MXR Dyna Comp Pedal Review

- The mxr dyna comp compressor pedal is soooo good! I love this pedal and have never taken it off my pedal board. I am sure there are better ones but as far as a good cheap compressor pedal, this may be the best. With any pedal board, a guitar compressor pedal is essential and I hope this dyna comp review video helps you decide what to buy.

I have one that I can’t do without, absolutely love it!
i like how you simply explain stuff without too much talking. you got my subscribe good sir
Thanks my friend and I try to get straight to the point.
Its wrong information.
This video I was looking for about Dynacomp. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great review showing the sustain. Thanks!
Thanks my friend!
It wasn't a great review.
Lets point out to you Professionals have a set of mxr pedals.
It doesn't get played by itself, not plugged in to any other pedal.
Very nice video! Nice review!
Ese pedal me lo han recomendado, estoy comenzando a armar mi board y voy a a poco y necesito un buen compresor. Gracias Devan!
No te arrepentirás! Es exquisito, además si le das más sensibilidad te da un toque de “suciedad” muy rico, estilo Frusciante por así decirlo
I really like the way you are using this. I am considering upgrading my compressor and the MXR seems right for what I want.
It’s a nice pedal and I enjoy having it for sure.
It's good. Smoke Crack. The mosky version is also excellent at 1/3 the price.
I've owned fancier stuff, but the Lil red box just does the thing so well.
Oh it does not seem right for you.
Best review for this pedal!
Thanks my friend!
Wrong David.
Or
The guitarist world has sunk to a new low.
Sorry but this pedal belongs in a professional set of mxr pedals.
Could you imagine a 2022 carpenter going to work with just 1 hammer?
Are you going to be a professional with just 1 pedal?
You're a gossip David.
Stop gossiping David.
@@dreyn7780 Sorry what!? I get a notification from a weirdo who's replying to a comment i made a year ago just complimenting the creator of the video. Of course there's someone like you to come and take offense from my completely kind comment. Keep hating on random people...see where it gets you. Please dont reply, it's pointless. I don't know what the fuck one compliment has to do with gossip??? like what the hell. I have a pedalboard full of fantastic pedals and idk what ur doing
At 4:05, the guitar begins to push into a Larry Carlton 335 feel. Great video, great demo and explanation of the yummy aspects of compression. My Dynacomp was the spank I needed to get closer to the sound I was pretending to play.
Thank you!
Excellent video, this is the first pedal on my board and I use it like you do m, for subtle sustain/compression as well as to feed more gain into my OD and Distortion and to get that “fake” sound you mentioned as “midi” sounding. It’s a great subtle effect that rarely gets talked about too much. Used by a lot of country guys, but can be great for other styles too.
You can even use this as a clean boost by turning the compression all the way down.
Thanks and glad you liked the video! It’s 3rd in my chain after a tuner and volume but it is great for sure! About to be fourth in the chain after a sub n up as well!
Not enough information to communicate effectively.
So you've ended up with just gossip.
Is that mxr OD?
Boss?
EVH?
This was actually a terrible video.
Sensativity doesn't mean to listen for the dead start to the notes.
You're crazy.
Solid review, first pedal i ever bought! This makes me want to put it back on the board
Nice! It’s a good pedal!
Dude, grow up.
Mxr makes sets of pedals.
If you're going to mix brands, check-in to the mental health ward.
LMAO!@@dreyn7780
Really good demo thanks. I'm getting one...
Thanks my friend and yeah it’s great 👍
Wrong.
You're hurting yourself, is what you're doing.
Thriftiness is written all over you.
Would a professional say "I'm getting 1?"
Grow up people!
Great video, brother. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
You make it sound good ! Thanks !!
Glad you liked it!
Excellent video. Not an irrelevant word or jokes or rambling on about irrelevant things like the 2 guys from England or that irritating pedal show. A+!
Thanks bro!
It was extremely unprofessional and wrong information.
Mxr is a professional pedal and it works in a set of pedals.
Pretty good video dude, thank you!
Thanks my friend and glad I could help!
I was looking for exact same ,, tnx man.
Sure thing!
Good explanation!
Thanks my friend and more to come!
very nice explanation ever
Thanks 😊
Makes the note more crisp! 💥
It does for sure!
It's like a fresh, dry crack rock.
@@DevanBishop Smokeweedsmokewusmokecrack
No that's user error sound.
Professional pedal and professionals plug this pedal into a set of mxr pedals.
The crispness goes away and the TRUE sound is activated.
I’m surprised in 2 years nobody has mentioned that a dead note could mean it’s time to get your axe freshened up with a re-fret.
It’s something to check for sure
Great review, thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Dope style man guy
Thanks doode bro home skillet 😆
I can’t play a telecaster without one. The compressor prevents the G string from barking out louder than all the other strings. Everything is all evened out
Of course it adds a little “ snap and pop” to the clean tone. A clicky sound. Perfect for country
That’s what I’ve heard. I need to get a tele

