Fact: Keening was crafted by Lord Kagrenac, Chief Tonal Architect of the Dwemer, during the First Era. He developed two additional tools, a hammer called Sunder and a gauntlet called Wraithguard, which were integral to accessing the Heart of Lorkhan. You can use it in TESIII: Morrowind to defeat Dagoth Ur.
For those of you who haven't played Morrowind, Dagoth Ur is the antagonist of the main questline and builds a new Numidium, called Akulakhan, under the Red Mountain of Vvardenfell. The Nerevarine (your character) uses the tools to destroy the Heart of Lorkhan, killing Dagoth Ur in the process.
Btw, you can meet the only Dwemer "alive", Yagrum Bagarn. He's in the Corprusarium and still there thanks to the Corprus, the illness created by Dagoth Ur that makes you immortal in exchange of pain.

El amigo de los niños Absolutely, it's one of the best games I've ever played. It was released in 2002-2003 if I remember correctly but the world was amazing by then (and still). If you want an immersive experience in TES universe, this is your game. Btw, the DLCs are fucking cool, specially Bloodmoon for introducing Solstheim and a new quest related with Hircine. Give it a try, it's cheap in G2A or Instant Gaming.

I’ve had Skyrim since it’s original release date of 11/11/11. I was 21 at the time. Now I am 31 and this is the first time I’ve seen this side quest. This game has a lot of hidden gems it seems!
I feel like there's a dragon waiting everywhere I go.
As example I exit the abandoned shack after joining the dark brotherhood and get attacked by a dragon walking out the door

Minor Spoilers on The Video, and part of The Dawnguard DLC.
Okay, so lemme correct something, Arniel went to Oblivion. When you cast a conjuration spell, you are calling something from Oblivion. A soul gem is a mean to store a soul in Oblivion, to call upon their soul for use in say, an enchantment. Specifically, the soul is stored in The Soul Cairn, a pocket dimension of Oblivion, sort of like the Wraith Realm and the Unseen Realm in The Lord of The Rings. So you are calling Arniel from Oblivion, thus meaning, Arniel is in Oblivion. We can prove that his experiment went somewhat right though. It is possible to get a Conjuration Spell to summon a Dwemer/Dwarven Sphere, and again, it's coming from Oblivion. The last dwemer (found in Morrowind) was in Oblivion when the mass disappearance happened, which would explain why he could be found not in Oblivion, he was already, and not deep enough to not come out. Also, as some proof that kind of sucks, there is an NPC in Skyrim who will claim to have seen Dwemer in Oblivion. The Dwemer Ghosts could be explained as those who escaped with an only partially intact soul, or who potentially were captured in The Soul Cairn and released somehow or someway, but they're soul has been to weak to take a corporeal form, similar to Durneveir.
I know no-one is going to see the effort I put into typing this comment from what I remember, but just in case, and it's good as a way to mark my thoughts.

I think you are wrong in something, ethnir says that Warped Soul Gem is" Warped beyond its use for storing souls" so I think he is in oblivion, but not in Soul Carin
I've been playing skyrim for 5 years and I haven't even HEARD of that weapon. It's amazing how one can spill so much time into Skyrim and still find new things in each playthrough.
If you have the Special Edition or all the DLC, there is a Shield in Blackreach called Hyperion that creates a ward and reduces the cost of restoration spells. It looks exactly like Auriels Shield. It's at the top where the giant orange orb is.

