I swear, this is like the best ELI5 tutorial for MSFS 2024 I’ve watched especially for someone like me who’s just getting into the game. Keep ‘em coming! Subscribed :)
You're incredibly good at explaining and simplifying things, would love to see a whole beginners guide to flying in msfs including navigation and other stuff :)
You can use FLC for descents also :) Just hit the FLC button then pull some power -- you'll start descending as the plane lowers the pitch angle to make up for lost airspeed. Constant speed descents are useful, especially in IFR when you need your ground speed to remain steady to manage timing between approach fixes.
Of course. I will be posting a video of flight planning tonight. Instrument tutorials will come out within a couple of weeks. RNAV, Localizer, ILS and IFR flight planning are on the list of videos to come.
thanks for this very simple explanation. I knew i was missing a few steps when turning on autopilot. I just didn't know what steps they were. LOL. no i can try that with sim rate. what I can't get my head around with is IFR flights. I just can't seem to understand IFR with that quick tutorial in-game. If you can make a tutorial or some tips, that would be awesome.
I’m glad the video helped you Nathan. I will be making a video on GPS, VOR as well as instrument approaches and IFR flight plans within the next couple of days.
thank you. I think I get it and it helps :-) sometimes the right screen is off. (garmin system). How do I get power it on? 2nd question: I think the Auto Pilot is able to follow the pink lines of the flightplan. But somehow I cant get it to work. Can you make a video about that? thankyou!
Glad it helped. Yes the pink lines are the GPS feature which you would select NAV on the autopilot to follow. I will be making a video on that in a couple days. Stay tuned!!
A friendly heads up. You do not slow the plane down to climb but raise the nose to the climb attitude, and that will reduce your airspeed. You will also want to apply full power when climbing. You want an attitude that will produce the Cessna's recommended climb airspeed of 75 knots to 85 knots.
Useful - I was wondering how to quickset the HDG bug, thats changed I think from 2020? FLC Nose Down seems counter-intuitive to me as it makes the nose go up when you set climb speed.
Absolutely! I am going to create a short video on flight plan activation while airborne as well as videos on Instrument approaches which will go over more autopilot features.
If you're straight and level just try to lock the power around 2,300. Make small adjustments if needed. Sometimes if it's windy the airspeed will go up and down, best advice is to just let it do it's thing if you're in cruise.
Great tutorial videos! I'm from Germany and I try to learn the autopilot system of the 172 skyhawk at the moment. Most basic things I know, but sometimes the autopilot can't be activated? Don't know why. Mostly I try to trim the plane for a stable horizontal flight with normal RPM and stable speed, but sometimes I can't activate the autopilot. Do you know if there any other things, which I can do wrong?
@DizzySloth02 yes. Sometimes I fly and try to go on AP and it doesn't work. Some minutes later I can activate it, without any change. I tried to Google it, but found nothing. Maybe I'm the only one with this issue... 👀
@@DizzySloth02 on 06:25 you used FLC and pressed nose down and the plane beginns to climb. why? At the moment I only used vertical speed VS and there I have to press nose up to climb. That confused me now.
Yeah. it kind of sounds like a glitch. If you want to join the discord and create a form under the "questions for me" tab with a picture or video of the issue and I can help you better.
For the FLC question: Yes i know that is confusing for me too. I think it's the wrong way around in the game. Just click up or down and watch your airspeed next to the green FLC light up at the top of the PFD. This way you can tell if the airspeed is going in the desired direction. If you see that it's going the opposite way you want then click the other button
One question, you used VS function to descend only but you could use it also for climbing (instead of FLC), couldn't you?...and in the same manner, could FLC be used for descending?
Yes absolutely, you can use VS to climb and FLC to descend. The reason why it is better to use FLC when climbing is because it keeps a constant airspeed and reduces the chances for the aircraft to get unstable. Keep in mind climb performance decreases as you go up in altitude because of a reduction in air pressure. As for using VS instead of FLC for descents... it's 100% personal preference. I like using VS because it keeps me at a constant rate of descent.
@@DizzySloth02 ... and FLC is probably better because you can set the best climb speed (Y) that every plane has...but I'm wondering what speed the VS mode uses by default; shouldn't be the Y speed at then be also a constant speed as FLC mode allows?
@DANNYtheBOY11 Correct there is a VY speed for climb and FLC is good for that. There is no dedicated speed or descent rate when you're descending. In the Cessna a "Stabilized descent" is considered anything under 1000' per minute. Note: Many IFR approaches use vertical speed as determinations to stay on the appropriate glide path. This will be explained in future videos.
That was so simple to follow. You dumbed it down enough for numptys like me.
One of the few good channels explaining stuff we need to know without expecting us to know everything someone in flight school should know. 😂
THANK YOU!! Finally a tutorial actually TAUGHT something, rather be a "look at me" video.
That's the goal lol

Thanks, hopefully this will prevent me dive-bombing in to a mountain next time I try the autopilot.
Awesome! Finally I understand why my plane was turning left when I wanted to go right. Keep up the good work man!
Part 2 GPS and VOR video out now, go check it out. Thank you everyone.
Great video… appreciate the ease in which you explained. Definitely 👍🏾 and subscribed!
Thank you for the sub
Thank you for the simple explanation. Very helpful
Great tutorial mate. Hope to see more tutorials from you. Thank you.

Can you talk about how to utilize the track following feature of autopilot?
Sure!
This is great, thank you. On to the GPS video now :)

@@DizzySloth02 I think it was that way in fs2020 as well

Probably you're doing something wrong then 80% of the time
