    A good way to fix this would be having more frequent trains, but Sanwo-olu said we are going from 12-72 trains a day on the blue line before December so the rushing will reduce. They can have seats but only at the platform, After you have scanned your cowry card, not at the outer area. That way they reduce loitering but still have a sitting area for those who need it. I think this will reduce all the rushing. Also the officials at the station should practice crowd control. Like telling people to walk and being quieter on the train. It’s new for them. So you have to teach some people.

    6:05: Sorry, but I'm not sure it's important to have seats in the station. Why would someone want to wait there for 1hr when there is a clear timetable??? The moment you start putting seats in the stations, people will start loafing around there. Once the line is fully operational, you should be able to get into the station and catch your train within a few minutes of doing so.

    There's always a few people that ruin it for everyone and who cause trouble. They don't realize God is watching everything we do, say and think. Hopefully the station will do more train runs and get seating in the station while people wait. Glad to hear that people realize that the elderly, handicapped and mothers with kids need to have a seat. Also its nice if the station have some nice calming music too.❤️

    When the metro system is operated normally, people hardly want to sit in the metro station. Most people will just go inside the metro station and take the metro train to go to their final destination.
    All the complaints will be solved after more trains are scheduled.

    Rush hour is always a challenge in any city. Being curteous and not loosing ones cool is essential. It is similar in places like London (where trains has been running for 160 years .) There rush hour is often referred to as "crush hour" I once had an angry woman push me off a train in London (Victoria Line) during rush hour as she wanted ample personal space. Not cool. I avoid the tube rush hour. The LAMTA seems to have taken a lot of planning to make this as smooth as possible. So with time I think things will be good in rush hour. Very nice trains and effecient. I want to try this soon.

    As a fan of public transit systems, thank you for covering the Lagos metro. I have been watching your channel for a while and was wondering if you would cover this system.
    Most metro systems do not have seats outside the platform. The benches are always on the platform. However, they let passengers go and wait on the platform instead of waiting in the entrance area. So it is very unusual for the Lagos metro to not let people inside. The trains also have very poor frequency. If they could run trains at at least 15 min intervals, it would help cut down the overcrowding and rushing and pushing for seats.
    Lastly, Nigeria built a metro in Abuja and abandoned it. I hope that doesn't happen here. The Lagos metro should be expanded and the red line should be opened as soon as possible so that commuters don't need to waste time in traffic jams. Lagos is projected to become the most populated city by 2100 and there is no way it can function at that level without a proper metro.

    • @emmanuelogundipe3328
      @emmanuelogundipe3328 9 місяців тому +5

      You're right about the Abuja metro and I noticed three key reasons why the metro failed. First of all is that the metro was built to show off. Yes, Abuja is the capital, Lagos had a blue print, Abuja had the funding so they wanted to do it quickly so as to prove point. Secondly, Abuja metro was not well planned, the corridor of the metro that was open was essential. Yes, a metro from the airport to the city center is crutial but it's not of utmost importance because there are other areas in the capital that are in dire need of a metro line because of the traffic. Besides a metro from the airport to the capital without connecting lines will become useless on the long run. Thirdly the metro was supposed to have an electric paying system like the Lagos Metro has but that system isn't even existing yet as at the time of operation. The metro was supposed to be electric but it ran on locomotive till it was abandoned because there was no plan for any independent power plant for the metro. It's was a failure from the beginning and like I said earlier, it was a show off. Lagos on the other hand has an organisation that's in charge of the planning of the transportation infrastructure and the electric payment system has been in existence even before the launching of the metro which made the plan easier and the fact that the metro is on a very busy route will make the government keep investing in it because they want money and the metro is sure to generate funds.

    Such trains don't have numbering or preference for who comes first in most developed countries (only preferences are for the elderly, special needs, pregnant women, nursing mothers, etc). The issue here is the trains' frequency to meet the commuting population. Crowding and the consequent rushing is typical in densely populated cities during the rush hour periods, be it in London, Paris, Tokyo, etc albeit the crowds in those climes are more disciplined but not necessarily saintly you have to say.

    -Preference for people who comes first , that is not a foreseeable preference even in the nearest future. It’s a train station for the public not private.
    *Regulation Challenges
    -Discipline needs to be instilled by issuing penalty fines to violators who are not complying to the train regulations and not just trains other aspects to curtail non-compliance to government policies.
    -How can fines be implemented ? National Id’s at this age should be digitalized already in Nigeria especially Lagos where by every activity of a person either by bank transactions, medical history , employment history, personal profile etc can be easily accessed by statutory agents via this card and most importantly issuance of penalty fines via same card.
    -Through this means people will be forced to comply to regulatory policies.
    -To violators who think they can ignore the fines, it will catch up to them eventually cause it will keep multiplying and would be refused basic government necessities until fines are cleared.

