I tell my friends all the time that Duolingo is not enough because it doesn’t teach the “why” insofar as grammar, whenever someone asks me about the why of french pronouns, I will definitely show them this video. Thanks for the awesome vid, brb gonna go watch the y/en explanation now!
Of course Duolingo isn't enough 😅
I hate the grammar part of learning a language so duo is enough for me 🗣‼️
@@Killformee that might work with some languages but that definitely can't work with French
@@Killformeei suggest touching grammar afterwards, it becomes more satisfying when things click
Duo est enough pour moi to kill le time aux ski lift avec les strangers. Trés bon!
ah yes, cramming for my french final
me too
Your voice is so calming...
I get that a lot 😅
This is seriously the best explanation I've encountered up until this moment! I always wondered how to form sentences with pronouns in general and this is just so helpful! Thanks so much man!
Very well explained. This is exactly how the teacher explained the order of French pronouns to my class of 11 year olds, back in 1955, in England. We were told to think of the table as a hockey or football team, with five forwards, three mid-fielders, two backs, and a goalie, leaving “en” standing behind the goal (he was a photographer, or the referee, I think). We learned to recite “me te se nous vous before le la les, before lui leur, before y, before en, before the verb” and it stuck! My love of French started that year, and eventually led to a degree, a career teaching French (including to native speakers), and retirement in a beautiful medieval village with a vew of the Mediterranean. I still think of my first French teacher with gratitude.
That's the most batshit insane analogy I've ever heard of, but I cannot deny its effectiveness

Tomorrow mt french exam my brain it's 11:30pm
One of the BEST UA-cam French channels for grammar lessons for FSL learners!
This is the BEST video on French pronouns on UA-cam.
Thank you. This was probably the BEST explication of French pronouns that I have come across on the internet. So good in fact that I think I am going to give your 'subjunctif' video a try!😉
French is very difficult, actually I'm English speaker, and I have to go to France for medical residency so have to grasp french but don't know how to...
Can you plz guide from where should I practice to grasp it at least enough to understand..
I dare you to
@@avasava7720 Two years later I'm still building up courage!
I literally saw this video a dozen times at least. It's so practical and to the point that it makes me wonder why do all other resources and videos seem so confusing. A Big thank you !
thank you so much. seriously. I'm in French 2 in college and struggling so much. The class is at your own pace and no lectures and online so it's hard to really get some practice or more explanation and this really helped clear a lot of things up for me. Now I'm going to check out the rest of your videos :) !Thanks !
i have never learned this while studying 5 YEARS of french,
i hate our local education system
I just came across your videos, and WOW! This is just perfect. Don't worry about the length, just keep teaching the subject. You're very gifted in putting videos and information together. Thanks. I'll be checking them all out.
exactly don't worry bout the length
ur helping
These videos are fantastic. I even showed them to my french tutor. Great work!
perfect, step-by-step explanation of direct and indirect subject pronouns. Its quite a difficult concept to grasp but you made it easy to remember.
You are so very good in teaching a language, I very much like the details you provide, they way you break up and explain your samples, the comparisons you provide are ideal for my style of learning. Great work!
Awesome video, I've been learning French on my own with Duolingo and UA-cam videos for a few months now and this clears up so much for me, I am going to binge watch all of your videos.
Ditch duolingo the best way to learn a language is not memorizing obscure flashcards
I've been searching this for so long, thank you 😊 ❤
I watched too many videos in order to understand this and I couldn't 'till now! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! 😭👏
I got you 🤜🤛

