Thank you for the kind words! You are very welcome. It's my pleasure really, I think it's easy to see when watching my videos that I thoroughly enjoy my work 👍 so I owe a big ”Thank you!" to you and all my other customers who make it possible for me to continue following my passions!
Firebox nano is my most used-I have 2 of the SS nanos and 1 of the Gen 2 5 inch with all the accessories. Have used now for 3 years with no issues. Steve with Firebox stoves is awesome and has a great company.
I have the steel version also and also love this stove. Even though the steel is a little heavier, it is still lightweight. I use my trangia with it also and works great. Well worth the price. Highly recommended.
The Nano is my favorite. No parts that can fall off and get lost. Versatile to use with any fuel but white gas. Compact and light, even in stainless. Leaves little to be desired.
Yes. Yes, it is. I have 3 wood stoves (Lixada tower stove, firebox nano, and emberlit fireant) and this is my favorite. The x-case makes it even better. I like that, for 7 ounces, I can add this to my existing cook kit (alky stove and Ti pot/cup - 10 oz) and the alky stove is now a backup (less fuel needed), and the whole thing is still about a pound. This stove is crazy versatile, works great, packs small, and weighs less than almost all other debris stoves.
With the fathers day discount code on their site. I just picked up the Ti nano and Xbox kit , then added the Nesbit plate and the ti handle guard with free shipping for 75 bucks. Made my day. Thanks for the video Ernie.
Based on your videos of the Firebox Nano, I bought a stainless steel Nano G2 from the scoutshop here in Norway. Most bang for the buck IMHO. I recently bought a round stove but would rather have a more compact one without fiddling too much to set it up (I've seen the stove puzzles on ebay). Can't wait to use it this weekend.
Hello Ernie! First and foremost I absolutely love watching your videos. As a kid we used to bake some potatoes in open fire, enjoy the nature, grilled some meat sometimes. Living in Europe - specifically Germany - where making fire is strongly regulated (usually you are not allowed to) this is something I miss a lot. Just ordered a Nano Gen 2 Titanium with Trangia alcohol stove + Trangia gas burner and a few accessories including the solid fuel plate. Considering that power outages / blackouts are possible in the next months (due to the war in Ukraine and energy crisis), this will be our backup for boiling water and some basic cooking (we live in a city and use electrical stove to cook; charcoal grills are not allowed where we live). Additionally I ordered some solid fuel + gel fuel and a BCB burner and build an alcohol stove similar to yours. Keep up the good work and God bless
I started with the Stainless Steel version and after a couple of years replaced it with the Titanium version. The Titanium Nano Gen 2 in the X Case will fit inside my Maxi Titanium Canteen cup. I also fit a Evernew Titanium alcohol burner in there. It makes a nice , complete , package. Only complaint I have and I do not use is the carbon felt as a wind screen. It's not needed since the titanium Nano Flame guard. doubles as the wind protector. As you pointed out the flame guard also keeps the handle of the canteen cup cool. I use it as a support for the backside of the cup. I like to use Titanium because it cools really quick and is light. Now if Firebox would only have a Titanium X case. I still have the Stainless Steel Nano and Trangia and it's in my loner section.
I try the pot before lighting the fuel. That way you don’t have to risk turning the wire feet around while a fire is burning. Also as good practice, wash kit and lightly oil it to prevent rust/stains. Any veg oil is fine, any animal fat is fine. WD40 in the hinges and maybe the Xbox helps maintain your kit.
After watching this videos with Firebox Nano I found out that I needed one. Bought Nano G2 stainless steel with X-box case from the Scout shop and use it as often as I can. Even wet twigs will dry up and burn. I usually don't use the nano sticks or the windcloth, so they are at home and I have a small lighter and something to catch fire in there instead.