Anytime!
Sweet, I just got a MXR super comp. After retiring my vintage Ibanez cp830.
The dyna comp was a close call. Might get it later in the future lol
It’s very good and maybe soon I’ll try the super comp.
Cool, its always fun to talk musical gear 🙌🏻 🎸
Yeah it is!
Oh, its day dreamer Johnny.
Hey Johnny how about you wake-up and just go buy the set of mxr pedals?
Why are you holding back?
Why don't you stop stuffing around and buy a set and act like a real guitarist?
Why are you even mentioning ibanez?
After all these years of you 2 listening to male gossip, you still have no clue a professional uses a set of mxr pedals.
Didn’t know this was big with country but makes sense only got it because of thom yorke from Radiohead
I will go with the deluxe version.
I’d be interested in trying it for sure
Great video! I appreciate the thorough explanation of this pedal. I was on the fence but I have now decided this is a pedal that I can live without. Unlike many of the comments here, I will not sing the praises of this pedal. I think it works well enough, but I feel as if it does not do enough to justify the expense (or space on my board). Pedals, for every guitarists, evetually end up on a wall or as part of a collection of unused; that is the reality. Guitar pedals can get pricey and I think the money spent on this pedal would be better spent going towards another pedal. I'm in the process of buying a Strymon Deco and this is a pretty expensive pedal, so the $40 Amazon is asking for this pedal, should definitely go towards that. For me, I think I need to eventually get realistic in terms of affordability versus my actual needs. Still a great video because it allowed me to save my money and put it towards what I really need.
Glad you enjoyed it and I almost never use it 😆
Nice Reverend! I noticed that your string tree is slanted, versus being parallel with the frets. Do you find that this works better for you? I have 2 Reverends.
I don’t think it is 😅 but I do like the feel of this guitar
I wonder if it's possible to use the MXR Dyna Comp Bass with a guitar. It allows you to blend in uncompressed signal with the compressed signal.
That’s a good question. I’d like to try it anyway
@@DevanBishop Maybe, there's a guitar version of it.
@@DevanBishop There actually is one. It's called the Dyna Comp Deluxe. I just looked it up. It's the guitar version of the Dyna Comp Bass.
That single note line sounds like Dr. Dre!
Haha glad you liked it!
Great review. Is that a Yamaha that you're playing? Beautiful instrument!
It wasn't a great review.
It was extremely unprofessional.
Dreyn 77: nigga u crazy.

Good video!
What is better - mxr dyna cimp or mxr super comp?
Good question 😆
@@DevanBishop question without answer?
@@magicthrash yeah sorry, I simply meant I did not know the answer because I haven’t used the super comp. Watch some other videos though and I’m sure you’ll find your answer!
The pedal is pushing the interface like it will push an amp. I use the dynacomp almost specifically for boost
I do as well and it works well. I’d like to try the deluxe version to.
I am between the MXR and the Boss CS3……. I can not go and test ( no decent music shop in my city) so it's hard to decide.. I can find both for the same price in second hand market..
Watch some more reviews and see what others say about it is all I can say!
They should add blend/mix knob.
They have one that has an extra knob but it’s more money 💵
I have the electric guitar, and regular speaker, where there isn’t coming out the electric guitar sound. Will this compressor sustainer make a difference ? (Thank you).
Not sure what you mean my friend.
i think what you mean is that you’re on the clean channel. if you want your electric guitar to sound like ‘a rock n roll electric guitar’, get a distortion or overdrive pedal for a start. hope this helps :)
Signal/noise ratio? I'd like to use it for clean arpeggios with chorus and delay for 80s sounds ala Cocteau Twins, so I need the most clean sound possible.
It’d work for that
@@DevanBishop thanks for your reply. I've just noticed that it's currently used by one of my fav artist (Drab Majesty)... But judging on some demos and also on the few times I played it personally, it seems to have very little "musical" or usable range before getting too extreme. I mean you can't go past 11 o'clock on the sensitivity. Is it true? Moreover many people complain about the noise. What are your impressions?
@@lovecraftmusic8717 I haven’t had much issue with it but again it’s a subtle thing I use. If you’re looking for lots of compression maybe something but that my opinion.
Did you get it?
If so, did it work for 80s sounds?
@@brucefuck836 yes but I'm still waiting for it to arrive. I think next week I'll be able to use it.
nice
Thanks 🙏
Can it stop my sound all mushing into one when i have a tube screamer on?
That’s a good question. I’ve never used a tube screamer so I’m not sure. Probably worth a google to see if someone else knows.
@@DevanBishop good shout, cheers
You seemed to be already compressed! Before you even kick the comp on?
Yup sure did 😆
Does anyone know if these work well as a boost pedal similar to an mxr micro amp, without the heavy Comp sound? And if so what settings
Low sensitivity and high output for a boost ✌️
That's how I use mine, a boost with character

I never saw this comment but thanks for posting! I wish I could really!
Just put an EQ pedal after the compressor and dial it in to regain your guitar
Solid advice
I have this compressor and whenever I’m playing with high gain it’s super noisy. Anyone know how to fix this?
Maybe try moving it to a different place within your pedal rig. I’m not sure about this but that’s all I can think of.
This pedal is adding gain to your high gain signal. Any high gain situation is going to bring up (amplify) the noise floor, especially on single coil pickups. You can try backing off some of the gain in either this pedal (output knob) or on your other drive pedals. You can also try backing off the sensitivity so the compressor ignores the base line noise. Other options are to reduce your noise floor by isolating power, using a guitar with humbucker pickups, or running your signal through a noise gate (last resort option as it can sound quite horrible if applied too harshly). Reading up on how compression works will help you make the best decisions for your rig.
A professional pedal in the hands of a non professional.
You fix it by selling it.
@@dreyn7780 fuck are you talkin about? 😂. Seen your comments all over this video, do you even play?
@@dreyn7780 You feel better about yourself for saying that?
Do these have a buffer?
No idea
Picked one of these up at a garage sale recently (it looks to be ancient). Its either so subtle that you wouldn't really notice it.. or its outrageously OTT.
Not much in the middle. I feel like its missing a third pot to adjust the attack. I say this because if you want distortion and sustain, just use a drive pedal. If you want compression on your cleans/amp overdrive then you NEED to control the attack or its not versatile enough imho.
Yeah I agree. I did want a little more control on that side but for the price it wasn’t a bad buy
Wrong again.
Obvious to me the problem is male gossip.
It belongs in a set of pedals.
Why are you SO extremely cheap?
In 2022 we're using 10 mxr pedals as a set of pedals.
Professionals aren't using 1 pedal to judge 1 pedal.
You've got 9 mxr pedals already plugged in and you add this pedal to the set.
Why do you make everything SO difficult?
Is a professional in your mind a 1 pedal boywonder?
Grow up devan.
Professionals have a set of mxr pedals.
@@dreyn7780 Bro shutup. A professional isn't defined by the gear they have
can it be powered with a battery?
I believe so but I just use a one spot cable and power it with some others.
I prefer the lick before the compression is kicked on. Does that mean I don't need a compressor?
Not necessarily. It just means maybe you don’t like my setting or maybe you’d like something with a little more control than 2 knobs can offer.
It means you Can't tell the difference between an amature review for of gossip and wrong information, and a professional review for a professional pedal which only works in the professional set of pedals from Mxr.
Notes are suppose to die out, personally not a fan of
I know more about it now 😅
Sorry but this is not a good video, when you've got compression on, you are actually physically holding the note longer yourself, I can't really tell the difference !
Its giving conflict of interest
your setting makes the pedal useless, just my opinion
Every note sounds better when the pedal is off.
😂
how cum
It’s literally my always on pedal.
Probably because compressor sustainers combined make a better overall compression
Talks too much
Not right at all, devan.
That's not what you do.
What do you mean?
I love mine
Awesome!