For me, around 7 years, and according to my console 6000 hours. I heard of this quest a while ago, but it still amazes me just the sheer detail of the Skyrim side quests. The best examples are the mara questlines, and this one. I mean, I get that it was based off of DnD at the beginning of The Elder Scrolls, but Jesus Christ. I mean, there's this level of detail in just about every side quest. Of course the scale is quite unbalanced sometimes (namely with the quests like the Forgemaster's Fingers and basically all the "clear this place out for money" quests), but even still the majority are hyper-detailed, and easily build the world in the best way possible. I get that when you play the game it's easy to overlook, but looking back it's truly masterful. Let me put it this way: you've probably played the main storyline at least once, right? Now, what if I told you there are around eight underlying storylines of the game with all the DLCs, six without the Solstheim DLC, and one of them you can completely miss (main, Dwemer, Mage's guild, fighter's Guild, Thieve's Guild, Dark Brotherhood, Dawnguard, Dragonborn)? Oh, and nearly everyone you can talk to that looks vaguely important, especially near things that involve these storylines, will give you quests with custom and incredibly powerful weapons and armor, cool knick-knacks, and more. And on top of that, you can be the champion of like 7 gods, be a cannibal for one, and get cool weapons and shields for others.
Nearly a decade later and I'm still discovering new things about this game

Plus with ESO releasing more Lore that can be investigated in Skyrim and it's ilk, yeah this game as well as TES 4 and 3 are getting a bit more attention nowadays than they used to.

I barely go to the college of Winterhold ever since I became an arch mage, but every time I go there there's always an elder dragon flying above the college.
I started all over again. After killing Aldurin, theres just no end to dragons going after me. Playing Legendary mode is a bit of a pain fighting Legendary Dragons. Theres always a dragon flying over the mage collage.
I don't understand why, but like 85% of all times I show up in Winterhold - SURPRISE!!! DRAGON ATTACK!!!
@@zizan2071 you can use a mod called "Diversity Dragons" or "Timing is Everything" to control the minimum and maximum days of random dragon attack

I believe there were at least 3 dwemer artifacts involved in whatever actually happened to the Dwemer race. the 'dagger' Keening, the hammer Sunder, and the gauntlet Wraithguard. I could be wrong, but I have a feeling that Keening was actually meant to be a wedge which would be driven by Sunder held by Wraithguard. Perhaps they were attempting to extract a piece of Lorkan's Heart?
Also I think that, unlike ordinary summons, the spell to summon Ariel's shade does not actually call upon Ariel's soul or spirit, but rather manifests a tonal echo of the man's former existence. This may partially explain why the summon does not use up magicka and why the shade is intangible.
That is a good theory but unless Bethesda actually gives us definitive lore we will never know and do we really want to? This mystery and everything surrounding it is giving all of us so much to talk about and theorize so much so no answer will be satisfying not now

get your all magic skills level to 90 (destruction, alteration, conjuration, etc), and you'll have a bunch of sidequets from college of winterhold npcs
those are hidden quests and for some reason can't be triggered by any event

It's 2024 and I'm an 81-year-old gamer who started with DOS Wulfenstein and Doom 1. Last fall I felt like I needed some variety away from Arma 3, so I started researching a new game. I was attracted to Skyrim's dreamworld ambience, classy music and singleplayerness. I bought the Special Edition on Steam. I've been playing nine months and now I'm struggling to kill Miraak. The game is now almost an obsession. The game's quirkiness and oddity baffle me. Playing it is a lot like doing school homework -- ugh. Yet I'm addicted to it. This video is a great demonstration of all of Skyrim's problems and fascinations. Thanks for the work you put into it.

On a plus side, I like Keening as more of a collectable easter egg call out to the lore of the Elder Scrolls in general, and definitely to Morrowind shoutout.
I'd probably not even use the thing, but it would look great in a display case.

Great video. One of my favorite things about Skyrim is anything that has to do with the Dwemer. The dungeon crawls are especially. It reminds me sort of like steampunk. I think it would be great if the next version of Skyrim would be more centered on the Dwemer. Can you imagine it as a race they came back? How would that change all of Skyrim. I've never found this weapon before, the thumbnail made it look like a tremendous greatsword. Started watching the video and my immediate reaction was: "oh."
Yeah, it would be kinda dope as a big ass sword. As it looks.. to me.. you're stabbing someone with a big ass gem.. its dimensions are a bit whacky to call it a dagger imo

Fascinating. I must say though that the ending to the quest seems to leave one with more questions. If it weren't for your narration, I would have had no idea. I always wanted to see the dwarves come alive in the game...sadly that day may simply never come.

In all my playthroughs I just collect Dwemer Cogs as I go since I've known for ages about Arniel's quest. I just pick up a few at a time whenever I visit a Dwarven ruin and store them in a container at my house. No need to go through all that mess with Calcelmo.

I remember back in high school I was focus more games like Uncharted, GTA, Ninja Gaiden, and Assassin Creed. I first tried out Skyrim a year ago. Skyrim is freaking Legendary. I don't think I've ever played a game that has more replayability besides Fallout.
A funny story happened to me with the dagger. While i was at darklight tower i coincidentally found the courier there. So i picked up the dagger and went to complete arnials mission to actually get it but the game was bugged and even with unofficial patch mod the mission is now broken

I think you've over-thought what happened to the Dwemers. We know from the one that still existed in Morrowind, Yagrum, that the Dwemer ascended to a different plane of existence, like the Ancients in Stargate. You can summon Ariel because he wanted you to benefit from helping him achieve the goal of finishing his experiments. This was brought up in the first and second Numidium.
it seems like Ariel was testing if he can connect to the other plain, I totally agree that this is a bit over thought.. Ariel isn't connected to you, he's with the dwamers... probably just a game thing to have some connection to him.. it would've been cool if he could talk and just be happy he was right xD
I've just been binge watching your videos the last few days. xD I started following your channel back when you started doing lore on Blackreach in Skyrim. Totally under rated location and is my favorite place to explore in the entire game. I remember when it first released, and I spend every day for probably about two years playing Skyrim until I'd done every quest, side quest and achievement possible. I'm pretty sure I discovered some removed/half-finished quests as well! And yet, here I am playing it again over 5 years later. Determined to believe that there are more hidden things. (By the way, the best quest in Skyrim vanilla is totally the Aetherium Wars in my opinion)! I love the lore involving the Falmer and Dwemer. Has there been more discoveries involving them since the updates of ESO?

The dwemer are superheroes disguised as chickens. That's because the chicken notices crimes.

Ahhh Keening makes me miss Morrowind! You needed Keening, and Sunder to kill Dagoth Ur. You also needed to have Wraithgaurd to hold them or they would instantly kill you! :)

