Take it from someone who has been trapped under a vehicle. Don't crawl under something that's only held up by a single bottle jack on the bumper in dirt. Getting killed isn't the worst thing that can happen. Getting crushed and being alive is.
I knew a guy who died that way a few years ago. He was stopped helping someone else who was on the side of the road and crawled under a vehicle that they hadn’t supported well and it fell. I’ve been much more careful since then.
Why don't you test the starter before spending money on a part you may not need. Don't you know how to jump the starter at the solenoid to test if it works?
First video i saw was the Barth and i thought this bus was actually an rv, but i like the idea of you turning it into one, when i heard that engine come to life i was excited for you brother and no you didn't waste your money getting it there. When you think about it, buying a house or building one might cost more than you actually using a vehicle like this that's already half way there, plus it's portable. You can never go wrong, you don't have to have a fancy house because that's not what makes it a home, your heart is in it and home is where the heart is brother. Man your attitude is fricking amazing, don't let anything get you down. I live in the Caribbean but i can tell you, you have the all American spirit brother. Stay up, love your content!
Blue bird were top of the line back in the day. Each Coach was built per customer specs and were not mass produced "Stick-N-Staple" Coaches!. A year ago I had an opportunity to pick up a 38'f 8v92 Detroit powered Bluebird but the seller was dead set on the price of $22g's which was high for the year model and what the Coach needed. Pretty much sat in covered storage but for a couple years, so all 8 tires were showing dry rot, and alot of the engine rubber needed replacement, the airbag suspension worked as it should but would leak down in a couple of days, the engine was regularly started while in storage but, still needed belts hoses etc... too rich for my blood. Cool Bluebird you got there, thanks for sharing!!! 👍
Thanks enjoy the videos, they do make me a little anxious re living my past vehicle disasters.Do like your laid back reactions to “Oh Crap “situations…….Cheers from Australia
find a conveyor belt supply place . buy some old belting get 3-4 foot wide USED belt about 6-8 feet long and slide them under what ever you work on outside . keeps you dry and cleaner plus it's easier to find a dropped but bolt tool and you can hose them off when they get dirty
Love all your videos im in the UK and am looking to get a coach to convert into a r.v!!! Will be watching you every step of the way. Top bloke!!!! Good luck. Bill.
I love these vehicle series. Please, please, next time you get under a jacked bus, please put blocks and chocks under the wheels! Just want that peace of mind for you! I am in awe of your mechanical skills!
Check for power on the S terminal at the starter the small wire when you have someone attempt to start. no power check starter relay right of gas pedal next to intake. there are two relays one is for the heater grid at intake for cold weather the other should be for the starter.
There are breakers at the batteries Reboot them . Like a computer. . You know like a House. I am a retired City bus driver and this is what we did to get restarted. oh Wait . Lol that was to get the Air Conditioning to Kick back on.
Hi Dustin, I don't know how much you keep up with your comments, but I would like to offer a possible solution to your "wind/audio" issues on your videos. I heard you apologize, but maybe you can end that ? ... If you use a cell phone for your videos you can take the cuff part of a white cotton tube sock and slide it over your microphone opening. This is acoustically transparent but really helps stop the wind from getting to the mic ! ...It should allow your booming manly voice to be heard just fine. If you're using a camera of some kind I don't know if this will help you. ...Keep up the good work...love yer stuff ! ...BigAl , Minneapolis, MN
Bluebird took one (it was a pusher) and made it into a Wandelodge for one of the owners daughter before the Wanderlodge division went under. It came up for sale a few years ago and went for more money than it's big brothers.
If it's got air suspension. Can't you connect an external air compressor into the system somewhere. Then shove some big jack stands in there . Safety first please . I'm in the uk and would love a bus like that . Yes RV / motor home . Great video .
lol you looked like Ricky from trailer park boys in that storage area, look i found Ricky after a night out!!!Keep up the good vids tho, you make me laugh sometimes ...love the motor home bud.
Great to see the progress being made. What I used for U joint work was a substantial vise. Being bench-mounted can be a bit of a problem so you might want to make it portable, assuming you have one :)
Thinking it takes a group 31 battery........a pair of them in parallel for amperage. 8D is the other one I remember from heavy truck maintenance. Great job getting that rig running!
You should take the bus and that RV and put everything from the RV to the bus the cabinets and all the stuff and add to it and make it your own. Would be cool
Thats a denso type starter if you would of removed the 3 x 8mm bolts on the end of the solenoid cover you would of probably found that the copper ring around the plunger and it's connections are usually burnt and need cleaning it can usually done with a file clean it up to make a good connection if it's really bad you can get a kit containing a new plunger and new copper terminals instead if replacing your starter
Hi mate thanks for this so when are you sending me the motor home? Haha Good stuff It's going to be nice to see this one decked out I love to watch these mate. You and your family and friends who help you keep safe always. Jeremy Downunder
I would never run an engine without a belt on it's water pump! That twelve Volt starter motor draws up to 2,000. Amperes starting, the old battery was mush. I think you have an emergency starter motor already. Ron W4BIN
@ Life of Lind: Great work. Going step by step knocking out a mental checklist. I have to thank you for minimal cussing and tantrums on camera. I had asked you what brands you felt were worth looking for and you said NUWA and Beaver. Only Beaver I can find is Monico Beavers is that what you mean? What models of diesel pusher did NUWA have? Thanks can't wait to see how you make the superlodge. (yes wonderlodge, but yours will be a bit newer and better built I am thinking I have faith)
Alternator was turning, so it had a belt. Most likely also not an electric fan, as it has no motor on the back, so visco clutch is the most likely option.
@@makoshark40 And that clutch is called a visco clutch. Honestly, i'm amazed that many people still aren't familiar with them, even though the europeans have been using them for over 50 years now.
@@unmountablebootvolume yeah didnt know the name but yeah there mostly common on CMV style engines cause there so god damn loud so people who never dealt with busses semi truck excavators etc etc typically don't know they are a thing hell i didn't know how they worked exactly till i became a truck driver older style pickups tend to have them but like before 2000s and well most people on UA-cam aren't well over there 20s to know about them in that regard either or was to young to pay attention at that time cause lets face it 2004 is considered an old as fuck car now days (yet ive never owned anything newer then 2000s personally)
@@makoshark40 True, but they don't need to be loud. Well made viscos just click like an A/C compressor clutch. The thing that made them become so rare is that most manufacturers turned the engines by 90°, making it damn near impossible to have a front-facing water pump to install a visco clutch on. But the nice thing about them is that the only common problems with them is the bearings locking up, causing the fan to run whenever the engine does, or the entire clutch flying apart, launching the fan into the radiator and making some very expensive noises. I like visco clutches because they are so simple. No crappy chinese electric motor to catch fire, no fuse to blow, no tasty-to-mice wires to get chewed and send 12v into a 5v ECU data line, and no ECU to crash and run the fan until the battery is dead.
17:47 Is that an electric radiator cooling fan or are you missing the belt? I know nothing about Cummins! Good to see it running, now time to test that Transmission out.
When the engine started the fan was not turning, you might want to check that before letting it get hot. The Bus Grease Monkey has some good vids on fixing air brake systems. If it was a transit bus it might have a real low gear in the rear end, engine will be screaming at highway speeds.
I work for Navistar, that ignition switch looks the same in the back as the ones that were used in the older trucks, you can pick one up for like $25-$30 bucks.

I think some one sabotaged that bus at the auction. Sweet that you didn't have to put a bunch or money and time into it... Also Hoovies Garage would probably way way overpay you for your turbo k car wagon.

If you had a air compressor you can air up the bags up instead of jacking the bus up then put blocks under it that way it be safer