True, but in many ways it makes sense. To add them in would increase the cost a little, and not everyone is going to use those. As it comes, it's a great kit. If you don't want to shell out for the solid fuel plate, use a soup can lid (just smooth the edge). I small piece of heavy duty foil makes a good substitute for the flame guard. The carbon felt wind screen comes with the kit. It's pricey, for sure, but if you spend a lot of time on the trail or in the back country, you are going to want to invest in a good stove kit. If you use a Pocket Rocket type gas stove, you'll spend $20 - $40 on the stove, and $7 on every gas can you buy to fuel it. Over time you'll end up spending more that way. Just food for thought. And it's fun using wood stoves.
Great video, thanks for putting this out there. A couple of tips . . . Bring along a pocket billows, it really save the eyes and throat from the smoke and helps when the twigs aren't 100% dry (which is most of the time for me). Replace the felt with a piece of sturdy aluminum flashing. I actually used a piece I cut out of a disposable aluminum turkey pan. It bends nicely to fit in the case and light and reasonably durable. The "L" sticks work great to peg it into the ground. I made a wax impregnated rope as a match (water proof). There are plenty of videos out there on how to make them. It's easy to start it with your ferro rod (also water proof). It's easy to manipulate near the bottom of the nano and completes and awesome system. Cheers!
I love my steel Nano. Best stove ever. But I can’t justify the Ti money to save 2 Ounces! If the “extra weight” is that much of an issue I’d question your fitness to be out there anyway!
I love mine too, though I got the stainless steel one. I modified mine a bit, and would like to see my mods as part of the manufacture by firebox. I cut my own fuel plate, and drilled holes in it for bottom ventilation. I also drilled holes, in the body of the stove so I could put pins (sections of a clothes hanger wire I cut) to just go horizontally across the stove. It holds the plate much more stably, and more significantly, I can raise or lower it a bit for using charcoal (I break charcoal and it only takes 3-5 halves to grill a couple hamburgers), and for my homemade alcohol stove (a 1oz size aluminum tin with screw on lid, with a round piece of 1/4 inch thick carbon felt (or two)). The horizontally placed holes/pins also keep the stove more stable/less likely to fold when the bottom plate is lifted up for using the swedish fire torch method. Its a really fun little stove. And, I agree, it's a great company, with a lot of good products.
Agreed! The fact that there is no assembly, just open it up, and that there are so many options: twigs, solid fuel, alcohol, and a gas burner head. It's always good to have options! Thanks for another superb video!
Same stove. Can’t beat the size for a wood burner. Love the flexibility. First and only wood stove I bought and have never had to buy another (unlike so much of the gear I have bought! 😕🤭).
I have the steel version and love it. It lives in my brew bag with a pocket bellows (essential item) and a pair of gardening secateurs. LAst summer I fed myself for a week using this stove as my sole cooking source. It handled everything from a quick cup of tea to a full morning fry up.
I’m so glad I’m not the only one that uses garden shears to cut twigs for my twig stoves. They cut so easily and precisely and are just a fit for my obsessive compulsive need for neatness. I also use a Solo Stove with a Swiss fire bundle, no muss no fuss. I also have and like my Firebox. Texas
I have the Gen2 steel. It's heavy, but it's big enough to cook for more than one person, and folds into almost nothing. I love that thing so much. I used to use a gasifier, and couldn't stand it. It was so finicky, had to lift thenpot to put wood in, and every time I did it would smoke like crazy...... Firebox (full size) you can feed on the go, burns crazy hot, has the option for a grill, bottle support, can be used with wood, wood pellets, charcoal, wood, can be used with alcohol stove.....just miles ahead of the competition. One day I'll get the nano, because I'm often alone, but I can't afford it right now.
Pocket bellows is a definite PLUS! Also on that fuel plate, you can put a piece of Match Light charcoal on it. I have the SS Nano X-Case as well as the full sized Firebox (haven't tried that one yet). I got some branches and cut them about 4-5 inches long then batoned them so I can make a sweedish fire in either one. Plus broke up a trash can full of twigs (hardwood ones actually). All sitting in the garage seasoning (they were dead and dry to begin with but not seasoned). HINT: Get some SS skewers (flat ones, about 8-12" long) from wallyworld. Poke them at an angle to stabilize the stove or or poke straight through if you can to stabilize the stove on the ground when not using the case. Even the Nano suffers from instability issues on uneven or soft ground with top heavy containers. To control the heat a bit, place the fuel plate on top of the pot wires then the pot on top of that.
