The handles fit in the loops on the sides during transport.
Well said.
Hi. When I grew up (early 70`s -80`s) a kettle like that was a true companion on every adventure, summer and winter. Still have it, still cooking my of-the-track coffee in it. Recon they can use it for my urn when time comes....
Great review! My very favourite kettle to use. You’ve probably already figured this out but the square loops at the side of the kettle can be used for securing the handles in place during transit. You cross the handles over one another & push the protruding part of the handles under the loops. The arms are then under a small amount of tension which keeps them nicely in place.
I had NOT realized this, thanks!
PaleoHikerMD no problem! By happy coincidence your size of Eagle kettle also nests exactly in the Pathfinder bush pot.
This kind of kettle the most common and classic one here in Norway. You can put it deep in a fire without worry it will tip over, because it is so flat. We call it «Svartkjel», «Black kettle» as they get black when we make «Kokekaffe» on fire. I think there is videos of how to make Scandinavia Kokekaffe here on UA-cam 😉
The kettle is not designed for fancy pour over coffee, it is meant to be the vessel you brew the coffee in. When you try doing that, preferably brewing close to the max amount the kettle can handle, the spout will make sense. It is surprisingly easy to pour from, which makes it easy to fill up your thermos with coffee. Also, the placement of the spout makes a good job at keeping the grounds in the kettle, and not in your thermos. I have actually started using my own kettle at home, when i want a full coffee.
That "night gown" music...🤣😅
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
A Girl Scout tip for keeping your cook pots clean is to coat the outside of the pot with dish soap before you put it over the fire. All the soot cleans off with a little water and your kitchen bag stays clean.
I reeeeeeally like the new intro music. Great addition
I have both the large and small version. The large one is not quite as good looking, simply because the larger dimensions throw off the balance of the design. The larger one is also much too large for backpacking. I hope you’ve learned by now that either of the small rings on the sides are meant to be lifted and locked over one of the scissored handles in order to hold them down. Happy trails!
That peach satin does bring out the color of your eyes though. LOL
Vomit
Came back to watch this again, and it still made me giggle - that music!!! funny stuff
Those two square rings on the side are used to hold the bails down.
Can you tell me how?, because I always wondered what they where for and how to use them.
@@Jonsoh811 I should have said I believe, since I don’t own the kettle.
I looks to me that you flip the D rings up to catch point of the bail.
The only other use I can think of is to hold a strap to secure the lid.
@@Jonsoh811 When you fold the handles down, press the top one down and place the rectangular ring over it (the center bent portion) to hold both handles!
@@DevilDog68 confirm that. Keeps from rattling. Lid still rattles.
I have had my eagle products kettle for about a year (the larger one) one of my most prized pieces of my kit. Love it! 🌲🌲🏕🌲🌲
You know... that cup gives a whole new meaning to "cup o Joe!" LOL! Barkeepers Friend gets that soot off my kettle really well. I use the paste. All the best!
Glad you and your family are well, Ernie! Been thinking about you during the storm! Best wishes -
Ernie, also LOVE the fact that the .7L kettle stows inside the 1.1L MSR Stowaway pot!
I purchased three from Badger Claw. Two of the small and one of the large. He didn't include the original bag with any of them. Maybe he used them to make something comfortable to wear around the house. Hey Ernie, use the rectangular loops on the side to hold those handles down. It packs real nice if you do that.
Nice little kettle, Ernie. Good to know you made it through Laura. I hope you're buckled up for Delta.
Thanks for showing us the kettle. Take care.
Yeah that’s a traditional camping coffee pot around here, made for cowboy coffee but used for many things.
I doubt it’s made in Norway by the way, we have very little industry here due to cost. I guess they design and have it made in Asia like everyone else, while being tight on quality. (Poor quality simply wont sell here, so that choice is easy.)
I guess it’s something of a specialty in the US, as they cost half as much here. But by all means, if it’s popular I guess the price will go down. Eagle Products sell to a fairly small market, so if one of their products suddenly get international traction they may not be very well prepared for it. But it’s good quality traditional things they sell so maybe they’ll grow with time, as popular as bushcraft is getting to be lately? In Scandinavia, this has long been part of what we call “friluftsliv» (metning «free air life») and there’s many reasons (such as easy access to the local woods) as to why lightweight equipment may not really be necessary. So the old stuff has continued on in the market, in its own silent way.
Another thing you can try, for heating and frying in an open fire, is their wok pan. As a round bottomed pan is much easier to use in something as non-flat as a fire.
The waxed canvas bag is $20 and that's the way Badger Claw rolls.
I have the .750 & 1.50 Kettles, both from Badger Claw and love them. Mine shipped with the waxed canvas cases also. John Maynard at Badger Claw has outstanding customer service and is a downright terrific person. Much of my gear I have purchased through him. I like supporting our US cottage industries wherever I can. He has always treated me very well.