Interesting. This raises so many more questions.
1. If Keening does this what was Sunder for?
2. Why can you both hold keening without wearing wraithguard?
3.Why when Kagrenac did this his whole race was changed and in this situation only Arniel was? Was that more of Sunders purpose?
4.Why when the tribunal and Dagoth Ur used the tools were they actually able to achieve a form of Godhood unlike the Dwemer?
5.So was the plan to use the heart to power the numidium, then transfer the entire Dwemer race into it to control it while it controlled the power of the heart? That actually seems like a good plan. You would have a real god on your hands. Because the minds and souls of an entire race are within it it can think many thoughts at once. It is nearly indestructible and has the power from the heart. On top of this the ultimate ability to summon an entire race of unkillable ghosts would make this thing greater than any Daedric prince. I could seemingly walk into any plane of Oblivion and rip that place a new one. So why didn't it work?
I'll try to answer as best I can for you, based on my own knowledge, and a bit of research. :)
1. Sunder is an enchanted hammer to strike the heart and produce the exact volume and quality of power desired. Keening is an enchanted blade that is used to flay and focus the power that rises from the heart.
2. Arniel is concerned about it since the Dragonborn didn't die without having Wraithguard equipped, but it's not explained as to why the Mortal Wounding it should deal doesn't happen. It's speculated that Keening is broken, since it appears cracked, or that since the Heart of Lorkhan was destroyed by the Nerevarine, it's not attuned to the Heart's power anymore, so there's no threat from the Heart's divine powers. But as far as lore goes, it hasn't been officially explained.
3. Kagrenac and the Dwemer had all 3 of the tonal artifacts, and were using them on the Heart directly. At the Battle of Red Mountain, they were being beat back by Nerevar and his army, so Kagrenac, out of desperation, carelessly tried to use the Heart's divine power, which resulted in their disappearance, with the exception of Yagrum Bagarn, who was in a whole different plane or dimension at the time. Arniel only had Keening, and was using the warped soul gem as a replacement. So that must have been the difference since he wasn't working on the actual divine Lorkhan's Heart. Experimenting with divine power usually ends with unknown, unexpected results in the end haha
4. The Dwemer were using the Heart to create their own God for their own benefit, Numidium, rather than giving THEMSELVES divine powers. Dagoth Ur, while protecting the artifacts at the request of Nerevar, secretly used the tools to create a connection between himself and the Heart, making himself a God, which is why he didn't die when thought killed by Nerevar and the Tribunal. Then, Vivec, Almalexia, and Sotha Sil betrayed Nerevar, and used the tools to give themselves divine powers. So the Dwemer used the power to create a God, the Tribunal used the power to make themselves Gods.
5. The new Numidium, called Akulakhan by Dagoth Ur, was powered by the Heart of Lorkhan, and was to be used as a God to be worshiped by all mortals in Tamriel, as House Dagoth would serve as the god-priests of Akulakhan. Dagoth Ur planned to use the power of the heart in Akulakhan to spread the Blight and Corprus through winds to Morrowind and all of Tamriel by making all mortals Gods and putting them under Dagoth Ur's control. But while Akulakhan was still being constructed, the Nerevarine ultimately defeated Dagoth Ur and destroyed the Heart, so Dagoth Ur's plan was never seen to fruition.

This actually makes perfect sense. I've played this quest multiple times. I also recently read c0da by Michael Kirkbride, where the protagonist speaks to the Numidium and says "you ARE the disappearance of the Dwarves". I know it's technically fanfic, but, yknow, c'mon

When you start a new character for the first time in Morrowind on Elder Scrolls Online and you go into Vivec's Palace in Vivec City, before you start any quests for him you can find 3 scrolls in the main chamber room that will give a lot of history behind including what happened to the Dwemer. We just started new characters on our same accounts and was not able to see the scrolls. I am curious now if they are online somewhere??? Just some food for thought!!!

If anyone is considering getting this spell still, do so, it's a lot of fun. Although a two handed cast, it's fast and can be cast far away from your position. Similar to a staff. If you use an exploit to have two followers AND this spell at a low level, you will just stand back and watch the bodies fly this way and that and busy yourself collecting loot. Or just destroy everything. But lots of fun at any difficulty. Plus he lasts the entire length of the spell and seems to tank just about anything all by himself.
One tip I would give to make easier getting this spell. Bring a follower with you while doing mage's guild quests and put the cogs on your follower. This way you have them all once archimage. You can store them at the college till you need them. The rest is easy, as long as there are no bugs messing you up.
A minor correction ESO it does say the spell is added the instant Arniel disappears also to everyone else no matter how much you hate arthmoor get the unofficial patch it's such a useful mod so useful it's on basically everyone's essential mod list

Hey ESO, could you possibly make that 30min long lore video as i would like to know about the disseperance of the dwarves
basicly they both all turned into ash as there plan to merge with the numidian failed AND succeeded and they all fused with numidian and became its skin at the same time this happened as a result of a dragonbreak in which time was split in fragments causing muiltiple timelines to happen at once

Kagrenac, a Dwemer, who made Sunder, Keening and Wraithguard, tried to use the Heart of Lorkhan to make a god so they could take over Morrowind, instead he made all the Dwemer disappear like poor Arniel in this video.
He uses fireballs when the enemy is too far away, so he usually uses it to attack flying dragons.