One of my favorite and probably my most-used piece of gear. Nano + Trangia burner = bombproof cooking system. The Ti Nano by itself (no accessories) weighs 4 oz. and the Stainless version is 6. I am still saving up for the Ti version of the 5", but I still love my stainless one too. Be well, Ernie.
@@highdesertbiker I ALWAYS use the yellow Heet bottles. You can get the generic stuff from a dollar store and it works fine for less $. Some people use denatured alcohol or methanol, but I don't need that much and I know the yellow stuff burns the cleanest, so my pots don't get sooty.
Great review. I thought it a bit expensive at first. I bought a stainless steel version as didn't mind extra weight. Having got it I think it's great value. Precision made, solidly built (in a pre-rust-belt, classic American way) and a good, adaptable design. The thing that won me over with FireBox is the use of 18 gauge steel - OK, it's heavier but this means it won't warp over time. So many others warp. So a cheaper one could be a false economy. When something is high quality it's a real investment and a pleasure to use.
People ask ...Is it worth buying ? Yes , it's all I use ...but , if your A backpacker .. Go buy yourself A canteen with a cooking cup that slides on the bottom and buy a squeezable life straw and feel your canteen, when your around water 💧 even mud puddles and you will enjoy your backpacking trip ...I've got all those stoves...but , I use my nano Firebox...it's a little pricey..but , it's worth it...when your 20 miles in the wilderness ? Good video
Been using my Gen 2 titanium Nano for two years now and it’s amazing. Alcohol stove as an alternative is amazing to have the option. Sale with esbit tabs. I find the torch the best in terms of leaving it to burn without constant feeding, but also charcoal works well in this too. Bellows really helps as well. They make larger windscreens as well which is great in some situations. Thanks for the video!
Great video. Please remember that when you say phrases like “the price right now in November“ and you don’t say what year it is, we have to extrapolate from comment posts, etc. Right now the price is $79.99. I’m leaving this comment on March 22, 2022.
You need a blow tube! You can use a telescopic antenna. Mine is made from a telescopic wienie fork. (From Coghlans, I think). Really helps to get that fire roaring! Much better than kneeling down and blowing!
My goto stove as well. So flexible in regards to fuel, charcoal and wood pellets (with a piece of foil in the bottom) also works well. Primarily use with the trangia alcohol stove but knowing there is always an alternative is great.
I love my firebox wood stoves. I have the original nano. Love it for camping and backpacking. I have the full sized firebox for cooking outside on my patio and for camping and cooking for a couple people. I also have a wood gas stove. But that’s for car camping or at home. It’s incredible for boiling water. The firebox is more versatile. Thanks for posting about the titanium version. I gave a cheap titanium stove and it’s pretty worthless except for boiling water for tea or backpacking meal. Smokes like crazy cuz it’s a poor design. Very flimsy too. Glad to hear your input
I have the stainless versions of both the Nano and the "big, somewhat heavy" Firebox. I love them both. I am going to stick with the stainless Nano for the time being, as it is only a bit heavier than the Ti, but a titanium Firebox stove would be awesome! I guess I'd better get in line! Thanks for sharing. :-)
I wish the case was made of aluminum! Other than that, the Ti Nano is my goto stove. And I have too many twig stoves. But, i haven't acquired any more wood stoves since my Ti Nano. Might say it's the end all stove for me.
I don't have one of these but I've used biomass stoves often enough to know that smoke can be a real problem. As often as not the user finishes up smelling like a barrel of smoked eels. The nano seems to require a lot of effort to start and keep going. It looks great and has lots of innovations but she's a smoker. I may buy one and perhaps be proved wrong. But for my upcoming Christmas break it'll be my Svea 123. Thanks for your channel which I enjoy very much.
