      Yes, and whenever there is a section like 5:14 she should also think of what's the main note so that she puts most of the bow weight on the "home string" going to the other one just by changing a bit the shape of the hand and the fingers.

    • @nsrayfield
      @nsrayfield 3 роки тому +5

      @@waikikit2 But, is it wrong to try a piece, even though it's a little out of your capability to perform perfectly? We need to challenge ourselves to become better, whether it's sports, music, art, etc. I have done the same; tried to play something that I was not ready for. You know what? It definitely taught me where I was lacking, and gave me more clarity on what my weak areas are. Kudos to her for attempting (and she is improving)

  • @Lucario9d
    @Lucario9d 6 років тому +604

    Just some advice, you need to play A LOT slower when starting out. It allows you to get intonation, Bowing, and fingerings down. I also recommend to play slow songs. I noticed that in your recent video that your vibrato is EXTREMELY shakey and forced. Slower songs will allow you to work on your vibrato, intonation, bowing, tone, and more. Your slow songs set your fast songs. There’s a reason why beginners start with slow songs first!

      Months late but here is my opinion: I'm with you with all this, but I think the problem here is the teacher who is making her learn a piece that she is not prepared for. She'd need a better foundation to work this piece. The teacher should be a guide in your learning and I honestly I think it was a bad idea to chose this one when there's issues with intonation, tone, bow control, rhythm, etc. It's not her fault but the teacher in my opinion

    some friendly advice: your wrist is extremely tense! a big technical aspect of this piece is string crossing which is just something you'll never be able to do with a tight wrist and bow hold. I would recommend relaxing your wrist and focusing on your bow hold more. I'm studying this piece as well at the minute and I'm a violin teacher, I know how much here is to unpack and focus on in the piece so keep practising slowly! all the best :)

    Even when practicing slowly, consider where the melodic emphasis should be. In the beginning, it's the first note in each sixteenth grouping. Those should be where you add melodic tone and structure. Keep the Gs and Ds relatively piano and light reflecting their role as the bass part. If you develop that sense while doing it slowly, then you can build it up to performance tempo without losing the musicality (i.e., phrasing). Good luck!

  • @m30owzz
    @m30owzz 5 років тому +73

    i would personally recommend using a drone note (in this case, it would be g, since the piece is in g minor) to focus your intonation into, as you could use a tad bit more work into your intonation. and also, use a metronome babe! it seems like your eighth notes turn into sixteenths and you come in too early or too late when coming out of rest. it’s a decent start, but it’s best to be a tad bit more contentious when learning a piece, especially one at this level. i know it feels great to be awesome at a piece, but the feeling of awesomeness comes later, when you’ve worked long, tedious hours:)

    • @dees3179
      @dees3179 5 років тому +5

      I second the use of the drone or some other bass line reference point of your choice to act as a tuning assistant. This top line is all supposed to spring from a solid foundation and playing it in isolation is making it harder. In context those bits where everyone else has dropped out are supposed to just float away in the stratosphere and then when it is tutti again and you are all back together perfectly it is magical. Without that support to throw you up there you don't really have anything to bounce off of.

    • @Borka642
      @Borka642 2 роки тому

    Sounding nice! Keep at it. Your progress the past few years is amazing! A little advice I found helpful from one of my teachers: When practicing fast sections at a slower tempo, be sure to use shorter bow strokes that match the speed you want to play it at. When we practice quick passages at a slow tempo, we often use too much bow, and it doesn't match the bowing we want at a quicker pace.

    Ya sé que no hablas español...pero podrías traducir esto: para sacar una obra que no puedas con tu velocidad al principio, primero tocala lo más lento que puedas y después toca más rápido de lo que es, así ya no te parecerá incómoda la velocidad real y no tendrás que estar haciendo los cambios de tiempo en cada pasaje diferente **solo es un consejo**

      “I don’t know that you don’t speak Spanish....but you could translate this: to take out a piece that you can’t (play) at the beginning, play it as slow as you can and after play it faster than what it was, so that you will not seem uncomfortable at the real spread and will not have to be doing the changes in time (tempo?) in each different passage. This is only advice

    Holy cow girl, you've been working hard and have come along way. Also, really appreciate the hard work you put into the video, especially by showing the sheet-music and the following cursor. Sometimes when I look at sheet-music like this, I wonder if someone was actually playing a trick on musicians by just making cute geometric patterns on the staffs -- just to see what would happen when played -- LOL! Anyway, that was great. Hope your love for the violin stays with you forever. Take Care...
