My dad got me my first copy of this game from a scholastic book fair when i was in elementary school, still one of my favorite things to play to this day.

man I loved making a huge horde of LaserCrocs (Petsuchos?) and some other units for defense ofthem.. they cold blow thru ANYTHING in no time.

@CaffeinatedWarRoom I was part of the Mighty Mystics clan at that time. Heavily involved with the community. I quit once the fog of war hacked was introduced making online 1v1s pointless. Bet it still exists today.
AoM, Dishonored, Doom Eternal are my top 3.

@@CaffeinatedReplayseveryone always uses the Greek expressions, but the Egyptians ones are QUITE diferent, and of course the Norse gatherers have hte single best click-response I have ever heard in any game - task them on food gahterin (IIRC) and you get "Babymother".
AoM was epic, but Supreme Commander, will always be my favorite RTS.

It is a great game indeed. But downtime in the beginning of a match? Only if you exploit the abiltiy to manage everything while the game is paused.

Thanks for sharing your AoM experience... I am considering buying it on Steam and am trying to find out what is the current state of its multiplayer functionality, since one of the reviews on Steam says "Multiplayer is unplayable due to lag. Outrageous for a 20 year old game.". So in your experience, are there any serious issues with its multiplayer? I would really like to enjoy the game with some friends...
It might be best to wait for age of mythology retold to come out. The multiplayer at least for me in the steam edition is extremely laggy. The release date is sometime in 2024 for retold

you cannot.. and you shouldnt want to ripoff anyone.. This game is worth the investment.. AFAIK the only platform right now for original AoM is Steam. Unless somehow oyu could find a physical copy somewhere.