I think you would like the Trail Designs Ti-Tri. It is easy to feed, very stable, holds a lot more fuel, is more efficient because it gassifies, and it casts fewer sparked ashes. The only drawback is that you must use fitted pots or cups...kinda'.
Awesome review Ernie. Thanks for sharing. I like that you use things at least five times before doing a review. I just passed on a boot review earlier today 'cause the guy just took 'em right out of the box started his review. How can he do a review? He knows nothing about them! Thanks again!
Wow. Thanks for another superb video on this great product, doc. Firebox is the only comparable stove that is hinged for super easy set up. I get annoyed at having to assemble puzzles.
Love my Firebox Nano. Can't say I'd want to add the weight for a trangia burner. My Evernew doesn't fit well. Add having to pack alcohol and it's simply a non starter.
Love these stoves... own both sizes, now considering the Ti for that extra 2 ounces of weight saving LOL. Agree with the comment on the "unboxing reviews" !
Maybe you know about this but at the end when you put the nanosticks In The stove to put away there is a better way. to do it you pop up the bottom of the stove then put the longer stick on the right side of the side with engraving on it then you put the shorter stick in right next to the longer one then fold the stove up this locks them into place and makes them sit flush to the top and bottom of the stove
I have the Bushbuddy and love it! I'm sure the nano is great but I am perfectly happy with what I have been using for years. Your reviews hit it out of the park. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for all the great videos! BTW, you need a pocket bellows. I live in Mississippi so every thing is wet here too and building a fire can be quite challenging at times.
I have ad my Ti Nano for a few years now and love it. A very well thought out piece of gear. Mostly I use it with the Trangia alcohol stove. But it’s also a fantastic twig burner. And if you do it correctly, the Swedish fire torch method works great ! Cheers !
I have a Überleben Stöker (Lixada clone) as my twig stove, works wonders. Sure the Firebox does too. As others have said, some cheap collapsable bellows are ideal. I used to puff directly, but the bellows are insane!!
I agree with you on all points. To add emphasis to your review points, it is versatile in your choice of combustible materials. I watch all of Steve’s videos and he routinely uses charcoal and the Trangia alcohol burner. You mentioned the Trangia gas burner, but the alcohol burner is super convenient. I have the stainless steel versions of the nano and the full size. I just put on my big boy boots and ask my wife to help me lift it. Just kidding, although I don’t have a weight fetish. Thanks for your excellent videos. March on.
I love this I have a fire ant titanium that is great, so I cannot justify a new titanium wood burner. However were i to do it again this would be my choice. Light effective multifunctional love it!
I love the firebox line. I have used the fuel plate and trangia with it. Takes a minute to learn how to get the wood burning part of it but otherwise i like them both...
@@notquiteultralight1701 I really like it. It has some issues just like the rest of the twig stoves. Needs more air circulation holes on the sides and it does sit a little low to the ground for the bottom vents, but the design is amazing. If Vargo upgraded the stove it would be the best on the market. I love the design and know how to use it to it's fullest potential. If the mentioned issues were redesigned, I would like it better than the bush buddy, and that's saying a lot.
@@ravenoutdoors8623 that’s really helpful. I’m kind of a stick stove junky🤓😬 i have both emberlits, the nano and of course, the solo stove. The solo stove is the only one i go backpacking with! It just starts right up no problem! I don’t know why these two companies can’t just join forces. Bush buddy and solo stove. Again, great yo hear about the vargo! Thank you sir
I'm debating on a stove to get. I hike, camp at my families ranch and just want a all around stove. If you had to chose between the firebox nano titanium or the 5 inch firebox titanium. Which one. I want to pair It with a Billy pot and possible canteen kit.
