boring, besides, if you love the song just listen and figure it out. If you are a good enough musician I'm sure you will be fine. The solo sections are great btw.
I love how they hit so far back on the beats, almost late.
Called laying back my man
Its because it is in 12:8
As a soloist trumpet I was pretty happy playing this in middle school.

The first trumpet part on this tune is actually also with Flugelhorn.
I'm in high school jazz, and have to play the alto sax solo at the later part. I'm pretty new to improvising so this is some work for me.

Playing those high notes on trumpet was so satisfying. They flowed so easily in this song

I'm the only trombone in my lower jazz band and we're playing this,I love it
That song was so touching it made me blush! That is nice! I loved it!

My middle school band is playing this
I have the nice 4th trumpet part. I’m working on replicating this exact solo.
One of the few big band Metheny arrangements that sounds like it belongs. Not a big fan of the song with Bona singing, but this version really works.
Great song. Working on it and it's tough
banger
the glitch at 3:48 tho, kinda kills it.
aww its not that bad

Anyone know what album this is from? Can't find it anywhere
It's been long 9 years but this is from my favorite album of all time, Speaking Of Now by Pat Metheny Group
IF ANYONE COULD GIVE ME THE NOTES FOR THE FIRST TRUMPET SOLO I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT
