My mother recently passed away, and we would always watch your videos and joolz guide when it came to New York City history and London history thanks for posting this new video it brings good memories. And as someone who was born and raised in New York still there is interesting history I learned every day.
The first time I went to NYC on my own was in 1977. I had an idea that I might stay in the Village. My aunt wanted me to meet a friend and colleague of hers in Chinatown. The day I got there was a Sunday, so it was fairly easy to get around. I stopped at a place near the Bowery. There was a Police station and a couple of cops out front. So I asked them if they could recommend a place nearby. They said "Don't stay around here." I ended up staying at the YMCA on 34th Street for $4 a night.
My great-grandmother was born on a farm there in 1872. She lived to be 94.
Love all these Manhattan historical videos… the Bowery has so much history.. great video!
My father owned two buildings on Bond Street, right next to the Bowery Lane Theater from the early 40s to the mid seventies. After he passed my mother sold them for around $350k, and by today’s value, they would be worth millions.
The good thing is, if she invested that $350K in the 70s, it would also likely be worth millions today.
I recommend the Bowery Boys podcast if anyone else can’t get enough of NYC content like me
Taggers never cease to amaze me. How the hell did they get up top the Bowery Savings Bank to hit the facade SO MUCH?! 😮 Sad but amazing at the same time. Oh i see now. Hopping roofs...
Boerderij Tom, I am Dutch and visited last year in september to see the ancient Dutch Places, it’s like Amsterdam !!
I love the really old buildings that are still in that area they are easy to miss as you walk north from Canal Street, they some I would imagine go back the late 1800s
At the end of a long day, it's so good to watch one of your videos, Tom -- solid laughs from snide remarks and ... great info!
Back in the late 70's and early 80's I used to take the #6 IRT from GCT to Astor Place to visit friends that lived in the E. Village.
We used to patronize "McSorley's" and also "The No-Name Bar" (it was on a corner with a large glass facade).
Black leather attire was preferred but not required.
There you might see members of The Clash, Blondie, The Ramones and The Rolling Stones (!)
It may have been 316 Bowery where the mural is today. I know there used to be a bar there.
Hi Tom...I love your New York videos! It is so interesting to hear about the history behind the city. Thank you for posting these...keep 'em comin'! ❤
I love your videos and hilarious style! Currently reside in NYC myself and wonder if you still have tours in parts of the city because I would love to pay for a tour with you and some of my family and friends. Happy Holidays ✌️👍❤️
At Chatham Square, the 3rd Avenue EL operated in Manhattan until 1955, the last surviving EL in the city. The 2nd, 6th, and 9th lines were all gone by 1938-1942.

Dutch for farm
Great to hear all this history
thank you
Irving Berlin also wrote the song, “White Christmas” (and was a Jewish-Russian immigrant)
That's the song I thought he was going to mention.
We are clearly older than Cameron, haha.
Another awesome video guys!!
Tom’s getting good with the editing! The to-go cup throw and natty light run over, seamless!
I love your historical videos, Tom . Good work 👏
You're awesome! Full of historical knowledge and hilarious!
Always a interesting video Tom. I like that mini mini van
Another great one, Tom! I have to rewind your videos so many times because I'm gawking at the architecture and passersby so I miss important dates. I love history so much!
Even though it isn't directly on the Bowery, I was hoping you'd end at McSorely's having a carbol--I mean an ale.
Great stream Tom always quality
Another great video, Tom! But you left out the legendary Sammy's Bowery Follies. And Mazie Gordon, the Queen of the Bowery immortalized in The New Yorker by the great Joseph Mitchell!
8:23 Bowery Savings Bank - You didn't mention how magnificent the interior & ceiling of this particular building!
Learned a lot actually! Always wanted to find out more about Bowery and here it is ! My dream kinda came true !!! Take care !!!
Welcome back Tommy D
Thank you Tom. 😎
Tom, you’re amazing. Been watching weekly for about 3 years. Hah, Skeletor at 22:59. Just want to point out because I have been enjoying your videos that I would actually pay you if I could film just one video someday. Ok, cheers from MPLS.
If Cameron has never heard of Irving Berlin, ask him if he's ever heard of "White Christmas", also written by Irving Berlin.
Hey Tom! What's up? So sick tour as always!!!
I like this video. In few days if everything goes well, I will be there. Thank you for warming up!
Interesting as always 👍
Nice work 😎
good job . this was my old neighborhood till 2012. im sorry you didnt mentioned the bowery theater on Delancey and Bowery.
I'm listening to this at work in the background so not sure if I missed it, but did you mention CBGBs, and Nom Wah in Doyers St?
You are always entertaining and we actually get to learn something too. lol 🧚♀
So good.
Great video
Nice video. Bowery comes from the Dutch word Boerderij which idd means Farm in English. Warm regards from Belgium.
First time watching - Sub’d! Informative and...me likie the humor!
I'm pausing this to watch On the Bowery.. well done. You know have two tabs.
Tom, please tell me that flip phone was a prop phone?? If you are still carrying a flip phone, you are a rare breed and one of a kind.
Not a prop!
Well WE know who ain’t much on texting. lol
Please update this to your New York walking tours playlist so I can directly download all the videos on the playlist and watch them one by one
You make one hot model. Just in case the you tube gig doesn’t pay the bills 😂😂. Keep up the great work.
Such beautiful buildings, no matter where you go. Anothr reason wny I love New York!
Cool spot walked around there for a while
Thanks again John in Chicago
The Sunshine Hotel is a good documentary of one of the last flop houses on the Bowery.
There is a film called 'Jay Myself' which follows Maisel through the most daunting of all house moves, as Maisel and his wife, daughter, and a platoon of professional movers try to edit and condense the detritus of a half-century of artistic life.
"Vote early…and vote often!"
Hey I like your Style! Nothing fake about you. Thanks for the "on the Bowery" recommendation
18:29 a story unfolding ? The couple behind Tom 🤔
I thought the same thing! Seems to have not ended well :(
@@VAGGY8TH yes I know seemed sad
Yeah, I thought about putting ridiculous captions or something but I thought it would be too distracting!
I enjoy your videos on the history of New York city and other places. By the way, what is the Dutch word from which bowery came from? Thanks
CBGB and Joey Ramone-Place: love the Bowery! And like your german...Take care. Cheers from Cologne ;-)
New to your channel... lovin' it
but a tour of the Bowery w/o mentioning Monk Eastman?
Tom, you're the fucking shit!!! Keep up the good work.
Tiffany and Newbridge Cutlery started same way, glass🙂then went on to make silverware, jewellery, that's why Newbridge Cutlery has the same blue box and blue ribbon... connection
MORE DARK SIDE TOURS PLEASE TOMMY!
Tom, your tours have become TOO interesting and TOO entertaining. Please stop.
#JK
graffiti everywhere! Much more than when I was there 8 years ago.
I'm pretty sure an emotional goodbye was going on between 2 people in the background when you were talking about the fire fighters between the 18 and into the 19 minute mark. At the end of it the girl had walked away and the guy is standing there watching her go, looking like he knows he'll never see her again. She's moved on. She met someone else online, now she's moving to Utah to be with him. Even though they've never met face to face, she knows he's the one, like many people seem to believe before they uproot their lives and move far away just to find out they couldn't be more wrong about that. She'll then contact the guy she left, admit she made a big mistake, and ask to come back to him. But he is unsure. He loved her, and she left him. He knows she must have had sexual relations with the guy at least a few times in the 3 months it's been since she left. Does he really want her back after that? Will she end up just leaving again out of the blue? She must not really love him if she was talking to other guys online while they were together. But he has had quite the dry spell since she left. He'll take her back, making her promise she won't do that again. She says she won't. But we all know better.
" On the Bowery" is an amazing film. check it out if you can!
Did we just witness a breakup at the 18:25 mark??
Thanks for clarifying that Geoge Washington was black
When will I see my name at the end of a video as Patreon supporter ⏰. 🤔love the videos , keep up the great job. 😊
Well, crud, sorry about that. Send me a Patreon message so I have your handle on there - sometimes the Patreon subscriber's status shows up as different on there. I can sort it out.

"Yeah I did that in my head" LOL. Yes we can see there's only some weird romance activity at 18:30 , gangs are gone hah.
Chantham square a windy bench castle
Tom! Does the noise bother you? NYC is so damn loud. I live by Cooper Avenue and I'm thinking of getting ear plugs.
Ironically, William Macready was the son if an Irishman!
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Didn't Dick Van Dyke do a commercial mentioning The Bowery?

My mother got mugged in the bowery by one of the Bowery boys he he he he he
😂🕴️📸
Seriously though…how can Cameron not know “God Bless America”….it’s not like you have to be some far right overly patriotic type to know that song.
Ok the interest of historical accuracy, I'm very disappointed you didn't film real women of ill repute for the video.
This guy must have moved their last week because the bums are still there on the Bowery and the rest of the Lower East Side