I have a solo stove and its excellent, just kind of bulky compared the titanium nano, which I also have. Like them both, but for weight and pack ability and fuel options the Nano would be my choice. But the Solo lights up on a dime and brings a boil quicker.
My favorite wood stove is the one I made from a soup can and some nuts and bolts. Triples as a smudge pot ,ember carrier! Thanks for the video. And yes editing is the darkside side of UA-cam lol
Nano Firebox is just ok as I see it.... I trust my "Solo Stove" for less smoke, better stability. The less weight and size the Nano Firebox offers is not a major factor. I don't want my food and water to fall over by an unstable stove.
As a former native Louisianian, (South of I-10 tho), I have a huge interest in getting prepped and in shape for elevation changes at altitude. Any thoughts of doing a video on this sort of thing? I saw the pain of Northern Arkansas on your face a couple of vids back - and wonder if anything has changed or if you are taking steps to prepare for another higher altitude trip? Rock on man, love your content!
Great video! Just wondering if you have ever tried the Swedish torch method with the Nano, works very well and no need to refuel for quite a while. Cheers.
Great Video Dr. Ernie! I love the firebox Titanium Nano stove too! I really liked seeing you cook using a canteen cup. You have lots of gear and choose what to use for which specific trip and leave the rest home like I do. I really like my canteen cups and the stands. You can use twigs in them, sold fuel esbit tabs in them, or a trangia in the stand. Have you done any videos cooking or discussing, or both, using your canteen cups and stove stands? Keep on cooking and hiking Dr. Ernesto. I haven't seen enough of your videos to know what the paleo thing is in the name of your channel. I've eaten paleo freeze dried backpacking meals, kinda like a mountain house meal, but what's the deal with the paleo food or in the name of the channel?
I think you're making the fire in the wrong sequence. ember on the bottom, kindling next, twigs, sticks, then largest pieces on top. This will give you some hot coals and will keep the fire going. At least this is my process. I like to get my fire really hot first, then cook.
Yessir Ernie, I would love to see a review of that kuksa! Looks awesome! I do really want to get the titanium but I have the ss nano for now. Thanks for the review buddy!

I love my steel Nano. Best stove ever. But I can’t justify the Ti money to save 2 Ounces! If the “extra weight” is that much of an issue I’d question your fitness to be out there anyway!
If you say that twenty times you will have a noticeable change in weight. It is worth it if you already are shaving lots of ounces from other gear.
I reckon my shoes wear out by an ounce each trip……..
Ounces make pounds. But with the titanium I feel it's worth it for the corrosion resistance. Stainless definitely will rust if not cared for

I have that stove and really like it!!! Great video thanks!!!
Mine arrived in the mail yesterday.... don't need to tell ya what I'll be doing today... like a kid on Christmas morning!!!
Is there any negative (other than cost) to the Titanium version of the stove vs the Stainless Steel version?
Great video. Please remember that when you say phrases like “the price right now in November“ and you don’t say what year it is, we have to extrapolate from comment posts, etc. Right now the price is $79.99. I’m leaving this comment on March 22, 2022.
You need a blow tube! You can use a telescopic antenna. Mine is made from a telescopic wienie fork. (From Coghlans, I think). Really helps to get that fire roaring! Much better than kneeling down and blowing!
Get yourself a telescopic bellows, those things are awesome.
I have the stainless version..I LOVE IT!!!! a couple days ago I got the big firebox..have not gotten out to use it yet...but I will soon
My goto stove as well.
So flexible in regards to fuel, charcoal and wood pellets (with a piece of foil in the bottom) also works well. Primarily use with the trangia alcohol stove but knowing there is always an alternative is great.
Great review on an excellent American made product. Saving up for mine.
I liked the Ti Firebox Nano so much that I got another one. I’m gonna grab the full size Ti stove from Steve one of these days.
Love your videos. You helped steer me away from a clone trangia into the original and now most likely a firebox. Keep up the great videos
Me too! 😀
My favorite stove company.