Just got it this last week! Couldn't be happier with it. Thanks!
Great video. Love your videos. Thanks for your time.
Great video.
You said it, you want to feel cool.
Putting a layer of dish soap on the outside allows it to maintain its shiny appearance- black wipes right off after use
Hey Ernie and everyone. Another good video.as usual. If you haven't yet thought of it, you could always add a short piece of metal tubing to extend the pour spout. The factory spout did seem real short as you said.
Anyway, thank you for all you do in life and here on UA-cam.
Stay safe and Cool Runnings everyone 😎😁
I like to, also, watch Cimber Bushcraft on YT and he has one of these styles of kettles. He made a small copper spout for his. You may want to check it out and maybe make one also. He is from that area of the world, Denmark I think.
Yes he lives in Denmark.
Thank u !
Hi Ernie, saw your video and also noticed that this kettle appears a lot on the euro and scandi outdoor channels. Can't get them out here in Malaysia but I did source them from Ray Mears' Woodlore shop back home in the UK. Ordered my 1.5 litre one on Monday afternoon this week and my Eagle landed this Friday lunchtime, 4 days later! Awesome service👌. The kettle is a work of art and built to last. Have used it a couple of times in the kitchen at home already but plan to take it out in the field to use it in the next couple of days. Quality kit built to last a lifetime. One very happy camper 😎
Check out the Kelly Kettle if you haven’t already.
BTW: I bought the bigger one, 1.5 liter. There is one even larger, historically. They are selling these in Canada through a company who doesn't ship to USA. And a place in Great Britain that does. Wish I would have purchased the small one thru Badger also.
hi ernie, i had this one in my sights for a while too but couldn't get over the enormous price tag. and then i saw this ss kettel from fire maple antarcti on aliexpress and went for it. it's very sturdy and works well on my induction plate at home too (which is important for me). i made a few tweaks to the handle and locking system so that the lid won't fall out when pouring the last drop out but then again nothing is really perfect. i paid about €25 ($29 us) for it but would prefer it a little bit less bombproof in order to keep the weight down but all in all i'm very pleased with it's super quality. oh yes, it also has a small pouring spout so that's good ;)
all the best, neil
I have the 1.5 L Eagle products kettle from Badger Claw outfitters. The have great products and excellent customer service. I to have say and agree with that factory bag has a lot left to be desired. When you combine Badger claw's and factory bag-it does allow you to have a good double protection carrying system. I use it around the house for boiling water for tea.
Great review! I concur that Badger Claw is awesome... Great gear and great customer service.
I wanted a replacement kettle for the aluminum one I have had for years for truck camping. I recently did a search on my local Craigslist site for All-Clad as I am changing out all my pots and pans for that brand. (Bloody good stuff if you know how to care for stainless) Behold, a lady was "redecorating" her kitchen and was selling two All-Clad stainless kettles. They retail for $99 on Amazon. Got TWO of them for $15 each, essentially unused. One goes in the kitchen, the other is heading to the back of the rusty Suburban for the next truck camping night. Too heavy for the trail, but so is my adult beverage ration.
When I got mine, I couldn't find it anywhere, but Ray Mears' site had one left and I snatched that one up and they were out of stock after that. Great kettle.
That's where I got mine..it said 3 left.
I have the 1.5 kettle . I found that you can store plenty of food ect inside .the trangia strap helps when you fold the handles down just feed through the rings.the copper wares away after a while
Nice job Ernie
Pack strap is twisted. Great kettle. Another hurricane is headed your way.
Yep 😏 .. I saw the Pack Strap .. niggled somewhat.
Similar to seeing somebody in the Mall with a Shirt / Blouse Label sticking out the top of their collar ..
One gets an urge to walk up and 'dress' it for them, like with one's Spouse .. but noooo .. dare not 😁.
John from Badger Claw is a top notch!
Night gown for your kettle 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Awesome product Boss. Thanks for sharing!
Pathfinder has something bet you'd like
Thanks for the review but I’ll stick with my GSI stainless kettle for half the price and I love it🏕 have you reviewed the Pathfinder stainless kettle?
I have that kettle!! I saved for a long time..it was hard to justify the money for "another kettle" then shipped from UK. I LOVE IT!!!!! I hate to say I use it daily but cant bring myself to put it over fire..I use it on alcohol..propane..butane etc. I got a grey nylon case with mine. Saving for a waxed canvas
They need to fix the spout. Impossible to pour without spilling.
I agree with your critique. I have the same kettle. But, like you, I also like it anyway. I do wish they would slightly lengthen and reshape the spout.
Should check out the volcano kettle, it looks like a thermos flask, but it has a hollow middle going top to bottom, you dont need a stove for it, you put twigs etc in the middle and burn them to heat the water
Whichever handle is on top goes into that side D ring. Then both handles lay flat.
I will stick with my trangia kettle. The handle folds out of the way and the pouring spout has a better shape.
Tony the Toad agree, plus it fits in your system if you have one, and cheaper.
LOL! When you fold the handles down, press the top one down and place the rectangular ring over it (the center bent portion) to hold both handles! 👍
Somebody else told me, thanks!!!
I agree that the 1.5 litre model is rather more practical for most people.
Cute little orange mini-tarp you were kneeling on. What is it, and what do you normally use it for?
It serves as an emergency flag but has multiple purposes. ua-cam.com/video/BnC-MhTvMWo/v-deo.html
Thank you Robin!
An interesting kettle. I’m new to your videos and appreciate your personable and honest presentations. Greetings from the UK.
Nice kettle! The stainless steel gsi is nice as well. I like the large opening, easy to clean and store my coffee kit in.
LOL! I didn't get the nightgown, I got a really noisy nylon one. Fortunately I have a nice waxed cotton bag it'll fit in. I got the smaller version too, jury is still out.
Great review 👏 Ernie, as always another great product 👍 I will hope to purchase one, I pray that you and your family will be safe, with another Hurricane coming your way, it might already be there, please know that I'm always praying for you and your family. Thank you Brother. Sincerely your freind from Mo Rick and God bless you and your family
Need to check out pathfinder kittle before you buy the larger one . Built basically the same but 2. 1 I think . Like mine
Fabulous kettles I have one size up and like you say that bag would be great on a catwalk, I made my own out of an old dry as a bone wax jacket, love the video
Yes, other countries don't have as strict rules about telling you manufacturer origin. Nice. Bought 3 of the 1.7 or 1.5 liter. Badger Claw sells the waxed canvas bag for $20 or $30. They include for a little more, but not as expensive as full price. Awesome bag. He normally doesn't include the pretty one.
BTW: what I was hinting at was that probably made in China. Like the stove, too. PRC, too.
Time to try a Kelly Kettle. :)
I have the big stainless one. Not light by a longshot, but it will take care of an entire group's hot water needs.
Oh....well....maybe I got one :) Stay tuned
Awesome kettle and use as a hobo stove
Uffda dets a fine kettle but the bag looks like Olgas' pantaloons.
LOL!!!
I have used my 1.5ltr Eagle kettle a few times now and was initially pleased with it. However, the copper bottom is only dipped and the copper quickly disappears when cleaned revealing a paper thin stainlesss steel base underneath which pops when heated and does not stand level. It also drips when pouring! I purchased this on the recommendations of several UA-cam reviews but I certainly cannot recommend it. I am going to order a Petromax kettle to replace it. It is heavy but I feel it is better quality......we'll see.
It was very cool to see the kettle. Im sure its made well too . Living in Indiana i understand that with us being in Tornado Ally what it can do to our forests. Just try to remember that it also helps the animals with having structure to hide in . Thats what I always say when a tornado comes through. Anyways great video as always ! Take care and stay safe my friend !!!!
They look nice
Being Norwegian myself, here is how we make coffee! A few heaps of coffee into the kettle with the boiling water. Boil away and pour. Black of course. No milk, will put hair on your chest. If you desire a few sugar cubes. Dipped and sucked. Heaven!
That in America is called boiled coffee or cowboy coffee. A few heaps of regular grind coffee for general use, boil for 4-5 minutes then pour on some cold water to settle the grounds . Of all the methods to make camp coffee I now prefer percolating coffee, smooth and strong coffee .
Ótimo vídeo Parabéns 👍👍
A good review .. thanks. I have seen another You Tuber using the same brand kettle. Yes, the Spout looks a bit out of place .. sort of a last minute add-on.
For me, the best kettle (or any piece of kit) is the one that one is using, has been paid for without the eyes watering and one is quite happy with the product.
Beware of the grass on the other side or just over the horizon. Horizon's tend to be endless.
Take care ..
I got mine from woodlore (Ray mears) in the UK, I instantly got rid of slinky gown and replaced it with a waxed canvas bag from 'the bushcraft store'
Great channel! Have been wanting an eagle kettle for years, but didn’t want to fork over the dough. Also, the GSI kettlest was my next runner up. Been looking for a while and found it reasonably priced at quest outdoors in Louisville, KY. Bought the kettlest this morning.
Also, kettles aren't just for boiling water. We actually cook coffee in the kettles. Otherwise stick with at regular pot with a lid and you can use it for other stuff too. If you only do pour overs - don't bother with a kettle. check this one to see how it's done: ua-cam.com/video/hCbE0Gq0VV4/v-deo.html
Video starts @ 02:27 cutting out all the faff.
