- Did you know Anson used to be a Dungeon Master? In this episode Branan lures Anson into a surprise reunion with his old campaign players under the pretext of interviewing Nathan Stewart of Wizards of the Coast about his role as advisor on the movie Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Nathan does eventually join the conversation, it's like two episodes in one!
I have to say as a 65 year old woman who played D&D back in the late 70s and early 80s (before I had kids) the movie was awesome! Brought back tons of memories. Then listening to you guys today had me cracking up. It’s changed so much over the years, but we were always proud to play DND, played with a bunch of nerds, who worked on the space, shuttle main engine, etc. There were only two women in our group, because well we were women. I agree with Anson , because I only played first edition. And you used your actual imagination. To feels question about imagination, look around you now, so many people no longer read books, without a book you can’t use your imagination. There are groups where I live, but I don’t like the new editions. Gary Gygax was my hero. You could only take a puff if you rolled a certain number. It kept us more focused for a while anyway. But the alcohol was always free flowing. Thank you all so much for this reminder of my youth. And if you set up when you’re 70, I’ll be 85 and be happy to join you.!❤

Hey :) Nice podcast, thanks for that! I think D&D was the first Pen and Paper we played in 1983. Opened a whole new world for me. I always was a very imaginative person and before 1983 I "just" was into reading and sports, what gave me a world to retread. The grown ups then always told me to get a grip and be "normal". The D&D group met nearly every weekend and we had a blast of a time. With time we tried other games like Shadowrun, Werewolf and Vampire and so on. Once we played Vampire and my char got life points removed when I lit a cigarette in real life. Nearly killed my char at one point lol. We never played with maps either, except for the map we had drawn our selfs as we went along in the game. Even now we sometimes find the time to play a campaign. Not often but it is a lot of fun. Have to admit to never seen the movie. And for all the parents out there who thinks these games are dangerous or stupid, it gives your kids the possibility to use their imagination. It's a good thing ;) Take care guys and I hope you find the time to come together again and just have a good time, enjoy :) The world is serious enough, sometimes you have to have some fun.
Holy crap. I just realized i'm just under a month older than Anson.
I loved this, as a player from the 80's it brought back a ton of great memories from playing with a big stash of oreos, mt dew, and grease-o's ( greasy chips that came in a square box). As a former player I loved the movie and am a big Anson fan. This was great!
I'm a 42 year old who just started playing an actual campaign this year. Phil's story is familiar... 😂
I haven't played the game since 1980 (life got busy) but it sure was fun to hear your D&D buddies talk about it. The movie is very entertaining and I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel or two in the future.
Guys you gotta get together again,the adventure awaits hehehe,so awesome to listening to you guys,I understand what Anson means it is different from person to person in how you imagining things when there is no visual aid.

Could be cool to see a serie made to play out the idea of creating characters and people playing d&d but you follow both those that plays it but also the characters in the adventure,so both real life and fantasy worlds mix
