    Very cool. After trying it out I noticed that having the "Limit Effect" checkbox ticked on the second chamfer can sometimes cause problems on the inner parts of the corners if you are trying to do a bit chamfer. Something to watch out for!

    Nice video. For those who HAS Inset operation in 3Ds MAx 2018+ . 2015th version hasn't - and I still used to work there for some projects.

    Don't you think that would be much easier to model in Quads with no N-Gons? then you don't have Triangulation problem (27secs) when you apply chamfer modifer.
    Also to avoid that problem, instead of making the trick you show, you can just select all faces, then "clear smoothing group" then make the smoothing groups again but manualy, one group for the flat surfaces and one other for the chamfers. Faster in my opinion and keeping the geometry cleaner? Cheers!!

      agreed best way

    • @PolyDesignTutorials
      @PolyDesignTutorials  4 роки тому +2

      Yes, quad modelling is better but It will also take much time to turn this mesh into pure quad mesh, so when you quickly try some shapes with boolean I think working with this kind of mesh is ok. For different smoothing groups, if you assign a unique smoothing groups to chamfers, you will be able to see the seam where chamfer starts. To fix this issue you can also use new weighted normals modifier. Or selecting the option at chamfer "smooth to adjacent faces".

    how does this works if i want to continue modifying my mesh after putting some chamfers? Im new in 3ds max, i come from blender where you can mark an edge as bevel and continue editing the mesh without any problem, and when you exit edit mode you see the result

    • @PolyDesignTutorials
      @PolyDesignTutorials  4 роки тому +1

      You can add an edit poly on top of the chamfer so you will be able to modify the mesh after chamfering.

    I have a question. Why do edge splite? Is there a problem?

    • @PolyDesignTutorials
      @PolyDesignTutorials  5 років тому +1

      If you dont split the edges you will not be able to apply inset to whole mesh. We are seperating smoothing groups as elements by splitting hard edges.

      Can this problem be solved? There is a triangular contrast on the edge of the chamfer. So when you look closely, it is not smooth. 5:05

    I personally use quad-chamfer which saves a lot of work that is irrelevant to project. Costed me 40 $ for lifetime.

    • @PolyDesignTutorials
      @PolyDesignTutorials  5 років тому +1

      Yes quadchamfer plugin was great but In 3dsmax 2020.2 there is a new chamfer modifier. I think it is the best chamfer ever in a 3d subd modelling software. Lots of great features specially fixing the pinching problems in corners.