Keith titanium 1l kettle is my fav
Seriously Cowboy lookin' coffee there : )
Kettle lingerie at 4:00 😂
Great video! Glad to see you continually expand your reviews, this time to include an international product. Love the wax bag. Want to make one. If you want to sell your smaller stove, I'll buy it from you. :)
Worth it? ....meh, not to me. I have seen one being used, and another by FireMaple. We talked about them because they were at the same campfire. Both heat water. That's the important part. Both hold about the same amount of liquid, with the FireMaple a bit more. Both use spot welds to assemble the bail mounts. Time will tell if those hold with heat expansion then rapid cooling of the thin metal. This caveat includes the seal between the lower container and the top disc. Both use 18/8 stainless. The differences were:
1) FireMaple has a tad taller spout and does not dribble when pouring a full kettle for the first cup. To avoid that, the user had to be a bit more assertive when first tipping the Eagle. A minor thing, perhaps even a nothing. ...prob'ly a nothing.
2) Copper cladding is a cool feature, but totally not needed for a water heater, or a soup kettle. Copper cladding is a feature for a saucepan or a fry pan to better distribute heat and avoid hot spots associated with thin stainless-steel pans. So, just a thing you pay extra for in the case of a water kettle.
3) The FireMaple has a thicker wire bail that spring-locks into detents in the upright position for easy, no wiggle handling when pouring. I liked that a lot. I witnessed the Eagle owner fumbling a bit to get control of the separate bails on his. More sure handling is a good thing with a very hot item.
Both are very nice bits of kit, but my money is on the one I can obtain in a timely manner, and at a better price for equal performance.
What backpack are you using in this video? Looks like exactly what I want.
u should cook the coffe directly in the kettle...
All camp tea pots have the same flaw, wene poring the last bit, the hot lid pops up to bite you :( sadly looks like this one does the same thing. (a loose lid biter)
A while back (July 24 . 2018 , Is This the Best Kettle , Expedition Research vs Trangia Kettle ) You did a review on the Expedition Research anodized aluminum kettle. As luck would work I was looking for a kettle to use when camping. I got one and will not trade it for any other , it is the Best. Especially like the 90 degree pour with the lid staying on it offers a camper.
Why would you need heat distribution when boiling water?
Will this kettle fit into the Trangia windshield as an alternative to the original kettle?
Have you tried the 1.2 Stainless Steel Kettle from the Pathfinder store? I have on and it's served me well, though I've only used it on the stove top. It doesn't have a copper bottome but it has dual handles that fold better and a real spout with a screen in the spout and a screen basket insert so you can brew loos leaf tea or coarsely ground coffee in it.
i have 1 liter and 2 liter kettle small use hiking lonely and big uses car trip. 1 liter have perfect size, all other have totally too small boil water, tea and coffee and food.water. if need small amount water no fill full but 1 liter have backbag perfect size.
If you get/have gotten the larger model would you consider seller the smaller version? I'm a neighbor to you in MS

Between hurricanes and fires our wild lands have taken a beating ☹️
Best to clear the area close to your stove, fire hazard regardless of humidity.
PaleoHickerMD have you tried the Kelly kettle it's available in stainless Steel or aluminium and comes with the added feature of you don't need to build a separate fire to use it its like a bushbox and kettle in one giving you the option of having a separate fire for cooking and leaving your kettle to boil ready for breakfast 😉
They’re so compact and stow away so well - not
@@deltamour6630 well del it really depends on what you are up to when you are heading out like every thing in life it has its place
Louisiana best food in the country.
Hi Ernie! I see this Eagle Products teapot pot as a giant Trangia alcohol stove. Feel free to turn it into that if you want to. I have not seen anyone try it yet. :)
I just use a titanium mug as my “kettle”. 🤷🏼♂️
Un fortunately not available ANYWHERE! John a Badger Claw has virtually given up on Eagle as a supplier. Ray Mears went OOS as soon as I tried to order one. UKTactical wanted almost $100 to send me a .7L incl s&h. I'm almost ready to settle for a SS GSI kettle foe under $25! Anybody know where I might be able to get my hands on an Eagle .7L?!
I'm wondering if that would stow inside an MSR 1.1 L Stowaway?!
Just got one of them kettles 1.5l for 24$ is that a good deal
Nice kettle. Do you have a link for that filter ? Afraid y’all have a rain maker to y’all this time . I’m twenty minutes west of the Sabine and it’s been raining and gusting since this morning. . Have a great evening
I found it . Thanks
It's a kettle Buy a pot with a lid or make one a lid = same difference. With a pot you can do much more...
Holy sh#tballs dude, you are a gadget geek. 🤣😂. Try the Kelly Kettle. Their setup is sick!
Petromax or Ghillie or Kelly Kettle are superior
That kettle bag would be more fitting in a 70s porn movie or the Blue Oyster Bar.