    Nigerians can complain sha. Why are you waiting two hours at the station when you know when the train leaves? Please don`t put any seats there or people will start sleeping in them overnight. You are not supposed to come and relax at a metro station, it`s inefficient and will take up unecesarry space. We need a re-orientation in our behavior. Even tho people are behaving like animals they still find a way to try to blame it on the government.

    It's nit a question of discipline, whoever is in charge should increase the frequency of arrival. This will give the masses confidence that if they miss one train that another one will not be too far behind.
    It happens in US at end of a major sport events. It becomes a mad rush as well.

  • @spoiltchild79
    @spoiltchild79 9 місяців тому +6

    The rushing and the complaint about seating are all to do with train frequency.
    Metro in a city like Lagos will require a train every 10 mins at the minimum.
    At rush hour, London Underground trains are every 2 mins. Even at that, there are hardly any standing room in the trains.
    With the global security challenges, metropolitan train stations are no longer a place to be hanging around.
    Apart from providing seats for the physically challenged, seats are unnecessary in a metro station.
    When the trains start operating on higher frequency, say every 10 mins, then you will have absolutely no reason to spend more than 15 mins in a station.

    The other gentle man is right. There are no waiting areas and shelters with sits and information screens and loudspeakers to announce the arrival times and departures times for trains including the platforms each trains are stabled in before departure as it will help to keep passengers relaxed and provide assurances that helps with crowd safety and control. People will rush in rush hours and the stations must monitor this in camera and make periodic safety announcements especially with retards to running on the steps and escalators. These are very good problems to have in Lagos. Beautiful videos as usual. The calming effect of these views is a good way to start your day.

    • @emmanuelogundipe3328
      @emmanuelogundipe3328 9 місяців тому +2

      Are you sure these things are no available? This is a metro station not an inter state train station. You only have the station, the paid area and the platform. There is no waiting area. If you want to see a waiting area go to Ebute Meta train station. This one is a hop in and hop out, you're not meant to go stay there. There are public address systems in the station. I've seen videos where they were announcing that a passenger's item was found. The staffs use small megaphones to talk to the crowd when necessary. There are information screens and there is a timetable. Confirm before you conclude.

    • @alvanalvino
      @alvanalvino 9 місяців тому

      @@emmanuelogundipe3328 I know that they have public information systems. I have gone to the Ibadan train station to investigate it and use it during a visit to Nigeria where I flew around and also used coaches. I saw closed down airports under renovation and lack of it many Nigerian states that impeded my travels.
      Hop in and hop out train stations as you put it in the first world have sits in most of their stations, even on the platforms unless very tiny stations. Tiny London Underground stations build seats closer to the walls. Some of them even build 2 shelters outside the stations, they have cameras everywhere and information display screens with timetables for commuters.
      The people who run Nigeria’s public service needs to be given a free vacation to the West to see how things are done. They just need to learn to improve and do better that’s all. We are an extremely talented and intelligent people with a very high degree of appreciation for top quality work buried deep in our genes for over 50,000 years. We would always expect the best. We built the BenIn empire and ancient Egypt. We are builders. We built Lagos. Only the best is good enough for us and we have never been poor no matter where we call home as a collective.
      Morocco’s international airport is better designed and better run than the Nigerian one in Lagos and you can see it if you transit through it to Lagos. It is the little attention to details that matters. They enhance customer experience and creates satisfaction. They also improve the overall experience of the commuters. You could arrive 30 minutes early in a station or miss your train and not just stand there like a glorified zombie because some idiot forgot to think about it from day one.
      Even toilets should be provided at strategic train stations. I am not condemning the system. I am extremely proud of it as a Lagosian living in the diaspora. This is progress. I am just saying that anything worth doing is worth doing right. If you join a race last and money is not a problem, using a little intelligence to make sure that the Chinese gives you the top quality you pay for in the execution and completion of projects matters. We lack intelligence at the top in Nigeria because our third class brains rule us. There is a useless ramp in the Ikeja airport where an escalator and a luggage lift should have been built. People pushing their luggages through it see it flying around like projectiles. Health and safety risks. China built it. A stupid Nigerian accepted it and it was new because it wasn’t there when I flew in during the December festive season and in March. That is what our country has to deal with. And we demand top quality and the ability to listen to the public and improve. It’s done in the West. We should learn from them. Nigerians are well travelled and no one can feed them BS.

    I've been riding trains in many parts of the world, I even came out of one in Seoul some hours ago.
    There are normal seats for pregnant women, nursing mothers, people with disabilities and the elderly.
    First come, first serve, nobody pushes the other for any reason, no matter how many you are.
    No one comes to eat or drink in the train, those who came in first and want to sit can do that without stress, if they come in and decide to stand, they stand.
    As they line up in long queues, you don't hear a single noise anywhere, even if you're making or picking a call; you do that respectfully.
    The man who man this video is my witness, he's been to many nations of the world vlogging and can easily tell you how it happens else where.