Great video! Next time though, maybe a little coffee in that cream ;-P
Ha!
I've got the full size titanium firebox, great stoves! I also have a pocket bellows with the cookset, which helps with avoiding the smoke!
Might say it's the end all stove for me.
this guy is a legend!
thank you for all of the content! omg
I managed to get the 94th(out of 100 ) 5 inch titanium fire box stove of the first production run!
One of my favorites. I have the 5" Gen 2 as well. Very good stoves. 👍👍👍👍
Thank you for all the great videos! BTW, you need a pocket bellows. I live in Mississippi so every thing is wet here too and building a fire can be quite challenging at times.
Absolutely the best thing I've bought for my nano and for other stoves.
I knew you were going to say the stove was fantastic. I think I’m clairvoyant? It works as a little stove but it isn’t worth the price. There, done!
Takes a minute to learn how to get the wood burning part of it but otherwise i like them both...
agree with ya i have that unit and the big unit both are great from Firebox good service with those guys also take care be safe Ernie
Bush Buddy is my favorite. I need to try this one. I only use two stoves, the Bush Buddy and the Vargo hexagon. Thanks for the review.
How do you like that vargo?
Spend a dollar or 2 on a SS extending pipe straw to blow in the stove and stay 20 inches away from smoke.
Ordered mine & the xcase
Getting the SS version, soon! Very excited!
I'm debating on a stove to get. I hike, camp at my families ranch and just want a all around stove. If you had to chose between the firebox nano titanium or the 5 inch firebox titanium. Which one. I want to pair It with a Billy pot and possible canteen kit.
Great video, I have had mine also for a few years. Never had a problem with it. Would buy another one in a heartbeat.
I have a solo stove and its excellent, just kind of bulky compared the titanium nano, which I also have. Like them both, but for weight and pack ability and fuel options the Nano would be my choice. But the Solo lights up on a dime and brings a boil quicker.
Combine this with that $13 multi-tool with shears, and a tin cup, and you have a kitchen in a pocket!
My favorite wood stove is the one I made from a soup can and some nuts and bolts. Triples as a smudge pot ,ember carrier! Thanks for the video.
And yes editing is the darkside side of UA-cam lol
Since you bought the kit, you received a Chinese made stove. Is there stamping somewhere on the stove marking it as such?
Hi, Thanks for the videos, informative and interesting.
The X case is not Aluminium.
I’ve had mine about the same amount of time. I love it, I don’t use it as much as I should. I’ll probably use it this weekend after watching this
Nano Firebox is just ok as I see it.... I trust my "Solo Stove" for less smoke, better stability. The less weight and size the Nano Firebox offers is not a major factor. I don't want my food and water to fall over by an unstable stove.
You, my friend, need the Pocket Bellows in your kit.
Hi, which alcohol stove did you find works best with the firebox nano?
Great Review as always, I like all of fire box products, God bless America. Thank you and God bless you and your family
Well I have 3 TI Nanos and 1 SS Nano so I guess for me it’s worth it lol I think I might order another but who knows.
Awesome review! I've had mine for a couple years now and love it.
This video convinced me to purchase. Thank you! (liked and subscribed too)
I’m very happy with my solo stove lite....
Cheers.
Great Video i have just order the X-case will work great and helps to keep all together great thanks
I hope you do a revue on the X cook set
Good stove. Since California hates open flame I use the Trangia gas. What kind of troll thumbs downs a stove review?
I think you're making the fire in the wrong sequence. ember on the bottom, kindling next, twigs, sticks, then largest pieces on top. This will give you some hot coals and will keep the fire going. At least this is my process.
I like to get my fire really hot first, then cook.
Yessir Ernie, I would love to see a review of that kuksa! Looks awesome! I do really want to get the titanium but I have the ss nano for now. Thanks for the review buddy!
You make good videos..
Thank you!
6:15 that’s what she said.
Try using a straw for a blower, or a pocket bellows 😁👍✝️🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷
