I just found your videos! I love them, Tom! And love your sense of humor! You were killing me by the end of the video with your "fake monk alert" spottings! lol
I got to tour the Paramount building extensively, such a cool building! Those clocks at the top are massive. Got to see them from the inside. One one of the upper floors they were redoing there was still stained glass in one of the windows that looked like it was from a church. Can’t imagine how old it was!
FYI Broadway shows start up again in September (unless we have another lockdown), you can go online and get those Phantom of the Opera tickets now! Or get them on the day of at the TKTS booth!
Thanks for showing the old Paramount Theater! Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin used to sell out the Paramount back in the day, and lines would stretch around the block.
I actually was in Times Square today because I went to NJ. I stay away from Manhattan as much as possible! I drove through there as fast as I could which was about 2-3 miles per hour , normal Manhattan speed limit!! 😂😂 Sometimes I wonder why don't I just leave the car at home!! :)
Congratulations on upping your whole Presentation game, compared to a few months ago! You came across as confident without being cocky, and your delivery was consistently paced, instead of manic... I appreciated your stopping, to face the camera/audience while speaking-rather than talking over your shoulder while speed-walking. Since you let us have some breathing room, I was able to process your stories, for a change. (And fully expect to remember Father Duffy Square). Oh, and thank you as well, for not eating while perched upon a pile of garbage bags on the street. Way to Class it up, Tom!
The Paramount building also hosted the old Paramount Theatre. Hard Rock now has a replica marquee. Also don't give away the secret of the best bathroom in Times Square, aka, the Marriott.
Baada Boom! Baada Bam! Baada Bang! You, Sir, are not only a real hoot, but a Didactic Hoot, to boot! Once lived in Manhattan. However, once I managed to escape with my life back in Spring '98, my romance with New York City had waned exponentially over the years. But, mah brotha, your intoxicating 'teaching trips' have a fired a reawakening-fondness for dear ol' Gotham. Yup! Your incredible humor, passion and electricity serve you well! Rock On!
👍🏼You didn’t get cussed today 👍🏼 I was in NY the weekend of June 19th. We stayed in Times Square. I had a run in with the cd guys and a monk lady. Going back in November. Will stay in Chelsea then. Hoping that area will be a little calmer 🤞🏼
So many people talk smack online about Times Square but I love it. Best time to see Times Square is when it snows. I wish MTV went back to VJ format and broadcast live there again but without Carson Dorky or boy bands.
Love your videos. Keep up the good work. Visited NYC last week from London. First time there and absolutely loved it. Wish I’d discovered your videos earlier.
And don't forget that George M. Cohen wrote "Give My Regards to Broadway" ("Remember me to Herald Square...) Heading to NYC in October and will follow in your footsteps. Keep up the fun!... My wife is getting sick of me saying to her "How you doin' Phil?"
He's talking about shipping captains setting their clocks accurately for safe travel on the open sea. This started in Greenwich, England where the Prime Meridian was also based. A ship's clock that was inaccurate by mere minutes would find themselves hundreds of miles off course.
How do you remember all the dates? ..Stewart & Phil have flash cards, don’t they? 😆 Loving your videos. First visit will be Christmas week. Bringing my good walking shoes.
Only thing I have to say about Times Square, pre-pandemic, it was the second worst place in New York City behind only Penn Station. However, since commuters have lessened, Penn Station has fallen from the pedestal, and now Times Square is sits in the throne. Congratulations!
Excellent again Tom. I knew most of what you talked about but you enlightened me with some pretty good obscure stories too. Also, great advice telling people never to accept anything being handed out around there. Also also, those fake ass monks were sure out in force that day! Ha ha
When the Hard Rock NYC first opened it was up on 57th Street and it was THE place to see and be seen - it had the whole nine yards - celebrities (I saw the absolutely gorgeous Mariel Hemingway there) velvet ropes, lines, guest lists, surly bouncers, the whole nine yards. Difficult to believe now a Hard Rock would be that way. PS A Hard Rock Hotel recently opened just off Times Square.
No wonder the Viacom building is so tough to spot....It's a concrete brutalist building surrounded by better looking art deco and modernist structures.
Always enjoying your vlog from.bali...indonesia. Interesting fact about where the name of times square came from...you are full of knowledge ☺️☺️☺️👍👍👍keep up the good work...I feel like I was there with you...
I love your videos! Im from Sweden , Sundsvall up north. I really love NY been there once 2017. I would love to come back once i can afford it and truly travel the manhattan. Especially after watching your videos. Keep it up my favourites! 🇸🇪🇺🇲
My God bro, your knowledge of my hometown is unparalleled!
Was wondering today when a new vid would be up and here we are....!
Nothing like a new tomdnyc video 🔥
Geweldig!
So nice your subscribers are growing Tom...you deserve it..
He is the best
I really liked the Tuvan throat singing that you dubbed in when there was a "Monk Alert". Very clever.
I know, I agree with you 😂😂😂😂👍🏿👍
Never knew the difference between Broadway, off Broadway, and off off Broadway. The number of seats huh. Thanks bro.
I just found your videos! I love them, Tom! And love your sense of humor! You were killing me by the end of the video with your "fake monk alert" spottings! lol
How many fake monks per sq mile?
Very informative videos. The views are great including you.

The Paramount Theatre is where they had the premiere for the movie Love Me Tender, starring Elvis Presley.

Overall great videos!! but this one had me rolling with the "Fake Monk Alerts" LOL!!!
Tom, you’re a gift to us all! Keep it up
Glad that you're back Tom.
Thanks for showing the old Paramount Theater! Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin used to sell out the Paramount back in the day, and lines would stretch around the block.
I was first in Times Square in 1981, was in NYC to see The Clash, and it was bloody dangerous!
Even NYorker didn't go to Times Square during those days....

The whole time I was taking pictures and video in Father Duffy Square? Madness! I should start making farting cat videos now.
😄
Cool. Action kid. Nice showing support to a fellow UA-camr!
Yeah. But you only walk. Cat farting is too much work for you.
23:09😂 lol sometimes the b-rolls are the best parts of the video
Love your content and sense of humor dude. Top of the line lol

I remember all the porn shops, porn theaters, pimps, prostitutes, and drug dealers in the 1970's. Those were the good old days. Forget about Disney.
There were also a lot of small indie and art house theaters among the XXX and peep shows. Many film makers perfected their craft in the crossroads.
Lol they would be plus Studio 54
Thank you for another great historical/educational tour, Tom! 🍎🗽🚕🎭
Congratulations on upping your whole Presentation game, compared to a few months ago!

The rounding error at Durst is mind-blowing!