This is the first time I watch one of ur video and I'm amazed thank you so much you deserve a lot more recognition!
I thought you were quite clear and you take the time to set it up in an organized and understandable way. So, thank you for your patience.
I found it helped to consider the common prepositions used by the most common verbs (parler: à, de, avec, or just le/la) and the diffetent use-cases (à vs avec, y vs lui...) and how they differ from English.... even though slang French (joual, argot...) often mis-uses them anyway. Better to master a few verbs (and the common tenses) then add to them as opposed to going nuts on the overall grammar programme. Having said that, for someone prepping for a French grammar test, the video is great.
I can't believe I finally found this site. You've explained some concepts so thoroughly and in a way I can understand it! Merci!
Amazing !!
Never found a video that explains so clearly and so simply the function of pronouns and the difference between indirect and direct object examples. Many thanks !
This is the most simplified and understandable video that I have watched on this topic!!! Thank you so much!!!
Have been watching this video for 1h and 30mins. Right now we have 3:08PM/01.04.2023. THANK YOU FOR THIS EXPLANATION!!🌺🌸✨
Wow! Even broken records can sometimes be quite soothing to listen to. Thanks for your sincere efforts!
These are really helpful. Thank you. I'm Canadian and can "get by" in french but I'm working on improving my grasp of the language. I'm starting adult learning french classes in the autumn. There are six levels/semesters to get you to C1. I reviewed the syllabus and I already know everything in level 1, so I'm begining at level 2 in September. My final semester will be ending April 2026.
All the best jobs here 🇨🇦 go to bilingual (B2-C2) applicants, even if they have less seniority/experience. I'm working hard to reach B2-C1 by the spring of 2026. I did one of those free online assessments and it says I'm at A2-B1 now. I've also been doing Duolingo and Rocket french for 6 weeks now. I didn't skip any Duolingo levels but I flew through the first 3 sections (there are 8 sections in total) in a month. It was pretty basic stuff. Now I'm half-way through section 4 "Trailblazer" and I have to slow down because it REALLY is new territory.
Duolingo is fun, but I know I need more than that. Rocket french is excellent at explaining the grammar rules, which I REALLY appreciate. The exercises test your reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
I'm looking forward to the in-person classes. I'll get to practice and the instructor can correct any errors. These courses touch on reading and writing but the emphasis will be on speaking and comprehension.
Man! Omg my french test is tomorrow and I literally saved my life thank you for this amazing tutoring
Merci beaucoup pour un excellent tableau qui capture l'ordre des pronoms français. C'est merveilleux !
Thank you for this vid! It is the most helpful resource I've found regarding pronouns in French!
Extremely good explanations man!
Thank you for the amazing video, I was really confused about the order when dealing with two pronouns and the table was extremely helpful!
OMG! This is a really clear well paced explanation. This lesson has suddenly made everything click into place! I’m of an age where even remembering all the grammar terms in English is a problem, let alone knowing what they are in French!!!😅Whether I’ll remember is another thing😂 however, I think if I repeat this one lesson a few times (repetition is key) it may sink in long enough to put it into practice. Thank you so much!!
I finally got the point of 'y' and 'en', thank you!
Simple, to the point, and at least for me the most important, "pleasant voice." I'll watch and learn here.
C’est très clair. J’aime bien l’explication.😅
Thank you so much ! Your videos help me during my french exams !!!
Bro I subbed from all three accs I have tysmmmm
Your explanations are very clear and the video puts it all together in a very useful lesson.
I have been struggling with these for so long but finally I get it with your great video.
The MOST USEFUL video online on French pronouns. Everything is summarised perfectly!
Je l'adore. Merci beaucoup pour cette vidéo.
THIS IS THE BEST CHANNEL FOR FRENCH!!!! I WANT MORE VIDEOS PLEASE!!
i cant thank you enough espesially those cheat sheet slides you create are super helpful
8:30 Some other thing to note here is that "Call" would translate better to "Appeler", because "Téléphoner" is more specific and, honestly quite a mouthful.
"J'appelle quelqu'un" to mean "Je téléphone à quelqu'un" is perfectly acceptable and common
edit: Oh 16:32, "pas" is absolutely AFTER the verb. "Je ne lui en veux pas" -> "I do not blame him (about it)"
God bless y’all!✝️✝️
Perfect way of explaining the topic.
Merci beaucoup 🙏
thx dude, as a german guy I really prefer to learn French much faster by appropriating it in your easy English way, even because, there are so much same vocabulary

Merci beaucoup, Je le comprends maintenant! 😄
c'est dure hein
@@xetox1426 Not when it is WELL explained.
Ici on dira plutôt "je comprends maintenant" car on ne voit pas à quoi "le" se réfère

This video made me a subscriber right away…..amazingly taught…thks
oh mon dieu. finalement, une chaine que donner des cours efficacement, sans tous les merdes
you ar french or not ?
your french is good
Genial 🔥🔥 your lesson is so perfect 💯 c'est magnifique ... Had to follow immediately
A few subtleties:
Je téléphone à Kyle et à Vanessa (meaning two separate phone calls)
Je téléphone à Kyle et Vanessa (can be separate phone calls or not)
J'envois là balle à (to) Vanessa
-> Je lui (any gender) envois la balle
J'envois la balle vers (toward) Vanessa
-> J'envois la balle vers elle
The indirect pronouns me/te/lui/nous/vous/leur placed before the verb really only replace the indirect objects introduced by "à"
For the indirect objects introduced by another preposition (vers,chez,...) you will usually uses a subject pronoun placed after the preposition, you have to use moi,toi,lui/elle,nous,vous,eux/elles
But...
Je prends la pomme de Jérôme / je prends la pomme appartenant à (belonging to) Jérôme --> Je prends sa pomme (you have to use a possessive pronoun when that initial pronoun indicates a possession)
Je prends la pomme à Jérome (I take the apple from Jérôme)
-- je lui prends la pomme (I take the apple from him / I take the apple and Jérôme is the currently holding it.) (there i no indication of ownership here)
-- je lui prends sa pomme (I take his apple from him)
- je prends sa pomme (among the multiple available apples, I take the one he is holding. No indication of absolute ownership in this case)
---------------
Je vais y voyager
The liaison between vais and "y" is facultative.
"Y" can be indefinite:
- Je vais y aller
"y" can refer to a place previously name or the whole expression can just mean "I'm about to go (away) / I'm about to leave".
You can also say
- Je vais m'en aller
Here you have to consider '"s'en aller" as a reflexive verb meaning "to leave".
Une autre subtilité : on écrit "j'envoie" et pas "j'envois" du verbe envoyer, 1er groupe...
Best explanation.
i just LOVED this video❤❤❤ thank you and i sub
Thank you so much! helped alot
Best clear succinct review

Very well done!
Thanks. It helps a lot!
Nicely explained
Thanks a lot! Indeed Doulingo is not enough. Many videos also here don't teach with clarity. They make look the grammar so complicated.
I loved the tablet of the use of pronouns in their correct order. It makes now for me a lot sense.
Merci beaucoup pour votre temps et j'apprécie beaucoup ça!💛💛💚💚🧡🧡
I am subscribed and I will definitely check the next video. There are lots of pronouns that still don't understand of how to use them.
Un million de merci!
This was so helpful thx
Fabulous video!
Hi :) Your lesson is tooo perfect! Could you please help me with the placement of COD & COI in affirmative a l'imperatif when we use reflexive verbs(negation too). Thanks in advance!
