  • Be original!! Create your very own studio slump molds by thrifting old plates, platters, or bowls, maybe even steal from your own kitchen. And then I show you how to slip-stencil on turtle decoration. Super easy project and great for any skill set.

    Oh my gosh how the heck have I never seen this done before?!? I have hundreds of stencils from my mixed media days! I can’t wait to do this. The plates are sooo beautiful!!!! Looks just like the turtle if crawling onto the beach!! I go to thrift shops and find alot of glassware that I use to make pots with. I love the glass pieces that have texture on the back. I spray them lightly with cooking spray and press the slab over it. Thanks so much and I pray for your husband and daughter!!!

    One item I use for slump molds is a styrofoam meat tray - perfect size and works like a charm. Plus I don't need to spray it with anything, as the clay releases naturally from it. I often use doilies for texture but I haven't tried slip with a stencil. Now I'm excited to try that too. Also, I found your owls so inspiring I'm working on a series, I'm calling "My Hooters". 🤭So far I have made a sculpture and a mug with a feather shaped handle. Next a bank....

      Wow, that would be a tough move. I'd love to be back home. Grew up in Fairbanks and commercial fished in South Naknek in Bristol Bay. I lots of family in Soldotna. I miss it every day. Good luck in TN. That's pretty country too.

    That shape plate is gorgeous! I also love your glaze combinations. Gotta love stencils right? A great way to create texture. Have you ever made your own plastic stencils? It's easy if you have a small soldering tool or a small wood burning tool. It does fume badly though! 😝 I hope Mike is doing better! 😘

    • @hobblecreekpottery
      @hobblecreekpottery  Рік тому +2

      I have made my own stencils. I plan to do more of my own designs in the future. It's great for taking a loved stencil and making it different sizes too. Mike is doing better and my grand baby was born Sunday. Lol, I got a panicked call Saturday night that my daughter's water had broke. Never know what a day will bring. I'm so glad I listened to that nagging voice not to do the studio sale. The universe was screaming at me to slow down. Good thing I listened. 😀

    Tiff, I made this cute little spider web plate with slip and a stencil. The clay is white and the slip is B mix white 🤪. My question is, what glaze do you think would work well?

    Can you use a hairdryer on the slip to speed it along drying the way you can with underglaze? Maybe before you lift it off so you aren't blowing the clay beneath?

    • @hobblecreekpottery
      @hobblecreekpottery  Рік тому +1

      Don't do that! I tried it, and the hair dryer melted the plastic off the stencil. Patience is rewarded, lol.

    Hi. I love how you did this with the slip. Another thing I'm going to try. I love the sushi dish, but not sushi. What did you say you had in the weight bags? If you're a Gemini, that means your birthday is coming up or just past, so happy birthday for whenever it was/is. I hope your husband is getting better.

    Does your slip get stinky after a week or so? Mine has. I’m new this, so I’m wondering if I’ve done something wrong just mixing leftover clay scraps in plain water in a lidded plastic cup. Any suggestions, or is the smell normal?

    Yeah, just be careful and remember when you have dried green ware on the same surface... Newbie mistake.
