    It’s very important to mention that the valve has 2 letters on the side H. AND C for the hot and cold water so is a must to remember how you removed the valve. Also is very convenient to use a screw driver with magnet to prevent dropping the screw

    Great video! Very informative. My Grohe cartridge 47175 is exactly the same style, so thank you for posting. The towel in wall is a great idea, although you also should place a towel over the drain in the tub for the same reason. Thank you for sharing!

    Those two little white check valves on the sides are $58. My cartridge came with a new O-ring. My valve is also a Generation 2 but I'm using an adapter to install a Gen 3 trim kit. The Gen 2 valve was about $135.Trim kit was $90. Adapter was $13. About a $300 job for just parts. Original cartridge lasted 20 years. Then the handle would turn but the cartridge didn't respond. Original Gen 2 trim kit not available anymore. Original handle was stuck and had to be destroyed to remove. Thanks for the video. Made it much easier and inspired confidence.

      Most likely the brass stopper ring that prevents the cartridge from opening the hot water all the way. Shave it down a bit or use the old stopper.

    This video helped me recognize my tub/shower hardware as the same one you worked on. The circular panel/faceplate has no Grohe markings and I couldn't realize I had a Grohe T-II rough-in valve until removing the circular panel. Do you know which Pressure Valve with Diverter Trim Kits will work with this 47080000 Grohe Cartridge & T-II valve? I had to cut off the handle, due to corrosion, and can't figure out where to buy a replacement trim kit. Even better would be a replacement of just the handle assembly. Any ideas?

    • @ApartmentMaintenancePro
      @ApartmentMaintenancePro  Рік тому

      Browse amazon and the hundreds of plumbing sites. Or better yet if you have a local plumbing supply nearby get in touch with them these parts and can be tough to locate, the diverter trim kits that is there's so many styles

    • @kayomrl
      @kayomrl Рік тому

      @@ApartmentMaintenancePro I am worried that the distance between the center of the holes for the cartridge and diverter might vary, with all new trim kits from Grohe using newer pressure balance rough-in valves with diverter. I'm also worried if the threading from the newer trim kits will work on the 47080000 cartridge. Do you know if those 2 aspects changed for newer Grohe products?

    You should turn it on BEFORE reinstalling the finishing. Had one of these which I thought was fine. Only to get 1-2drips through the stem when operated.

    @5:00 "sometimes these things go bad"...how did you decipher that the valve vs "those things" was the problem. I dont know what those things do, but I imagine when diverter is not active, and you still have a drip then valve is problem??/ LMK

    I replaced the cartridge, it still leaks from bathtub spout. Can that deverter stem be replaced or does it need to be.

    • @ApartmentMaintenancePro
      @ApartmentMaintenancePro  Рік тому

      The diverter stem just redirects the water to the shower head. If you replaced the cartridge and water is still running continuously you may need to replace the o-rings on the non-return valves that may look something like these www.amazon.com/Grohe-47158000-Non-Return-Starlight-Chrome/dp/B003FZAGDS/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=1XPSKLGFENCN3&keywords=grohe+non+return+valve&qid=1680027138&sprefix=grohe%2520non%2520return%2520valve%2Caps%2C241&sr=8-3

    This was very helpful. I did everything you did but it still won't turn off (which is why I replaced it) -- I am wondering if the plumbing supply company didn't sell me a bad piece. The valve stem does not turn the gears in the cartridge -- should it? If it isn't that then I don't know what else I could have done wrong.

    At 5:01 you point at the small plastic insert valves on the side. I have one of these that has disintegrated, how important are they? I didn’t see a link to those parts? They’re a tiny plastic shell with a small o-ring valve.

      They are a pain in the ass to find. "Grohe 47158000 Faucet Valve" - I've got them at Amazon before but I do everything I can to not pull those out and replace them as the new ones rarely sit right on the first try.

    Very helpful, but at about 3:53 an o-ring falls out that you pay no attention to, and I have an O-ring on my stem that I can't figure out what to do with. As I try to put the plate back over the stem the o-ring is in the way. If I take it off and put it on the stem, the brass plate doesn't want to go on without a lot of pressure which of course I'm afraid to put on it, else I might damage the O-ring. At 5:52 you are beyond the problem. Also, valve stopper doesn't align perfectly, because of the groove fit it's either too far or not far enough. The cartridge is going in a Danfoss 062N1206.

    • @ApartmentMaintenancePro
      @ApartmentMaintenancePro  2 роки тому

      Not sure if you mean the o-ring on the left and right? Or the cover plate? Which should have only one O-ring. Sorry this video could have been done better I’ve learned a lot since filming this

    • @rbrookefox

      @@ApartmentMaintenancePro Neither the left nor the right nor the cover plate but rather the stem on the plate behind the cover plate. a little ring, just that size to fit around that stem. Did you see my reference at 3:53 where the little ring dropped out in your video? Anyway, I winged it, and so far It's all good. Thanks again for the vid and the prompt response.

      I know this is a late response but that o-ring is from the old cartridge and doesn't need to be reused as the new cartridge comes with new o-rings preinstalled, just make sure they dont fall out- just incase anyone reads this for future reference@@rbrookefox

    what suggestion do you have if the cartridge doesn't seem to want to slide out?

    • @ApartmentMaintenancePro
      @ApartmentMaintenancePro  2 роки тому

      Depends on how handy you are. You can spray CLR all around the old cartridge and see if that loosens it up, or drill it out, but you have to be extremely careful if you decide to drill it out as you can damage the plumbing fixture, in which case your screwed and will have to replace that.

    I have tried everything to fix 2 leaks and I’m at my breaking point. Both cartridges are brand new. I have installed and uninstalled them so many, many times trying to figure it out. I know I’ve inserted correctly-could BOTH cartridges be bad?!? I just cannot figure out why I still have leaks in BOTH showers. I only replaced bc I broke trying to change the temperature settings-that’s it. I raided another shower for the white inserts bc I chipped one removing it thinking that was the problem and inserted them into the initial shower. Seated perfectly.I’m waiting for new clips to arrive that I ordered thinking that might help bc I don’t have any other options. No other damage. Neither shower has ever leaked in 16yrs of homeownership. Neither unit has never been disassembled. One shower hasn’t been turned on in 10yrs. I just don’t know what to do-anyone out there have ideas??

    • @ApartmentMaintenancePro
      @ApartmentMaintenancePro  2 роки тому

      CLR the crap out of everything, with the inserts out. Sandpaper anything green or any calcium build up. Reapply the inserts and put o-ring lube on them. Reinstall the cartridge. If it's still leaking after that point, replace the entire fixture, which may require tile removal and soldering the fittings in.

    Don’t buy grohe, sucks big time. Installed a new shower faucet 4 years ago, within 3 years the faucet barely turned so I had the company send me a replacement cartridge. I had a plumber install it and it worked great, very smooth and could turn it with 1 finger and hardly any pressure. Now 8 months later same issue is happening. We have a water softener so it’s not hard water deposits or sediments. This faucet was discontinued btw. Now I have to change the valve to another brand which means opening up the wall that will cost me 800-1000 not including the valve or faucet
